Viva Italia!: Sox Battle III

Nick and the other Yanks fans can have their wussy French. We’ll take our testosterone-laden Italians.

Today’s Red Sox game might have a lower score than the World Cup final — yet again, we will be treated to a magnificent pitchers’ duel (on paper anyway) — ageless wonder Curt Schilling takes on Jose Contreras, who’s needed every bit of offensive support lately to keep his unbeaten streak alive. I have to help the wife pick out an outfit for an job interview, so I won’t be around much. But someone should comment anyway.

Go Italy Sox!

    Rob July 9, 2006, 2:12 pm
  • Sox up on mr Clutch’s RBI

    Rob July 9, 2006, 2:17 pm
  • Sox lead 1-0 heading to the bottom of the 1st.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 2:23 pm
  • Contreras has thrown 31 pitches in 1.1 innings. Possibly a good sign of him making an early exit.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 2:30 pm
  • TB has cut the Yanks lead to 5-3

    Rob July 9, 2006, 2:56 pm
  • Contreras has thrown 66 pitches through 3

    Rob July 9, 2006, 2:57 pm
  • As long as we keep working the pitch count he should be gone soon.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 2:57 pm
  • Lowell homeers to make it 2-0 Sox!!!!!!

    Anonymous July 9, 2006, 3:14 pm
  • Contreras just walked Crisp for the second time today….pitch count at 81.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:15 pm
  • Sox up 3-0 on Loretta getting pegged and forcing home a run.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:26 pm
  • White Sox now down 3-1 on Iguchi’s homerun.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:38 pm
  • TB and Yanks now tied up at 5

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:44 pm
  • Up to this point Contreras and Schilling have pitched similar games, the main difference though is that Contreras has given up 5 walks.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:45 pm
  • Pitch counts through 5 Innings
    Schilling: 67
    Contreras: 104

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:48 pm
  • Lowell gets on to lead off the 6th on “an infield single to the catcher.”

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:49 pm
  • TB has taken a 6-5 lead over the Yanks.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:51 pm
  • Contreras has shown he has not escaped his Red Sox nightmares. This is definately not the pitcher who has won all of these games (17?) straight without a loss.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 3:55 pm
  • Schilling in a little trouble here in the bottom of the 6th…1st and 2nd, 1 out and Thome at the plate.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:00 pm
  • Thome connects on the 1st pitch for an RBI…runners at 1st and 3rd. Sox up 3-2

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:01 pm
  • Konerko flies out to left. 2 Down……

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:04 pm
  • Not for nothing, and it’s pretty unconventional, but with only one out, and the idiot behind the plate, I think Harris should take his chance with taking third in this at bat. This guys arm is not the most accurate around, and Willie has great speed.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 4:21 pm
  • ALRIGHTY…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 4:28 pm
  • Not sure if this is the best time for Hansen…but I guess the fire is always going to be hot no matter who he’s facing…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 4:31 pm
  • As I finish typing that, they are walking him.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:32 pm
  • It’s clearly been a bad day to be either two of the best young pitchers in the game..

    Brad July 9, 2006, 4:34 pm
  • Here comes Lopez to face Thome. I am going to assume that Hansen is going to follow him to face the next two.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:39 pm
  • Delcarmen with two terrific innings.

    Quo July 9, 2006, 4:43 pm
  • I’m back…Cotts almost blew it up for the Sox. Now Jenks is in after Riske bailed Cotts out.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:46 pm
  • GD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:49 pm
  • Here comes Paps!!!!

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:50 pm
  • Thome is battling hard

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:54 pm
  • Thome down swinging….2 to go!

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:55 pm
  • Konerko flies out to center…1 to go!

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:57 pm
  • Damn…Dye with a homer to left field to tie the game. Paps blows the save!

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:58 pm
  • Perhaps I cursed this with counting down outs.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 4:59 pm
  • Hardly Papelbon’s best stuff to him, but Dye is off the hook as of late. Hard for anyone to get him out this series it seems.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:06 pm
  • Lowell, Crisp and Gonzo to lead off the 11th. jenks still pitching.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:18 pm
  • Lowell with a lead off single. Perhaps a bunt to move him into scoring position.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:19 pm
  • As if on cue….Willie moves to 2nd on sac bunt.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:20 pm
  • Not for nothing, and it’s pretty unconventional, but with only one out, and the idiot behind the plate, I think Harris should take his chance with taking third in this at bat. This guys arm is not the most accurate around, and Willie has great speed.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:22 pm
  • What you said about cue…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:22 pm
  • yes indeed…the man steals and the idiot strikes out.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:23 pm
  • yep

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:24 pm
  • hopefully that one will make him think about throwing that pitch again and risk harris coming home on it.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:25 pm
  • I would hope so. Youk walks and now Loretta facing Jenks.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:27 pm
  • Thome, Konerko and Dye up in the bottom half of the inning.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:28 pm
  • ALRIGHTY…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:28 pm
  • Loretta delivers…..now do we leave Paps in or pull him for Hansen/Lopez?

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:28 pm
  • 2 run cushion this time.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:29 pm
  • Youkilis again? Takes cojones to send him back out for those guys to get another look at him…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:30 pm
  • Hansen.

    Tom sf July 9, 2006, 5:30 pm
  • I meant Papelbon…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:31 pm
  • Papi coming to the plate…he has torn Vasquez’s hind area up in the past. You would think Vasquez is thinking about his time with the Yanks right about now.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:31 pm
  • Willie harris is going to play third… I say Cora, but what do I know…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:32 pm
  • It’s clearly been a bad day to be either two of the best young pitchers in the game..

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:34 pm
  • Or put Papi at 1st and move Youk to 3rd.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:35 pm
  • Manny goes down looking.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:37 pm
  • I would also like to take this time to congratulate all the Yank fans on the clearly superior showing that their young pitching “stud” put on for everyone in the futures game. He looks great..

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:38 pm
  • Is that Hughes? I did not see the futures game. I take it he got clobbered?

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:40 pm
  • Here comes Lopez to face Thome. I am going to assume that Hansen is going to follow him to face the next two.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:40 pm
  • Yeah, he got roughed up beautifully.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:41 pm
  • Thome with a lead off double. This is really starting to irritate me.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:41 pm
  • Timlin? Did not really think about him.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:41 pm
  • It’s over on ESPN, and I’m flicking back and forth while chatting with you

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:41 pm
  • Now comes Timlin…with a man on 2nd. Timlin with a man on…I’d rather see Hansen.

    Tom sf July 9, 2006, 5:43 pm
  • Timlin…
I have a tough feeling in the pit of my kitchen here…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:43 pm
  • I agree Rob…let’s see what he’s made of.
    Damn it Timlin.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:44 pm
  • Shit. Timlin sucks with men on. 1st and 3rd, 0 out.

    Tom sf July 9, 2006, 5:45 pm
  • If Dye homers here, it was meant to be.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:45 pm
  • Timlin first pitch single to Konerko….Dye to the plate. I am starting to yell Redrum!

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:45 pm
  • Hughes got lit up in his inning. 2 singles, a really long double, a really long home run, and 3 runs total.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:47 pm
  • Good for Hughes

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:47 pm
  • He does it! 1-2-3!! Wow!
Need to score now guys, let’s not press our luck with another inning from Freddy…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 5:48 pm
  • 5-4. This sucks.

    Tom sf July 9, 2006, 5:48 pm
  • great job Timlin….
I’m all in if Tito wants to start phasing out some of the older arms and putting all the pressure on the young guys…
The road may get rocky now and again, but it’s time to stop leaning in Timlin and give the good guys a chance.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:49 pm
  • We really just want to lose this game.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:49 pm
  • NICE!!!!

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:51 pm
  • I say pull Timlin now…
    Hansen’s a ground ball guy..

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:52 pm
  • Double play and we are out of this…..please.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:52 pm
  • PULL HIM NOW TITO!

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:53 pm
  • wow, bad hop there…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:53 pm
  • Pinch hitters are never a good sign in a game like this…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:54 pm
  • DAMN!!!!!!!!!!

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:54 pm
  • This is going to be a long game if Timlin gets out of this….

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:55 pm
  • .556 pinch hitter….ughhhh

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:56 pm
  • I know….looks like the BP might get some serious work prior to the break.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:56 pm
  • Now he strikes a guy out. The bad thing is that we are through the meat of our order. They are back around to thier leadoff hitter in the bottom half of the inning.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:57 pm
  • before Vazquez comes back out, I’d like to personally thank him for all that he’s done for the Red Sox over the years…
We all really appreciate it, Javier.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:57 pm
  • The Sox need to score this inning. The only pitchers left are Hansen, Orc, and Seanez.

    Tom sf July 9, 2006, 5:58 pm
  • yeah, i know but they do have three days off.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:58 pm
  • Neither of the last two should ever see another game not in mop up duty

    Brad July 9, 2006, 5:59 pm
  • Hansen…meat A and meat B

    Rob July 9, 2006, 5:59 pm
  • C’Mon Captain, let’s put a fresh start on the second half.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:00 pm
  • I hate Jermaine Dye… It’s a horrible feeling to follow the game on text messages and ESPN News crawls, and then come in and open GameCast right as Dye hits a homer in the ninth.
    Suck.

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:03 pm
  • The ChiSox trainer is one Snickers and a set of steps away from a stroke…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:03 pm
  • Tek should try third while the catcher is hurt from that foul ball

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:05 pm
  • you said it, Paul. But at least the Sox got to Jenks before he parted.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:06 pm
  • Yeah, there are some players that I never want to see in Pinstripes – Dye is one of them. Rocco Baldelli, Ted Lilly (again), Albert and Dontrelle are some of the others.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:07 pm
  • I am thinking Kazmir also.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:08 pm
  • yea too bad Lowell isnt still in hes been the best hitter today.

    Anonymous July 9, 2006, 6:10 pm
  • dammit….always a cheap shot with him.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:11 pm
  • yes, Kazmir = filthy.

    Anonymous July 9, 2006, 6:11 pm
  • I was really relishing the idea of giving Contreras his first loss, and having Schilling get the win (select that, Ozzie!). Now, I’m just hoping we can hold on and get the sweep. Not so sure about that possibility right now…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:12 pm
  • wow, he really got up and in on iguchi.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:13 pm
  • Podsednik really bothers me with all that great white boy speed. But, I must have voted for him about a hundred times last year for the all star game….haha

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:15 pm
  • C’mon Hansen. We need you for two innings. Put em away quick…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:16 pm
  • Can’t keep giving this lineup opportunities here….

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:16 pm
  • yeah, Let’s hope he doesnt hang one here to him.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:16 pm
  • Yeah! Strikes him out… Now, the big test…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:17 pm
  • Thome coming to the plate….you just keep getting the feeling that eventaully he is going to tag us good.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:17 pm
  • very late call by Orsillo there…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:17 pm
  • Yeah, I’m getting that feeling right now.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:17 pm
  • First-pitch double play? I could dig it…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:17 pm
  • ChiSox might have the scariest 3/4/5 in the league… We’ve got the 3/4, but we don’t have a 5 to rival that combo…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:18 pm
  • Something tells me it’s going to be Dye – don’t know why I feel that way, but he’s on fire and he always kills the Sox.
    Stop pitching out Varitek’

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:19 pm
  • Flyout! Ok, Craig, one more!

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:20 pm
  • I dunno man, if Lowell is in that spot he’s a huge threat there. Maybe not Dye, but he’s really not as good as we are seeing so far and especially in this series.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:20 pm
  • Quit playing with the guy and get him out.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:21 pm
  • Was that a SB, PB or WP?

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:21 pm
  • good call blue, he def went there.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:21 pm
  • unsure Paul

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:22 pm
  • Strike him out, Hansen!

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:22 pm
  • Do not walk this guy and have to face Dye

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:23 pm
  • good job Hansen

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:24 pm
  • YEAH!!! Huge K by Hansen there! Loving it!

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:24 pm
  • Nice…
This bullpen is going to be unreal in the second half the more appearances they get. I’m loving the thought of it all coming together where we only need five or six and then it’s all downhill. I love these young guys and since I go to McCoy all the time, I’ve been wating awhile.
Just wish we had a young stud like Hughes to depend on now.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:25 pm
  • I’d forgotten that Konerko was out of the game, a big move by the ChiSox to help us out. But who expected us to blow TWO leads, especially considering the pitchers on the mound at the time?
I agree, Dye is going to remember how old he is later this year, but right now, he’s a lot scarier than Lowell or even Trot…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:26 pm
  • I hope Dye’s next hit is to tie it again or at least play catch up, because I don’t want it to be tied when he comes around again.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:26 pm
  • Let’s go, AGon, get on base and let Youk/MLor/Papi get you home…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:27 pm
  • Gonzo battling…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:27 pm
  • Lead off double. Nice way to start Gonzo.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:29 pm
  • The double from Gonzo!! Awesome…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:29 pm
  • how nice would it be for Papi to end it on his shoulders….
    Man, I love this stuff.
    yeah, Gonzo!!!
Papa Jack is amazing. I mean, as coaces go he’s no Mattingly, but he doesnt get a tenth of the credit he deserves.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:29 pm
  • But Youk goes down on three pitches… Not so good…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:30 pm
  • Let’s go Mark….
    Flirting with disaster, they are.
Orc is warming. I really got that feeling now. He walks the first two, and they end it on a long double.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:31 pm
  • Goodbye Vazquez. Hello Ortiz.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:32 pm
  • Wow, second time MLor hit by a pitch this game… Here we go Papi!!!

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:32 pm
  • Papi…just get a hold of a fat offering.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:32 pm
  • Thorton was nasty yesterday on Ortiz.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:33 pm
  • We really need three runs from the Big Man here… If Tavarez is coming in, anything less than three runs might as well be starting with a tie game…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:33 pm
  • They’re stupid if the pitch to him.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:35 pm
  • First pitch into the shift :-P… Still, no DP and two in scoring position for Manny…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:36 pm
  • IBB to Manny

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:36 pm
  • And they walk Ramirez…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:37 pm
  • Nixon 0-6 with 2 K’s today. Pinch hit Kapler.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:37 pm
  • Trot? Better versus LHP lately. Lets hope for the best here, Trot.
    0-2 – arrgh.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:37 pm
  • make that 0-3

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:38 pm
  • 0-7 with 3k’s

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:39 pm
  • Wow, that sucks a LOT. Hansen’s still out there though, so there’s hope…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:39 pm
  • Trot brought his A game today to the plate.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:39 pm
  • righty righty is always better than the other way…Kapler should have hit there and forced Ozzie to put in a righty.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:39 pm
  • I woulda figured Trot had the best chance there… When you come up seven times, the odds are you’re going to get a hit…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:40 pm
  • Whatcha say? Walk Dye and go after the bottom-feeders?
Crap, Tavarez is out there. How many batters do you think before this game is over? 1? Maybe 2?

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:41 pm
  • and here we go…
    hopefully I’m wrong.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:41 pm
  • yeah, I walk Dye.
    Paul — max 3

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:43 pm
  • HUGE K from the Orc!!!

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:44 pm
  • well, I think I’d rather eat the crow here than the other option I had painted in my own head.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:44 pm
  • And just like that, two outs… I’m not going to say a single freakin word until Out No. 3…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:45 pm
  • what the hell was that throw over? What a case this guy is, he’s laughing about it…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:46 pm
  • man, I’m way off base today..
I may as well say, out of sarcasm of course, that there is no way the bottom of our lineup comes through here.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:48 pm
  • Pinch hit Kapler for Varitek here… Please…
    Or don’t… Whatever…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:49 pm
  • How about just score.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 6:50 pm
  • 0 for 6, 3 Ks for Tek, whose average slips below .235. Ouch… I don’t saee why you dont pinch hit Kapler, put Belli behind the plate and replace Trot on defense…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:51 pm
  • Tek is weighing on me lately, but I know he’s due for a great month somewhere. September would be nice.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:51 pm
  • Cora goes down on three, but Crisp doubles — he’s suddenly hot — bringing up Wade B– I mean, Alex Gonzalez… I keep making that mistake lately!

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:52 pm
  • ha, honest mistake there, Paul. I tend to jump to that as well.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:54 pm
  • here comes the heater to Gonzo.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:55 pm
  • or not

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:55 pm
  • Can you guys believe how good Freddy Sanchez has been so far this year….
Why can’t we groom guys like that?

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:56 pm
  • Crap! Another inning with the Orc… Just get more three more outs Tavarez, and we’ll let the top of the order take care of business… Pleaaaaase!!!

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:57 pm
  • I’m fine with Tavarez..please no Seanez..
Perhaps this is one of those Alex Cora pitched endings…

    Brad July 9, 2006, 6:58 pm
  • Hehe, can’t say I regret Sanchez being where he is, considering we got an OK pitcher in return…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 6:58 pm
  • We don’t have the luxury of using any good starters — MAYBE Lester… Beckett went yeaterday, Schilling today and Wakefield needs extra rest cuz his back is hurting him… So it’s Seanez and Johnson. Wow, what a choice…

  • wonder when were gonna start seeing the starting pitchers here lol
IF anyones interested I picked my first half awards here http://redsox2006.blogspot.com/

    TJ July 9, 2006, 7:00 pm
  • Seanez (meatball pitcher) or Johnson (Wiffle ball Pitcher). Ah the choices we get to have jammed down our throats.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:03 pm
  • Tavarez is losing his control… Mackowiak helped him out by swinging at bad pitches…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:03 pm
  • Got him! Thank the Lord… Now, time for Youk, Loretta and Ortiz to put this away…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:05 pm
  • Youk, Loretta and Ortiz, a combined 2-13 today. Granted Youk does have 4 walks.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:06 pm
  • Sheesh. All the multiple-hit games are coming from the 7/8/9 spots. No one else has more than one hit today…
Youk and Loretta do nothing to change that…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:08 pm
  • Damn it.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 7:09 pm
  • Whimpering like a fish his first night in prison.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:10 pm
  • This may sound odd, but we really do need to have Ole Willy back soon. Granted he struck out a lot, but he is a legitimate power hitter to slide in behind Manny.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:11 pm
  • Can’t win games with pathetic at-bats like that… I’m feeeling worse and worse about this…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:11 pm
  • The Orc is still pitching. Maybe Tito is waving the flag and saying get this over with.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:12 pm
  • certainly when hes back and u replace Lowell like today u can slide Youkl over to third and put Pena at first.

    Anonymous July 9, 2006, 7:12 pm
  • I agree, Rob. And his K rate was improving before the injury… It was better than the typical once every three at-bats it had been…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:13 pm
  • Leadoff walk…..so starts the stroll down the Green Mile.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:14 pm
  • Leadoff walk… Tavarez last inning was playing with fire getting into hitters’ counts… Cost him there, it could really cost him with Thome at the plate…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:15 pm
  • I am smelling an appearance by Seanez.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:16 pm
  • Long delay on Gamecast.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:17 pm
  • Well, my GameCast crapped out, but I turned on NESN (realized the game is past the time the programming schedule alots for it) and the inning is over, so yay!

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:18 pm
  • Bottom 15TH B:2 S:1 O:1

    Bottom 15TH B:0 S:0 O:1
Offensive Substitution: Pinch runner Pablo Ozuna replaces Jim Thome.
    Bottom 15TH B:0 S:1 O:3
Ross Gload grounds into double play, second baseman Mark Loretta to shortstop Alex Gonzalez to first baseman Kevin Youkilis. Pablo Ozuna out at 2nd.

    TJ July 9, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • Manny flies out…Nixon to the plate.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:21 pm
  • I have switched over to gameday.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:21 pm
  • Nixon now 0-8 with a groundout to SS

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:22 pm
  • Tek, 1st pitch groundout.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:22 pm
  • Tavarez still wowzers.

TJ Sox Fan July 9, 2006, 7:25 pm
  • watching mlb.com-I HATE the Chicago announcers…”He GONE!” they disserve no mercy…and where is Tek’s bat?

    remyandcoke July 9, 2006, 7:25 pm
  • This is getting old. Somebody please put an end to this for us.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:36 pm
  • Youks Due

TJ Sox Fan July 9, 2006, 7:40 pm
  • A bunch of the Sox are due today.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • A bunch of the Sox are due today.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • Just thre more outs (nice to see Thome’s out of there) and the ChiSox might have to pitch Politte, who hasn’t been good this year… One more inning, guys… And *gulp* it’s Seanez…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:43 pm
  • Rudy Fucking Saenez

TJ Sox Fan July 9, 2006, 7:48 pm
  • Be really nice to see Seanez throw a strike.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:49 pm
  • Seanez does a great Houdini impression.

    Rob July 9, 2006, 7:52 pm
  • GREAT play by Cora! Spears the hard choppe, steps on the bag, one-hop throw to Youk, double play!! We reallly need the runs here now boys, and more than one…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 7:53 pm
  • HOLY CRAP. Double play, end of the inning. Top of the 18th, people!

    rk July 9, 2006, 7:53 pm
  • Wow. Inning number 18. Two games in one…

    Earl July 9, 2006, 7:53 pm
  • Okay, Ortiz decidedly not-clutch there.
Anyone watching this on TV? Have they just given up??

    rk July 9, 2006, 7:59 pm
  • There’s nobody left in the ballpark. They were showing a guy, sound asleep few innings ago.

    Cape Codder July 9, 2006, 8:00 pm
  • That’s funny. I thought I missed the game, but evidently not.

    rk July 9, 2006, 8:03 pm
  • I’m watching the game… All the hitters look exhausted and frustrated on both sides… Dye and Pierzynski this last half-inning especially looked mad at themselves yet incapable to do anything about it…
That’s why we should pinch hit Kapler for Tek this inning, get a fresh bat out there and give Tek the time off… 18 innings of catching –that must be hell…

    Paul SF July 9, 2006, 8:08 pm
  • yeah, especially when the first nine of them were in Chitown heat and humidity. Pinch hit him and then bring in Belli.
Did I just say that? Clearly we’re all dillusional about Tek’s desire to stay in the game today.

    Brad July 9, 2006, 8:14 pm
  • Holy sh*t, is this game really still happening?!

    Nick-YF July 9, 2006, 8:15 pm
  • Have we all expressed our dislike for Jermaine Dye, who against everyone else lets that ball get by him.
    Grrrrrr..

    Brad July 9, 2006, 8:16 pm
  • Lets go after Pawtucketts record LOL

TJ Sox Fan July 9, 2006, 8:18 pm
  • Well, that was fun. (Or not.) I didn’t even turn it on until after the World Cup final was over, and I still saw 11 innings. Ugh.

    Laura July 9, 2006, 8:33 pm
  • Better before the break than any other time, I s’pose.
I’m glad I was on a plane and not watching this debacle in real time.
