Title Bout(s): Championship Series(es) Game Thread

I’m stoked for the ALCS. Two teams who last won it all in the 80’s are going to have a tilt to see who gets a shot at the big one. Can’t say I’m as excited for the NLCS, where two teams who have won the last four (!) NL championships are playing to see if they can match the Sox for 21st century titles. It’s just a bit dull seeing the same damn teams again. So it’ll be new and exciting versus done to death in the World Series. But which teams? I’m excited to see it play out. Pulling for the Royals, but fairly certain the Orioles are going to mash them. Whatever, I’ll root for the dag-blasted AL East foes if they make it to the Series…I think. Definitely against the Cards.

Playoff games, especially these final three best-of-seven series(es), are the best kind of baseball. Let’s enjoy seeing the excellent and the supremely lucky try their luck and skill again for high stakes. Comment away.

  • What an intense first ALCS game. Royals blew a 4-run lead, didn’t score in Top9 after loading the bases with none out. Win on the strength of two 10th-inning homers, outlast the Orioles.

This has really been a delightful postseason for the baseball itself, disregarding team allegiance.

  • So right Devine. This is some entertaining baseball with great defense, base running, in-game strategizing, and pretty much everything else. Happy for showalter, rooting for KC, which is on some kind of streak…

  • These games, IH…the ALCS continues to be high-octane and the relatively “boring” NLCS game was one where the other team was in striking distance all night while the other team’s pitcher just smothered them. I’m thankful baseball saw fit to give us an entertaining (thus far) postseason if not a Yanks/Sox one.

  • *first “other” should be “losing”

  • Seeing the absolute meltdown of previously impervious starters and bullpen in this year’s post-season keeps bringing me back to the absurd coolness under pressure of Mariano. Yes, I am living in the past.

Enjoyed watching the last few innings of giants-cards, and am just loving the orioles-royals series. I know all the sabermetrically gifted among us would dispute the notion of teams “getting hot”, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how these royals are playing this well across the board right now. I expect the O’s to break through at some point, but time is running out quickly on them. This first game in KC should be raucous. And great to see Old man clutch Ibanez over there in he KC dugout. If he gets a shot at yet more late-inning post-season heroics vs. the O’s and comes through, he may never be allowed to enter Baltimore again.

  • Yep, the games in this postseason continue to be super-suspenseful/intense. I have severe doubts about the Royals, but 6 playoff wins in a row is nothing to sneeze at.

  • Another pair of superb 1-run games including a walk-off error, and both teams I’m rooting for leading their respective series. Kansas City with 7 playoff wins in a row!

  • The Royals can do no wrong right now. The quote from the O’so tonight “it’seems hard to take advantage of their mistakes when they aren’the making any” says it all. It has to be a helpless feeling to go up against these guys right now.

  • I hope the Royals sweep the Giants (thereby running the table in the playoffs), but it seems unlikely. Then again, so is everything else the Royals have accomplished so far.
