The Lost Weekend

Well, it can’t get any worse right? Okay, well, maybe it can: Hudson, Mulder, and Zito are up next. But at least there’s a day off. And while The Boss might suggest more BP, I say fuck it, now’s the time for a big night out on the town—chill with a supermodel, down a little Cristal, reject a Hilton sister, get the confidence back up. So if you’re reading this Derek, Bernie, A-Rod, and Jason, consider it an invitation. Tomorrow night. Pangaea. Be there around 2, when things start to groove. First round’s on me.

  • It will likely get worse before it gets better but considering the Yanks are now the worst fielding team in the majors, the second worst batting, and in the middle of the pack pitching, it’s fortunate we’re not behind by 8 games. The relaxation remedy is a drunken game of wiffle in Jeter’s living room at Trump World Tower.

  • Ha! Rumors reported on the Boston Globe website referencing a story in San Francisco saying a Hudson for Giambi deal has been proposed by the Yankees. My guess is that Billy Beane laughed so hard he pulled a muscle in his side. At this point, that trade would even be disallowed in EA Sports’ Playstation2 Baseball, triggering the “lopsided deal” protection code that keeps humans from trading virtual driftwood for the virtual Barry Bonds in the middle of a saved season (video game nuts will understand what I mean).
    Paging Bowie Kuhn…

  • Cashman denied this rumor in today’s Post: “I have had no trade discussions with anybody.” Anyway, you’d figure it would be Mulder, whose Oakland term expires soonest (?) that would ostensibly be the bait.

  • I would hope Cashman would deny it, not just because confirming it to the press would be remarkably stupid, but because if he did offer Giambi for Hudson he looks like a moron – who does he think Beane is? So it’s in his interest to deny it, all the way around. The only thing stupider would be if Beane made that deal. My guess is Rube Durazo at 1/8th the price of Giambi is sabermetrically better than Giambi as a full-time DH and no Mulder. Plus they may be fighting the Yankees for the Wild Card spot. ;)
Personally, I totally buy the denial of an offer by Cashman – my guess is George called Billy, collect.
