To Yank or Not to Yank

Now that Theo’s back, he might want to add this neat-o program to his—and Francona’s—bag of tricks. The Baseball Visualization Tool is a graphical interface that helps determine when it’s appropriate to pull a pitcher. It looks convincing, and it’s certainly beautiful. Thankfully, Grady didn’t have a copy back in ’03.

    But I could be wrong and the multiple homerun game for Giambi would have ended the same way – but probably not.
