Visions of the Glue Factory

Anyone else out there keeping their fingers crossed that Bellamy Road tosses his jockey (to safety, of course) at the final turn, finishing the Derby like Rivera finishes the Red Sox?  The potential fireworks are almost incomprehensible.

Oh, to dream!

  • A vision we’d prefer: A slow start, but then a charge from 7,5 lenths back to take the crown by a nose.

  • Someone call the Babe and tell him to stop cursing that big jerk Bonds for awhile we need a little help.

  • The question as a yf is do I really want Bellamy Road to win. If Big Stein wins, he’s likely euphoric enough to not do anything to shake up the Yanks (at least as long as the Triple Crown has his attention). The way things have been going, this may be a bad thing, b/c obviously, some sort of change is warranted (and not change of the Womack to LF, Cano to 2B variety). On the other hand, if BR pulls up gimpy at the first turn or starts running clockwise or jumping fences or something, then BS is likely to blow whatever gaskets he has left to blow and the AP photos from those other threads might become reality. Nobody wants to see Joe or Mel headless, but would some kind of serious shakeup help the Yanks out of this funk? I don’t know. I guess there isn’t much in the way of a feasible, George-ordered shakeup that would be an obvious help…is there?

  • Yes, Spidey, that might just be the problem: the funk is not a funk: the team may just suck. The Yankees are weak hitting at 2nd, left/center, 1st, and dh. That’s a lot to overcome given bad defense, only 1 reliable starter, three others who are, by degrees marginal, and poor middle relief.
