The Yankees Love Their Mommies

Perfect gifts from Alex, Tino, Jorge, Derek, Gary, Zilla, and even Kevin—he always was a difficult child. Thank you all for another lovely afternoon. (And a shout-out to the A’s for cooperating so nicely.)

PS: We especially liked the outfield defense—way to make things look fun out there!

  • I think Womack’s been fine in left. No complaints about his defense. I’m sure he’s still the weakest hitting left fielder in the history of the universe.
I knew Kevin Brown, as much as I hate him, had not regressed this far below replacement level this quickly. He looked pretty good today. Unlike last start against Tampa, the ground balls he was getting weren’t bullets.
Hopefully this will kick-start him, and with Moose’s shutout we can get a nice stretch of wins going.

  • I wouldn’t get too excited, Clay. While it’s hard to believe the Yanks are as bad as their record, it seems fairly clear that Woemack and Cano (and Giambi) in the same lineup is a massive recipe for trouble—and not for opposing pitchers. And Brown was hardly dominant—against a dreadful hitting team.

  • Should be okay with another dreadful hitting team coming to town next in the Mariners.

  • I say we wait and see how Brown does against a team like Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, LA, or Minnesota. THEN we’ll talk.
