The Other Guys

As Adrian Gonzalez heats up and looks very much worth the coin the Sox have thrown his way, we thought we’d take a look at the two key pieces of the trade going the other direction.

Casey Kelly, the supposed centerpiece pitching prospect, is middling along in AA in the Texas League.

But check out Anthony Rizzo, who is tearing it up in AAA. Through 30 games in Tucson he’s hitting .340/10/43 with a 1.206 OPS! Astounding numbers from the 21 year old. My memory from days playing rotisserie baseball is that the PCL has a reputation as a hitters’ league, but still, Rizzo is going nuts. Keep your eyes on this kid – if he keeps it up he’ll be headed to Petco where he can play for a few years, have his stats depressed, and get traded east for yet more blue chippers.
