Here's what Joel Sherman says about the Yanks and Roy Halladay:
A person close to the Steinbrenner family said that Cashman has not even asked permission to expand the 2009 payroll nor is there anticipation that ownership would allow a significant financial increase now. This is pertinent because the Yankees do believe that the Red Sox have put Clay Buchholz into a trade offer for Halladay and that Boston just might get the ace righty. …
As of early this afternoon, the Yankees also had engaged in no extensive talks with the Mariners for Jarrod Washburn. The Mariners had yet to request any players from the Yankees.
Either due to high financial costs or because their scouting reports are not overly favorable, the Yanks also are not pursuing Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo, or Arizona's Doug Davis and Jon Garland.
So the Yankees are doing basically nothing this trade deadline? I don't find this entirely believable.

In fact, I find a report like this likely means the Yanks are on the verge of a big deal.
seriously. Give it a break, Yankees.
I believe this as much as I did when they said “Bubba Crosby will be our CF this year”.
Who’s buying this verbal vomit?
Dude Brad chill…nobody on the yankees is saying any thing along the lines of we arent in the market to make a move. This is all theoretical by Joel Sherman. The only yankees source said that Cashman hadnt asked to expand payroll which is likely true since that type of decision would be made once a trade has been worked out….

I agree with this very much.
Oh, I’m chilled, Sam. It just came off wrong, and I wasn’t directing my venom towards NY, but rather the idea that they’re not in the market to make a big move, because as we know, they definitely always are.
Justin Duchscherer is 2-3 weeks away from finishing his minor league rehab. He’d be an excellent buy-low acquisition. Billy Beane likes to fleece teams for prospects, but Dukes’ value is probably at its lowest point right now.
Even Beane said he would take a “B-level” prospect for Dutch. Of course, he probably views a guy like Austin Jackson as a “B-level” guy.
Fair enough Brad, I read it as directed at the Yanks FO…if its directed at the author of the piece then I agree fully!
Why should they make a move? They’re in first place by 2.5 games! ;)
I’ll be more shocked by a big trade than by nothing. I expect a small move for a reliever.
