Well, That Was Fast

No Sox game today, and probably none tomorrow either. Suck.

  • On the good news front, the Globe reports that Tito had penciled in WMP to play CF today, and despite the rainout, he also is penciled in to play Monday.

  • Damn. Having the Sox game on in the background was the only thing that was going to make my tax prep bearable.
Great to hear about some possible WMP starts… Let’s hope that plan sticks when play resumes (Tuesday?). Here in the Hudson Valley, we’ve got heavy slush pouring down from the skies, and it’s headed eastward.
The other upside is that Tito now has an excuse to skip a Tavarez start entirely. And DiceK may get some Japanese-style rest between starts.

  • Bahaha, WMP to play CENTER FIELD? Surely, you jest.

  • Actually, Andrew, Wily Mo seemed to have better success as a CF than a RF in 2006.
For his career, according to ESPN, here are then number of games WMP has played at each outfield position, with his related fielding percentage:
    LF 41 .942
    CF 124 .988
    RF 158 .966
So as you can see, centerfield seems to suit him far better than the other two outfield slots. He also has far more put-outs in center than right, despite playing fewer games in center.
(I also can’t help but note here that the Yankees have the worst fielding percentage so far in 2007 of all 30 teams in the majors…)

  • He was better there last year then he was in right. Range isn’t great but he doesn’t make as many stupid mistakes.

  • And Hudson, if you’re going to sling feces out of your cage, at least do it intelligently.

  • Right field in Fenway is probably a tougher position than center in Fenway. And forget left for the moment, since he’s not playing there.
Wily Mo in center doesn’t inspire visions of Andruw Jones, honestly, but where is he supposed to play if they want to get him at-bats? He ain’t supplanting Drew, he ain’t subbing for Ramirez, and he ain’t likely to DH except against the most brutal of all lefties instead of Ortiz, and even then I doubt he’d DH…
Center makes the most sense, whether people like it or not, or think it’s funny or not, particularly considering Coco’s travails.

  • So does this mean Coco is now a glorified pinch runner?

    Andrew April 15, 2007, 3:24 pm
  • well, the sox are winning, and in first place…i guess coco wasn’t “the answer” afterall…neither apparently is wmp…boy things can change a lot in a year…

Well, that looks like it might be the only way he can get on base!
