The One True Ace: Yanks-Tigers Gamer III

Anyone else notice that the only one pitching like a true ace for either the Yanks or Sox is Mike Mussina? Curt Schilling’s declined since the 133 pitch ego-stroking game; Josh Beckett sometimes plays the game the right way, and sometimes he has to face Vernon Wells; and we all know about Randy’s issues. That leaves us with Mr. Mussina. He hasn’t faltered yet, and he’s on the mound for our beloved squad tonight. The Yanks are in good hands as they go for 3 in a row against the mighty Tigers. This is your chance to root them on…

  • start of the game is being delayed due to rain. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to last. Anyone know anything?
also, Cairo bats second for some inexplicable reason in place of the injured Jeter. Why bat Cairo 2nd?

  • Rain delays suck. And there’s no Sox thread to troll in :-/

  • Cairo second? Ummm…cause Joe Torre is IN LOVe with him–that’s my guess.

  • The rain is a message from god. Thou shalt not bat Cairo in the 2 slot.

    Nick-YF May 31, 2006, 8:53 pm
  • walein, is the game on TV in SF?

    Nick-YF May 31, 2006, 8:54 pm
  • Hmm. Moose doesn’t seem quite as sharp tonight. Looks like he’s getting squeezed by the ump, too.

    yankeemonkey May 31, 2006, 9:21 pm
  • And just as I type it, he rings up Granderson looking. Go Moose!

    yankeemonkey May 31, 2006, 9:22 pm
  • No run support for Moose again tonight. Typical.

    yankeemonkey May 31, 2006, 9:27 pm
  • C’mon Melky!

    walein May 31, 2006, 9:41 pm

  • My lady is from Detroit. We just finished watching the Pistons/Heat, so she is in a great mood, and the fact that her Tigers are in a tight spot means I am not in trouble. Great game from Moose.

  • Miguel Cairo with 11 opportunities tonight, no errors.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2006, 10:58 pm
  • Phillips has a tough play on a throw from ARod that he short-hopped, E-5.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2006, 11:00 pm
  • Pudge tips one weakly to Cano for the second out. Ordonez comes up as the last out.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2006, 11:01 pm
  • Arod’s error gives up the unearned run as Magglio hits a slow single to left. CRAP!!!

    attackgerbil May 31, 2006, 11:02 pm
  • Should have been a shutout.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2006, 11:03 pm
  • Moose against Guillen: two balls, then a strike looking. Close pitch low for a ball to make it 3-1. 3-1 fouled off Posada’s mask. Count full to Guillen. Payoff: fouled away. Let’s do it again. Strike out swinging on a breaking pitch. Mussina with the complete game.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2006, 11:05 pm
  • Cairo did a great job at short tonight. So impressive, involved in more than a third of the outs tonight.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2006, 11:07 pm
  • AG: did you catch Moose yelling at Joe from the mound? That was classic.

    yankeemonkey May 31, 2006, 11:11 pm
  • YM: I have to confess I missed most of the game as my lady is from Detroit, and we watched the Pistons/Heat game for most of the night. I only was able to catch up with the tail of the game. Great game from Moose from what I read.

    attackgerbil May 31, 2006, 11:35 pm
  • He was fantastic. Joe was coming out of the dugout to take him out and he screamed “No! Stay there!”. You could read his lips. Joe just shrugged and smirked. Very amusing. Rare to see that kind of fire from Moose.
