To the Victors…

Francona chose Alan Trammell (Detroit) and Ken Macha (Oakland) as coaches, and he’ll be joined by his own coaching staff — bench coach Brad Mills, pitching coach Dave Wallace, hitting coach Ron Jackson, bullpen coach Bill Haselman, and base coaches Dale Sveum and Lynn Jones .

Well, it used to be fun to crap on Joe Torre for inviting along the Yankee marginalia back in the day, but it looks like the Sox will have at least 7 representatives at the All-Star game, and the players haven’t even been named yet.   Terry’s prerogative, I suppose.   In fact, were Francona not automatically heading to the game, I would have thought it a shame for him not to have been named to the team himself — he’s done a fantastic job to this point, one of the best in either league.  He’s deftly managed a team that is missing it’s most important pitcher and spent the better part of April and May hurting pretty badly.  Well done, Terry.

(on a side note, it should be really fun to see Dale Sveum wave Vlad into a couple of inning-ending collisions at home plate.)

  • Big props to Terry and congrats to the Sox on a sweep of the previously red-hot Indians. Arroyo, Miller and Wells all seem to be on the upswing, Manny and Ortiz are back to their bash brothers routine, and Damon and Varitek continue to hit and hit and hit. You know a team is clicking when a tough road win is brought to you courtesy of Renteria, Olerud and Payton. Me likey our second half prospects.

  • If Francona wanted some serious home-plate fireworks, he should have invited Wendell Kim along as an honored BoSox alum. Dude was a human windmill.
