Travels with Charley

And John Sterling claims another victim.  Who’s the next brave soul to have his announcing chops battered by sitting too close to the Yankees’ resident windbag?

(actually, Mike Kay, who I don’t mind, got out before he was rendered unlistenable)

  • This Sox fan in exile in L.A. is happy to see shameless homer Ross Porter being replaced with…uhh, shameless homer Charlie Steiner. Whenever I’m in New York I somewhat enjoy listening to Steiner, but I have a suspicion it’s only because he’s sitting next to Sterling and is bound to sound great in comparison.
Here’s hoping the wizards at ILM are close to cracking that CGI Vin Scully. I can’t imagine sitting on the 405 for six hours without him.

  • Scully is a wonder – his voice as identifiable as any. I remember tuning in to my AM radio under the bedsheets as a kid and bringing in KMOX from St. Louis, all the way across the night sky to Boston. So my early memories are tinged with one of Scully’s equals, Jack Buck. The new guard has some impossibly big shoes to fill and I certainly understand MJL’s feelings for Scully.
