Peter Abraham notes that the Yankees’ Opening Day starter is likely to be none other than … Carl Pavano.
Mike Mussina pitched today and will start again on Thursday. Joe Torre just said they would not start him on April 2 on three days’ rest.
Andy Pettitte (sore back) needs another bullpen and a start before he’s ready. There is little chance he will be ready for April 2.
That leaves Pavano, who is scheduled to make his final start of the spring on Tuesday. That would line him up to face Tampa Bay at Yankee Stadium.
Some could call it ironic that Peter Abraham, who twice this spring has called the Sox’ offense a "house of cards," is now reporting on the fact that the Yanks’ pitching staff is, well, doing a pretty good impersonation of a house of cards.
