Unfortunate Moments in Shortstop History

Chad Finn rounds up two of the more … interesting? disturbing? … SI photo shoots of the heady 1995-2002 big-time shortstop craze. Seems appropriate, given the recent looks back at Nomar v. Jeter. Well, maybe not appropriate

  • Guy in the upper right of the 2nd picture kind of looks like Joe Dimaggio.

  • I think that’s Magglio Ordonez?
Either that or Ordonez is on the left, and that’s Rey Sanchez.

  • Do you mean Rey Ordonez?
    Also, A-Rod looks positively scrawny.

  • The guy in the top-right corner looks creepy as hell.

I remember getting that SI, isn’t that Nomar cover a great example of the SI curse?…I believe that mag came out in 2001–here are the stats:

  • That Nomar cover was awful the day it was conceived. On the other hand, Nomar can be thankful for the rest of his life that he wasn’t in that other spread.
