Tired Of Interleague? Interweb!

By now, you probably have already seen the video of a spectacular grab a ballgirl makes at a minor league game in Fresno. But just in case:

Yes, it is too good to be true. It’s actually a clever viral marketing ad for Gatorade that has been zooming around the net at breakneck pace. Here are the two real catches made by ballgirl Lindsey Ferris at an Yanks-Ms game in 1996 that served as inspiration for the ad.

Women flashing leather. That is appealing on so many levels.

  • Now I know why girls aren’t playing baseball: the guys are all afraid they’ll be shown up.
Seriously, though, we’ve got a switch pitcher in the Yankees organization, which I never thought I’d really see, so it’s probably about time for a few female players. Anybody who’s watched women’s college softball has seen some real athletes out there.

  • Sorry, for some STUPID, INEXPLICABLE reason, the video of Lindsey Ferris has been pulled down. I’ll try and find it elsewhere and update.

  • In the video that got pulled (WHY??) Lindsey sprints off her chair by the tarp up the 1B line and snags a Griffey smoker in foul territory. Then she bounds off her chair but overruns a liner that she snags behind the back. Two _sweet_ grabs.

  • I don’t understand why she is down there making that catch in the first place. It was pretty close to fair territory, so it shouldn’t have been messed with.
Obviously, it was a ridiculous catch that will never be reproduced, but wtf?
Do they try to reuse foul balls in the minor leagues, or should she have given it to a fan?
