Welcome to the Working Week: Yanks-Rays Gamer VI

You mean those bats are used to hit baseballs? Who knew?! The Yanks didn’t do wonders for their Pythagorean Record last night because of some middle relief issues, but they still won. More importantly, they hit and actually scored more than 4 runs. Does this mean the Yanks’ vaunted offense has finally decided to join the party?

Edwin Jackson, who was once a prospect on the level of Phil Hughes, hopes the Yanks return to their early season ways, which means he wants a duplicate of his last start against the Bombers. There’s the scary possibility, AL East fans, that Jackson is finally living up to the hype after a few years of disappointment. He’s been very good in his first two starts. The Yanks counter with the wiley veteran Andy Pettitte, who is coming off a good start. Let’s make this two in a row. Go Bombers! Use those bats the way they were meant to be used!

From Pete Abe. Cano and Giambi are back.

Matsui DH

  • Manny could easily had a walk there if not for the ball just happening to hit the nub of his bat as he pulled away twice

  • People are going to have to stop throwing the ball down the middle against the Yankees.
And when Matsui gets going, he’s fearsome. Looks like he’s in the middle of one of those stretches now.

  • The outcome of this game is very likely going to depend on whether Pettitte is going to settle in or whether his luck from the first two innings is going to run out and some of those hits are going to start driving people in.

  • Longoria is a glorious guy. He’s gonna be big. Watching him at bat, or go from first to third.. he just feels great. May Bill James strike me down for saying such things

  • gutty effort by Andy as he gets through 7. A lot of baserunners, but not many runs to show for it. This has been is his M.O. since he returned to the Yanks.

  • Very nice play up the middle by Cano to help Farnsproof that inning.

  • Men LOB notwithstanding, the Yankees played well today. That play by Cano was absolutely amazing. Guy’s got sick range.

  • Cano’s range is excellent – I think he’s a top tier 2B defensively…but, as I mistakenly posted in the Sox gamer thread…Worst team ever with runners in scoring position! 8 men left on base….in the the last 3 innings. Is it me or should we have at least 7 runs by now?

  • Pena scares me a little here…

  • But Mo does the job…he looks really sharp in the early going here. April can be a shaky month for him sometimes, but he looks great. Not even a close call so far.
