WS Game 3 Open Thread: Messing in Texas

The good news for Yanks fans: reports are that Cashman will return (3 years, $5 million) while Theo and the Sox are still haggling. The coaching staff is coming together as well: Bowa at third, Sojo at first, Mazz on the bench, and possibly Gator instructing the pitchers. It’s not really the ideal staff, in our humble opinion (Bowa’s a hothead, Mazz is a Mazz, Gator has no record whatsoever). Anyway, tonight we’ll be thinking about the ChiSox and the Astros. Can Houston break through? Will they open their roof? Is anyone gonna slap a ChiSox wife? We’ll be commenting, and we hope you will be, too. Thirty comments? We know you’re up to it, YFSF Nation…..

  • It’s crazy that Theo and management are stuck in tough negotiations. What’s up with Luchino? You’d think the boy wonder would be rewarded after 2004.
I hope Cashman is, in fact, coming back. And I hope it’s on his terms, which means Tampa will be less meddlesome (if press reports are true).

  • Bowa is also the heir apparent, if Torre has an early season catastrophe. As for the roof, why the hell should MLB be allowed to dictate that the Astros open it? It’s the home field, and they should be able to use it to their advantage, and all the things I read pointed to their wanting it open. It’s BS.

  • Are they ever going to play this thing, or is it just going to be bullshit all night? It’s well past 8:30 at this point. How late am i supposed to stay awake for this? Do they expect any kids to watch this? SELIG!!!!

  • “Bowa is also the heir apparent”
I really hope that’s just the dirty day dream of an evil Sox fan. FWIW, I think Torre was part of the decision-making process in the choice of Bowa, who apparently has a very good reputation as a third base coach. It seems unlikely that Torre would choose his mid-season replacement.
    has the game started?

  • My real dirty day dream involved Dale Sveum waving Derek Jeter home the first week of the season, with predictable results…
(Unfortunately Dale will be risking Prince Fielder’s career instead of Cap’n Perfect’s)

  • Bowa’s not the heir to anything except a drive back to his house. It would seem Mattingly is now the “heir,” if there is one. Or maybe it remains Girardi. By the time Torre is done, he might be ready to come north.

  • Another day, another Astros uniform. Game 1 = grey, Game 2 = maroon, Game 3 = pinstripes. Maybe they’ll be like the Padres and go camouflage tomorrow. (Remember those? Are they still using those?)

  • Is this game ever going to end? 7-5, bottom of the 14th.

  • It would be so much damn easier to actually post a few comments during the game if I wasn’t struggling to hold my eyes open after the second inning. Lucky for me, I wake up at 2:00am on my couch and the thing is still on! Selig and Fox (or Faux, for the really blue people!) make a perfect marriage – they’re both terrible at what they do.

  • 10 comments. Yeesh. Thanks for dying on us in the 5th inning, Typepad. Maybe there was something in the air, the server crash coincided with the Astros mid-game collapse.
This one is, as they say back home, OVAH.
