The Jeter Meter: Automatic Out Edition?

You see the post title.  You think "oh god, not another one of those inanely saccharine love letters from our insane, near-stalker-grade resident Yankees fan to his overpaid, overly promiscuous idol".  And you know what? For the first time in this site’s history, you’d be right!  This time, it’s still all about the Captain, but it ain’t all good.  This time (and not like the time with Ms. Alba) it’s about his inability to finish the job.  Today, for the eighth time this year alone, he ended a game with the tying run in scoring position. Not exactly the stuff of legends, eh?

  • Nevermind that he homered in this game. Or that “Captain Clutch” (as I believe the Post called him on its back page) came through with a late-inning, bases-loaded single to put the Yanks ahead of the Rays earlier this week. And I think we all know he’s had his share of key hits. You can’t win ’em all.

  • It would seem that the fact that we’ve noticed how often DJ has come up short this year sort of proves how he has always been clutch before. Could be he’s reverting to the mean in these situations this year, or could just be a year where he’s gonna be off, an aberration if you will. Only time will tell.

  • The Sox lose 12 to 3, and have lost 6 of their last 11, and SF lashes out at one of the heroes and all round decent Joes of America. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
SF, maybe you should worry about your own captain, who’s hitting .122 with 3 rbis in the month of September. We love our captain.

  • I love our Captain too. That’s why I’m not attacking him.
(But he has sucked at the plate lately, no doubt.)

  • I’ll attack Boomer: his former Yankee status allows Yankee fans special rights. After what he did to the Yankees, I would love to see the guy fail this month.
    He’s a schmuck.

He’s a schmuck. And it would be a little pay back for Embree, even though Embree is probably better than the LHs who preceded him.
Bellhorn, meanwhile, has played little, has a terrible BA and a very good OBP in a small sample. He allowed them to rest A-Rod and Cano (apparently Womack is never playing 2nd base again for the Yankees), and I would guess would make the post-season roster. If there is one.
Today’s Globe blog has a different view on Bellhorn.

  • Jeez, talk about lashing out.

    SF September 19, 2005, 1:45 pm
  • At Boomer, yes. Captain Jeter was never Red Sock, while Boomer was a Yankee jerk.

  • John-YF:
You’re about three weeks away from sending me ten dollars. And, we’re all still waiting for Boomer’s back to leave him on the DL for an extended amount of time like you have said all year.
PS – Bellhorn is terrible. End of conversation. No arguments and no discussion. He’s just terrible, and Boston should send a bundle of cash to NY as a thank you. No matter who’s paying the bulk of his salary, it’s a bargain.

  • Kay and Kenny Key say my friend Boomer has been taken out in the 3rd. What’s up?

    john yf September 19, 2005, 8:41 pm
  • Brad, I guess you’re upset that your guys are crumbling.

    john yf September 19, 2005, 8:43 pm
  • I remember something else you said, Brad. If your team loses to the Devil Rays, it means they s*ck.

    john yf September 19, 2005, 8:46 pm
  • Uh oh – let me explain – I don’t think the Sox suck. I just react to Brad’s wild Yankee statements. And I remember his comment about how the Yankees can’t be good if they lose to the Rays.

  • Bubba Crosby comes up big. Now let’s hope the Rays hold off the Sox. What happened to Wells by the way?

    Nick September 19, 2005, 10:19 pm
  • Re Boomer, Brad. I predicted here that A-Rod would have a great season, and earlier this month that the Yankees should give Bubba a chance. With his walk-off home run he’s hitting .379 in September. I wish Joe had played him last night.
Don’t give up on Boomer being a schmuck yet.
    D-Rays 8 Red Sox w/o Ortiz 3 Ortiz 4
    White Sox 5 Indians 4 ?
Teams should be walking, or plunking, Ortiz.

  • what wild Yankee statements? I was simply reminding you of YOUR wild statement. I made absolutely no statement about the Yankees in my post. I believe the bet was based around the future employment of one Brian Cashman, no?
Also, when a team loses to the Rays, that usually means that they did stink the joint up, but I don’t need to remind you of that John. Just like I said it’s not acceptable for the Sox to lose to the Jays or the O’s, it’s equally as bad to lose to the Rays.
Also, in every game Ortiz has been plunked, minus one, he’s homered later in the game, so if teams want to piss him off, please be our guest.
PS John, one thing you are right about : I am upset. I’m upset when Mark Hendrickson pitches a great game. I’m upset when our captain is in such a funk. I’m upset that Johnny seems to have forgotten how to catch. I’m upset that Edgar can’t catch a cold this year to back up the golden gloves on his mantle. But, am I upset that the standings are where they are? Nope. I still firmly believe that the Sox are going to win the East, but only in the last series against the Yanks.
The ten dollars you are STILL going to owe me is pretty sweet too.

  • brad,
what wild statemen? the one about cashman
and your wild statement about the Yankees’ record against the Devil Rays showing the Yankees are a bad team
of course that was before the Yankees swept them, something the Sox are apparently not good enough to do
(yes, I know that’s a wild statement — it’s in response to yours)
