Worst to First!

Ah, a mere two weeks ago the Sox were on a pace to lose 162 and finish that same number back of the Bombers.  How things change.  If the season ended today, we’d be off to the playoffs, with the hated Yankees grabbing the next chartered flight back to LaGuardia, a bus ready to get them to their soon-to-be-emptied lockers.  And Cashman would be joining the ranks of the unemployed – finally.

Unfortunately, it’s only April, and by this time next week we might be calling for Terry’s head.  15 down, 147 to go.  Keep it up, Boomer!

  • Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Nats are also in first. That ain’t gonna last forever, either. Torre’s Tornados will totally trash the Sox’s trailer. Just a matter of time….

  • If the Yankees are, say, eight games below .500 at the end of the month, and the Sox are maybe six games above, that means that the Yanks will be at 8-16, with the Sox at 15-9. That’s a 7 game differential. Now, I realize that it’s likely the Yanks won’t be that horrible, but if it happens, I’m sorry, I really, REALLY hope that Terry manages to keep the Sox ahead. If not, well, then, what can I say? We’d be even more pathetic than I thought, which would make me and many other people extremely sad and/or angry. And that’s never good.

  • Okay, so I just realized that for the Yanks to go 8-16 this month, they would have to go 2-7 over their last 10, which isn’t likely even from them. But hey, I can dream, right?
