Where’s Papa?

We hope someone brought a tape recorder, and that someday we’ll all be able to listen to it in a booth up at Cooperstown. Pedro and The Boss met today (Over cocktails? Lunch? Dinner? What did they eat? Was Nelson in attendance? Details, please!) to discuss a possible Yankee contract for the man who would drill the Babe in his bum.

Elsewhere, Cristian Guzman signs with the…Expos? Grays? Nationals? Washingtons? Whoever they are, they’ll have a shortstop, and the Sox now have one less option for that slot.

And we don’t even want to think about this whole Sheffield extortion deal.

  • As for Guzman, I imagine he was never on the Sox’ list – if you want to talk about organizational ethos then Guzman doesn’t fit at all. No patience at the plate, though a very good fielder. There was no way they were going near him for $4M/year, I mean, that’s 5 times what they paid Pokey, and the Sox are also most definitely not going to sign a guy to a guaranteed 4 year deal unless they use the prospect Hanley Ramirez to acquire someone else or completely reassess his readiness, as he is predicted to make a high impact appearance in 2006.

  • “One Night in Sheffield”. It could be a sex tape, or it could be an english punk music festival documentary!

  • Sheffield is a nut job, but kudos for standing up to this punk extorter. News report says suspect in custody and was a minister in Chicago. This guy related to Al Sharpton?
