WS Game 2 Open Thread: Great Minds Think Alike

Alright, so THIS is your game thread.  Forget those last two.  They were just cheap attempts to be self-deprecating and humorous.  Who knows if they were either.  This one, on the other hand, is the real deal.  And the 25 over/under still holds.  Chat away.

  • Those WS sleeve patches with the globe and the NASA-style typeface….a little 1996, no?

  • I can’t believe they didn’t consult with you before designing…

  • Ok, I complained about this before, but I’ll say it again: wtf is up with the Astros’ uniforms? Last night, grey shirts. Tonight, maroon shirts. As far as I can tell, they’ll use any combination of white, grey, maroon or pinstripes along with either black or maroon caps. it’s like watching a different team every night. Does MLB need to set some kind of guidelines? Of course, I shouldn’t be surprised, given this team’s uniform history (which, of course, is rivaled only by the old White Sox uniforms for tastelessness…)

  • WTF IS WRONG WITH FOX??? I am not one to lazily slag corporations for pursuing profits, as that is their purpose for being, BUT DID WE REALLY HAVE TO SEE THAT LAST AD RATHER THAN BAGWELL’S AT-BAT WHICH RESULTED IN A HOME RUN? Damn them!

  • You get ’em at AF!

  • I can’t believe the Broncs blew that game against the friggin’ Giants. Jake Plummer is a bum.

  • Tim McCarver calling the Angels the “California Angels” a moment ago was the first thing he’s said that brought a smile to my face. Maybe ever.

  • Talking about the weather is the great common glue between people — however boring it may be, you can always talk to someone else about the weather if all else fails.
Fox’s all-important “Sounds of the Game” evidently revealed this to be true even among ballplayers.

  • Is it just me, or have there been an unusually high number of doubles (at least in proportion to other hits) during this game?

  • Over/under on how many times the Pujols dinger is mentioned if/when Lidge comes in: 14. (Replays: 3)

  • Konerko!

    YF October 23, 2005, 10:44 pm
  • How much did K’s free-agent price just go up?

    YF October 23, 2005, 10:46 pm
  • Wow. I hope the Halos get that guy.

  • They’re going on and on on ESPN radio about how the pitch that “hit” Dye before the salami was actually a foul ball. Is this like the thirtieth bizarro call that has gone the ChiSox’s way? Ivan, I know you know what I’m talking about. Plus, I have to say, just seeing Pettitte out there is making me root for the ‘Stros. Screw the Sox. That’s a motto I can stick with.

    Spidey October 23, 2005, 10:58 pm
  • Conceivable the pitch nicked Dye’s uni, but it sure looked like a clean foul ball from the replays. Doesn’t excuse floating one down the middle for Konerko, though. Not that there was anywhere to put him.

  • Vizcaino?

    YF October 23, 2005, 11:16 pm
  • Genius!

    YF October 23, 2005, 11:16 pm
  • What drama. I love baseball.
Yes. It is the 30th bizarro call that’s gone for the ChiSox. I have said it all along, the umps are on the take. Ozzie’s no fool.
I’ve been hoping that every game will be close and the series will go to seven. So far, I’m getting what I wished for.

  • Podsednik! (Is Cliff Lee watching?)
    Someone take Lidge’s razor.

    YF October 23, 2005, 11:29 pm
  • Wow. Didn’t Pods hit like 0 HR this year?
This game will be remembered as the Meltdown of the Ace Closers. Meanwhile, Jenks gets the win for his efforts.
I have said all along that the ChiSox will take it (and I’m rooting for them, but really I could be rooting for Houston almoset as easily). However, I wouldn’t count Houston out just yet. But they’ve got a lot to do.

    Ivan X (AngelsFan) October 23, 2005, 11:30 pm
  • This was a very entertaining game.

    Ivan X (AngelsFan) October 23, 2005, 11:30 pm
  • Okay, you give up a huge tater to Albert Puhols–it happens. The guy is a beast. …But Scott PODSEDNIK?!?! I mean, did he have a single homer the entire year?? Holy crap. So much for Lidge being the next coming of Mo.

    Spidey October 23, 2005, 11:31 pm
  • I’d expect an Astros win behind Oswalt. But after that they’re in big trouble.

    YF October 23, 2005, 11:32 pm
  • They got a solid enough start from Pettite tonight, so they could get another, plus Oswalt. However, their bullpen is (obviously) going to have to do better, and then they’re going to have to get lucky for two more games since Clemens appears to be cooked (and really has been since he hurt his hamstring in September).

    Ivan X (AngelsFan) October 23, 2005, 11:36 pm
  • YF, I think you meant Carlos Lee.

    tom yf October 24, 2005, 12:16 am
  • I stand corrected.

    YF October 24, 2005, 10:08 am
  • suddenly the sox’ sweep of the sox doesn’t seem so painful. they’d win this thing if they lost all their cleats
