Think Different: Yanks-Royals Gamer II

Seeing Jeter and Posada both out of the lineup is something we only expect in pre-season or inconsequential games at the end of the season, but today is not unique. Of Yankee lineups in 2007, there were three times both Jeter and Posada did not appear in the starting lineup together. Those dates were:

June 7th (W, CWS)
August 26th (L, DET)
September 27th (W, TBR)

So it’s not all horrible news. Shut.. UP.. stomach! Except that Morgan Ensberg just got put on the DL due to an ankle injury. Alberto Gonzalez gets the start at short. Molina has been completely clad in precautionary bubble wrap. Here’s hoping Giambi’s feels as fair as Farragut. Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead! In other optimistic news, Ian Kennedy’s debut was not entirely dismal: he didn’t get struck bodily by any of the balls zipping past him off of the Rays’ hitters’ bats when he wasn’t walking them. He’s on the mound while the Royals send Zack Greinke, who fared far better in his opener, allowing six hits and one run while walking two in seven innings against the Tigers.

The funky lineup follows.. comment away.

  • Uh huh, “ankle injury.”

  • Abraham reports Ensberg’s ankle has been miraculously cured:
UPDATE, 7:46 p.m.: Morgan Ensberg survived. Shelley Duncan was just optioned to Triple-A Scranton. Why they wait to 15 minutes before the game to reveal that, I have no idea. But that’s the move.

  • Lugo makes it exciting, but Ump says they got him.
Bad call, Magglio beat the throw.

  • ARRRGH! I need to stop doing that!

  • Updates coming fast and furious:
Bruney is starting instead of Kennedy, for reasons unknown.

    yankeemonkey April 9, 2008, 8:18 pm
  • Pete Abe says it’s an injury (he’s guessing), but I’ve heard that the YES network is reporting that rain is coming and they don’t want to waste Kennedy, so Bruney is starting.

  • Those fragile Yankees. IPK sidelined by rain!
Meanwhile, a dp for Cano kills the first for the Yanks.
Grudzielanek almost takes Bruney deep w/ 1 out in the 2nd. Yipes.

  • And the skies open up. Alex grounds out. Not sure why they’re letting this go on….

  • Clearly Girardi is a genius. It’s coming down cats and dogs, looks like.

    yankeemonkey April 9, 2008, 8:28 pm
  • Yanks make two quick outs….SLOW DOWN.

    YF April 9, 2008, 8:29 pm
  • Major props to Joe G for not tossing IPK out there in this crap. Is he gonna protect the kids? Thus far, yes.

    YF April 9, 2008, 8:30 pm
  • Wasn’t Bruney thought of in Joba-ian terms back when he was a rookie?

    J (yf) April 9, 2008, 8:34 pm
  • Butler RIPS one. Woof. 2b.

    YF April 9, 2008, 8:35 pm
  • Bruney hi heat Ks gload. Interesting to hear Coney talk about putting away a hitter….

    YF April 9, 2008, 8:36 pm
  • Excuse me. Gordon Kd. Gload at the dish.

    YF April 9, 2008, 8:36 pm
  • Bruney! Slider Ks Gload. Great pitch.

    YF April 9, 2008, 8:39 pm
  • Bruney strikes out the side. Sweet Jesus.

    yankeemonkey April 9, 2008, 8:43 pm
  • Who needs IPK? Bruney Ks the side.

    YF April 9, 2008, 8:43 pm
  • Who needs Posada? Molina doubles for the third time this season.

    AndrewYF April 9, 2008, 8:46 pm
  • And he’s stranded.
On comes Traber. Girardi doing his best to spread out the bullpen innings thus far.

    YF April 9, 2008, 9:01 pm
  • Buck belts one. As much as we like to make fun of Farns, this one I’ll let pass..

    Lar April 9, 2008, 9:35 pm
  • Gath is so annoying. If it wasn’t for the fact that I’m down 6 SB’s in my daily league, I would pick him up..

    Lar April 9, 2008, 9:41 pm
  • Obviously a bad move here, as Farns is handing out these passes by the dozen..

    Lar April 9, 2008, 9:43 pm
  • 2 walk, 2 hits, and only 2 runs. If the Yanks are still as dangerous as people think they are, they better start hitting..

    Lar April 9, 2008, 9:46 pm
  • I thought yesterday’s game was frustrating, but tonight might take the cake. And now they’ll have to burn Ian anyway.

    yankeemonkey April 9, 2008, 9:53 pm
  • I don’t get what’s going on. Why is Ian pitching?

    Lar April 9, 2008, 10:03 pm
  • I don’t get what’s going on with this team, I really don’t.

    yankeemonkey April 9, 2008, 11:04 pm
  • I don’t know if I am more annoy by this team that can’t score or last year’s whose can’t pitch.
All things considering, that wasn’t a bad outing for the Yanks pitching. Unforunately, the hitting wasn’t there at all..

    Lar April 10, 2008, 12:24 am
  • I sure hope the offense picks up this weekend. Otherwise it’ll be No Country for Old Men in the Red Sox Nation.
