  • That’s funny.
No Red Sox fan I’m aware of calls the team the ‘Bosox’ in conversation, however.

  • Yeah, I just call them the Sox. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not talking about the White Sox.

  • This cartoon is one of many indications that the Sox have indeed become the Yanks when it comes to the aggrivation factor they generate among fans of other teams. Of course, that is what comes with winning a lot so I’m not 100% pleased with the development.

  • Welcome to the club Sox fans…it’s kinda fun being hated by all, but it gets old fast.

  • Well, if any significant portion of Sox fans are also Pats fans, then they likely have a pretty good handle on being hated already.

  • I’m a Cowboys fan, so I know all about that.

  • Guilty as charged. I try to root politely when I’m at the Coliseum, at least (and I always cheer for the A’s when their lineup is announced)…

  • Jackie –
I try to go to at least one A’s game against the Yankees so I can cheer loudly for the home team. I may find some day that I need that kind of karmic balance.

  • RBF – I think of the A’s as my secondary team; we go to a couple non-Sox games every year and I really do have an affection for Oakland. Besides, I’m always rooting for them to make the playoffs so I have a chance at seeing a Sox ALDS or ALCS out here.

  • z118’s right – actually, I honestly don’t even NOTICE the Sox hatred after living through the Patriots’ season. Spygate + 16-0 created such a massive maelstrom of virulent hatred for the Patriots and Patriots fans that the “grumble grumble Red Sox are the new Yankees” stuff just doesn’t register with me as “hate”. I’m actually so burnt out on football after living through the past season (and That Goddamn Superbowl) that I’ve been actively avoiding football articles since the Super Bowl and am honestly not sure if I’ll be ready to watch again when the new season starts. Baseball fandom is relaxing, compared to that.
Jackie: I root for Red Sox/Angels ALDS matchups so I can go to them. I went to Game 3 last year and it was amazing, despite the horrific sunburn I got.

  • Micah – I’m with you, the Pats last season was so stress filled, so the focus of anger and hate, and ended so catastrophically that I’m not sure I’ll be ready for football again at all by the time fall rolls around. Baseball is a calming joy by comparison.
