Wanted: 1 Miracle: Sox-Braves Gamer I

The Sox hope their stopper of the future becomes the stopper of the present tonight in what could be a pretty good pitcher’s duel (although frankly I’m damn sick of them): Jon Lester v. Tim Hudson. The Sox, initially terrible at interleague play, have rebounded in recent years, but still sport a not-so-nice record against the Braves. Here’s hoping something, anything can pump life into this positively anemic team.

  • Theo has found our miracle!!
Starter Kyle Snyder, destined to be our pitching version of David Ortiz, was claimed off waivers from the Royals (not good enough for the Royals?? Who cares! Savior, I tell you!) today. Here’s how he did in his only start — and only game — this year:
    2IP, 10H, 9R (5ER), 1BB, 2K, 22.50 ERA, 5.50 WHIP, .556 BAA.
(Incidentally, the Royals actually won that game).
His career numbers are much, much better (29 games, 19 starts): ERA of only about 5, WHIP of only about 1.5, and a BAA of only about .320.

  • live from the game, gonna be a hot start down here.

  • With no Youk today, Crisp is back in leadoff, and Cora is at SS, making Lester our one black hole. But the way Sox hitters have been going this year, I expect no less than two home runs and 5 RBI…

  • Sox go quickly and quietly — did you expect anything more? — in the first…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 7:42 pm
  • wierd seeing Ortiz at first, by the way. so that’s why he was doing “sprints” before the game.

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 7:43 pm
  • nice statr for Lester.

    TJ June 16, 2006, 7:46 pm
  • hudson really can bring it. also, television must not do Manny’s “hustle” justice. I was shocked that he just tied to beat that one out.

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 7:53 pm
  • nice hustle, as ajones has a gun for an arm. now THAT was close by Cora. just a smidge ahead of the ball

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 8:02 pm
  • sweet. full bags for the captain. where’s all the commentary tonight? who’s broadcasting the game?

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 8:27 pm
  • oh captain, my captain!

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 8:28 pm
  • At last, a clutch 2-out hit from someone!

    Devine June 16, 2006, 8:30 pm
  • incidentally, Giles looks like Papi’s son next to him on first. Hey Spike!

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 8:35 pm
  • oh, forget to mention that Renteria received a robust “boo” at his first AB. the sox contingent here tonight is impressive and vocal.

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 8:38 pm
  • 34 pitches through 3, 4K, 0BB, 2 (2-out) singles.
It’s been a nice ride thus far. How ’bout some more runs?!

    Devine June 16, 2006, 8:38 pm
  • Nice 2-out hitting goin on while I was gone…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 8:51 pm
  • Rookie’s got himself into some trouble here… Let’s see what he’s made of…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 8:52 pm
  • (Nats increase their lead to 5-3 over the Yanks)

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 8:54 pm
  • And Lester gets out of it… 55 pitches through 4. Not shabby at all…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 8:55 pm
  • Tim Hudson not looking ace tonight, as M-Lor leads off the fifth with a single…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 8:59 pm
  • Papi and Manny have been horrid since the start of the Minnesota series. Both K with M-Lor on first…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 9:04 pm
  • no kidding. big board here shows him at 93(!) pitches through 5 1/3. sox very patient tonight

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 9:06 pm
  • nice play by Manny off the wall to prevent the deuce. PaulSF, where is everybody?

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 9:12 pm
  • Braves might be figuring him out, two singles sandwiching a sacrifice… 1st/3rd, 1 down…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 9:14 pm
  • Don’t know, ATL, maybe they have lives ;-) hehe.

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 9:16 pm
  • Man, bags juiced for Cjones. Not good…

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 9:17 pm
  • Eww, and the walk to Renteria loads the bases… Start the pen warming (NO TAVAREZ!), and get Nipper out there…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 9:17 pm
  • Sac fly. I can handle that. 1st/3rd, 2 down, 4-1 Sox.

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 9:19 pm
  • Well, that certainly didn’t help the pitch count, but considering the Braves loaded the bases twice, I’ll take the one run… Lester has done well the last few nnings to put out his own fires…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 9:22 pm
  • Nice! I’ll gladly take 1 in that situation. I’m staring at a dormant Sox bullpen at the moment. Will Francona push another frame? I shudder at the alternatives.

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 9:23 pm
  • snow in. I think I see Seanez warming up, but that’s only a guess from where I’m sitting.

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 9:40 pm
  • Lester got through the 6th 1-2-3, and JT Snow just pinch-hit for him, so an awesome performance tonight from Jonny boy…
    6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 9:40 pm
  • yup. our UFC poster boy. hold on…

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 9:44 pm
  • And he gets the clean, 2K inning…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 10:00 pm
  • good to see Timlin back on the hill. new kid on the block warming in the pen

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 10:01 pm
  • i blame the slow board tonite on interleague play. plus………sox fans are pissed with effort at this point. or maybe just me. at least the pen looked sound tonite.

    sf rod June 16, 2006, 10:12 pm
  • Tek making sure the kid get’s the save.

    LocklandSF June 16, 2006, 10:14 pm
  • looks like the nats just rolled over for the yanks. 6-5 scum.

    sf rod June 16, 2006, 10:16 pm
  • make it 7.

    sf rod June 16, 2006, 10:17 pm
  • quick stop by the pen to see Paps hitting all his spotps. ovation for him here was huge.

    ATLSF June 16, 2006, 10:18 pm
  • 2 more.

    Devine June 16, 2006, 10:20 pm
  • i hate to see JP get behind on counts and have to rely on the fastball. better hitters would have hurt him there.

    sf rod June 16, 2006, 10:21 pm
  • Nice play, Lowell. 1 more.

    Devine June 16, 2006, 10:22 pm
  • thank you nats for showing no fight in bottom of the ninth.

    sf rod June 16, 2006, 10:24 pm
  • DAAAAAAAAAMN, LOWELL! Way to go, Sox. More runs next time, please. Good job, Lester, Keep rolling.

    Devine June 16, 2006, 10:25 pm
  • lowell is so f ing solid. congrats to lester. more to come i’m sure.

    sf rod June 16, 2006, 10:25 pm
  • For sure with Clement on the DL Lester will get more starts and perhaps a reprisal by Pauley?

    TJ June 16, 2006, 10:28 pm
  • I like how GameCast just sputtered before the bootk of the ninth started… Nice to see Paps actually get a save for once…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 10:30 pm
  • gamecast and the yahoo game thing died too lol

    TJ June 16, 2006, 10:32 pm
  • Very encouraging start from Lester, and four runs against Tim Hudson? I’ll take it every freakin time…

    Paul SF June 16, 2006, 10:34 pm
  • So, should I pick up Lester to replace Livan on my fantasy team? He looked good tonight.

    Nick-YF June 16, 2006, 11:10 pm
  • my fantasy team consists of the red sox rostewr, so i added Lester already :) nice payoff for last nites game :)
