  • Holy crap. Wright to the backstop. Jeez

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • Wright unleashed THAT one.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • Cairo, scootin’ around at first.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 7:28 pm
  • Yay for Cairo at 1B!

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 7:28 pm
  • A-Rod walks. Nice AB.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:31 pm
  • If you’re wondering whether it’s tough to field in the Metrodome outfield, that last fly by Matsui should confuse you. Shannon Stewart just got to that thing.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:33 pm
  • confuse you? i think i meant “settle matters”. codeine talkin’ overe here.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:34 pm
  • With the Twins pitching Santana, one of the, if not the, best starters in the league, and the Yanks pitching Wright, one of the worst starters in the AL, you’d think our chances in this game are slim and none.
However, this is baseball, where anything can happen, and for some reason, I’m strangely, or perhaps stupidly, optimistic.

  • Woohoo, Phillips sighting

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 7:36 pm
  • Lo and behold: Andy Phillips. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:37 pm
  • Poor Andy.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:39 pm
  • Supper’s ready, excuse me.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 7:39 pm
  • Whoa. Looked to me like they caught Hunter.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:44 pm
  • Crap. Same old Mr. Wright.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:46 pm
  • Sigh.

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 7:46 pm
  • Single off the baggie. Bullpen!

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:49 pm
  • Great. Gator’s coming out.
    Gator: “Try not to suck.”
    Wright: “Can’t help it.”

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:50 pm
  • A-Rod saves a run. Thank you A-Rod.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:51 pm
  • Horrible decision on the base path. Get us out of the inning…

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 7:52 pm
  • Hmmmm…I see my optimism is taking a severe beating.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 7:53 pm
  • WTF? Awful.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:53 pm
  • Juan Castro: Yankee killer.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 7:54 pm
  • And it costs. Castro raps one. 2-0. Wright not missing any bats here.

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:54 pm
  • check that
    Jaret Wright: Yankee killer.

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 7:54 pm
  • “The limit is around 80”? Pitches or runs?

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:55 pm
  • They’ll pay Wright his 4 million buyout and he’ll be elsewhere next year.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 7:55 pm
  • plunked…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 7:57 pm
  • Glad the Twins still have their “Opening Day” logo on the field. Hello!
Meanwhile…Wright dings Stewart. Has he thrown one swinging strike that was not tipped yet?

    YF April 15, 2006, 7:58 pm
  • Most productive thing he’s done all night…

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 7:58 pm
  • Snakebit..

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:00 pm
  • Unbelievable.

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:01 pm
  • Could have been worse

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:02 pm
  • And A-Rod holds down the damage. Hopefully that’s the end of Wright. Time for the Yanks to face facts: he’s not an ML pitcher right now.

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:03 pm
  • A-Rod is wearing his boots of +4 damage control tonight

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 8:03 pm
  • My optimism is on it’s death bed…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:04 pm
  • Looked like a good call

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:06 pm
  • Filthy.

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 8:08 pm
  • Wow. Beauty to k Damon looking. Santana sharp.

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:08 pm
  • Damon frozen on the breaking pitch.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:08 pm
  • Jaret “Confidence Booster” Wright?

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 8:10 pm
  • Does Joe have anybody warming up in the pen, for Christ’s sake?

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:11 pm
  • Did Hunter just swing and miss? I was in the kitchen? Also, if Michael Kay thinks the Twins are going to give Torii Hunter $13 million next year he’s crazier than Julian Tavarez

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:13 pm
  • HOLY CRAP. A REAL OUT!!

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 8:15 pm
  • K looking!!! Woo-hoo. (looked like a ball, tho)

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:15 pm
  • Whoa, that was a generous strike zone. Hunter gone.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:15 pm
  • And another swing and miss!

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:16 pm
  • Thank God that one hung up

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:16 pm
  • Jeetah!

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:21 pm
  • Jeter, that’s the way to start it…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:22 pm
  • Okay A-Rod, take us home.

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 8:23 pm
  • Jorgie…

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 8:25 pm
  • Come on Georgie….

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:25 pm
  • Matsui and Posada both hit bullets, right at someone, damn

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:26 pm
  • Need to keep this at three runs, Jaret…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:28 pm
  • Whoever in the Yankee hierarchy who wanted to sign Jaret Wright must be patting themselves on the back about now.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:36 pm
  • there’s a break, out at the plate

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:39 pm
  • Lucky there. Catchable ball for Cairo, but he made up for it.

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:39 pm
  • Sloppy play, Cairo should have scooped that though…then again he’s played about as much first base in his career as I have…

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 8:39 pm
  • 2nd runner thrown out at home, or it’d be at least 5-0

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:40 pm
  • Now let’s see if The Proctologist can extricate himself from this jam….

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:41 pm
  • Baltimore chop, and it’s 4-0.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:41 pm
  • 4-0. And no respect for Rondell.

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:42 pm
  • Snakebit…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:47 pm
  • Hard hit balls go for outs, and the weak dribbler by Cano goes for a hit. We’ll take it.

    Anonymous April 15, 2006, 8:49 pm
  • Cairo!

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:50 pm
  • C’mon Johnny, get him in…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:51 pm
  • At least got one in…C’mon Derek, need a 2 out hit…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:52 pm
  • Derek! Our hero!

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:54 pm
  • Jeetah!!! 4-2

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:54 pm
  • Jeeeeter! (squealing)

    walein April 15, 2006, 8:55 pm
  • Sheff’s the tying run…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:55 pm
  • Does Giambi have crap lifetime numbers against johan? (any worse than cairo?)

    walein April 15, 2006, 8:56 pm
  • …and yes, i know he got the ground rule double…i’m just wondering

    walein April 15, 2006, 8:57 pm
  • At least were back in the game.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 8:57 pm
  • We’ll take the two.
(PS: How much worse can this night get for Phillips? A K and then a potential dinger pulled back into the park by Hunter. What’s next? A beaning?)

    YF April 15, 2006, 8:59 pm
  • Can o’corn…hee hee..Phew..

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:00 pm
  • He went…boooo

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:02 pm
  • Proctor throwing 96 according to the Dome radar gun.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:03 pm
  • He’s getting hit pretty good. He’s lucky to have two outs.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:04 pm
  • The Proctonator is all about balls flying everywhere! He’s got that something that Torre loves–Moxy!

    walein April 15, 2006, 9:06 pm
  • You can’t stop Tony Bastista, you can only hope to contain him.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:07 pm
  • K!

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:08 pm
  • It’s true Matty…tony B. is an American Icon. I can’t blame Proctor for failing to get him out.

    walein April 15, 2006, 9:09 pm
  • matty, saw that lineup the Sox fielded today. Reminded me of the ’27 Yankees.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:10 pm
  • Yeah, that was a sh*t sandwich of a lineup, eh? At least we scored… wait. Never mind.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:12 pm
  • ARod is NOT in a groove right now.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:13 pm
  • Double for Jorgie. Lotta at’em balls tonight. Would be nice to get a couple of breaks….

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:14 pm
  • Damn, almost went out. Need a 2-out hit. Andy..Andy..Andy…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:15 pm
  • Give the kid a break!!!!

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:16 pm
  • Not gonna happen.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:17 pm
  • matty, Wakes pitched pretty good though, so it wasn’t all bad.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:17 pm
  • Beckett tomorrow, huh? Suppose your looking forward to that. Isn’t it about time he developed a blister or something?

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:19 pm
  • Isn’t it about time Big Ugly’s knee(s) exploded?
Yeah, Wake pitched about as well as you could expect him to. Three runs through nine innings. Its a shame we fielded a AA lineup.
Beckett should right the ship tomorrow. It’d be a shame if we lost two home series in a row…

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:23 pm
  • castillo triple…ugggg

    walein April 15, 2006, 9:23 pm
  • Torree tempting the fates with an 0-16 rondell w/ RISP.

    walein April 15, 2006, 9:24 pm
  • He’s only intentionally walking Mauer cause White has a .098 batting average. What a wimp!

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:24 pm
  • Nice hook Doc!

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:24 pm
  • Because Scott Proctor is– the Doctor of Ks.

    walein April 15, 2006, 9:25 pm
  • That was disgusting…That’s what happens when CB Wright leaves the game…

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 9:25 pm
  • Hey, it worked! What a surprise!
In other news: Rondell White sucks really bad.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:26 pm
  • Way to start it Robby. Off the tough lefty…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:28 pm
  • Damon! Let’s go Derek!

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:30 pm
  • So long Johan…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:31 pm
  • WE: Not having any problems rooting for Damon, huh?

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:31 pm
  • Not a bit…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:32 pm
  • anyone else hear “Jeter swallows?”

    RichYF April 15, 2006, 9:33 pm
  • Jeetah!!!!!

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:34 pm
  • DEREK!!!!!!

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:34 pm
  • Sheff! First and third! Let’s go A-Rod!

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:35 pm
  • Sheff! AROD is due and that’s an understatement.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:36 pm
  • Wow. That was efficient. It took him all of five pitches to ruin six innings of work.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 9:38 pm
  • That’s what the Yankees will do to top notch pitching.

    walein April 15, 2006, 9:38 pm
  • Yes!!! 5-4.

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:39 pm
  • Thank you Alex. Let’s get more.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:39 pm
  • And it looks like we’re gonna get a peek at Liriano, too. Treat.

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:40 pm
  • This Liriano kid is wicked.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:40 pm
  • 2x steal! Dangerous, but we’ll take it.

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:43 pm
  • Lucky that was right at Morneau. Damn

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:44 pm
  • Ugh. A hit there would really have been nice.

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:46 pm
  • Liriano throwing 99 according to the Dome radar gun, with a 90 mph slider.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:47 pm
  • Gotta hold ’em down now, don’t want to waste this nice comeback.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:48 pm
  • Alex flashes da leathah!

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:50 pm
  • More great D from Alex. And here comes Myers. Cringe.

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:50 pm
  • Mike Myers coming in to face lefty Morneau. Joe using the pen before the Yanks fall behind. Amazing.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:51 pm
  • Myers does the job. Righty up next. See ya Mike.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:54 pm
  • Wish there was a way to write the Holloween theme music.

    walein April 15, 2006, 9:54 pm
  • I”m fine with Farnsworth coming in as long as they keep him thru the 8th…and don’t to Sly Vallone just to do it.

    walein April 15, 2006, 9:55 pm
  • 1 and done. On comes the Farns. Keep an eye on the pitch selection here. Over on Bronx Banter, Alex Belth ripped KF for his choices yesterday, and has complained about his decision-making in the past. If he starts shaking off Jorge….be worried.

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:55 pm
  • Well done for Farns there. Three pitches. The last two headed right where Jorge called for them. And a good result.

    YF April 15, 2006, 9:57 pm
  • Farns has a great arm but still has some issues between the ears.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 9:59 pm
  • The Andy Phillips Jinx Night continues apace.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:00 pm
  • Cano has started both the Yankee rallys tonight. But not this time.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:01 pm
  • Even when Cano walks he doesn’t walk. Damn!

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:01 pm
  • Good test for Farns coming up here. Needs to get it to Mo.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:03 pm
  • It seemed to me Cano was being a bit more patient this year and getting into better hitting counts. The numbers bear this out.. So far his p/pa is 3.22 in 2006. In 2005 it was 3.02.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:06 pm
  • Mo already up in the pen. Good idea Joe.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:08 pm
  • K. Not sure why Posada didn’t go for the K high and in, though.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:09 pm
  • K by Kyle! 2 more please.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:09 pm
  • Ball four! Thats the Farnsworth that I know!

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:11 pm
  • 4 pitch walk. Ugh. Here comes Joe and here comes Mo.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:11 pm
  • Horrible. 4 pitch walk. Pitch 3 looked like he dropped down a bit. His mechanics aren’t that consistent.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:11 pm
  • Well, whatever happens, I can’t bitch about Torre’s moves tonight.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:13 pm
  • Mo. Now that is how it’s done.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:14 pm
  • DP! Sweet! 4 pitches to get out of the 8th.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:15 pm
  • That was predictable.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:15 pm
  • He coulda pulled Wright earlier, that’s for sure.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:16 pm
  • An insurance run would be nice. Let’s go Johnny.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:17 pm
  • Yeah, that’s true. But you have to give Wright some sort of chance, at 7 mil. a year.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:19 pm
  • Ugh. Jeter bunts. Two words that bring pain to my heart.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:22 pm
  • Thunderstorms in the area, and it’s f–king up the satellite feed on my Television. Damn.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:23 pm
  • I love it when Jeter bunts. I wish he’d do it more often. Like every time he comes up.
Actually, its at least defensible in this situation.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:24 pm
  • Sheff hangin’ tough

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:27 pm
  • 12 pitches and counting..

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:28 pm
  • At least he made him work….

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:29 pm
  • Unlucky number 13. Shit

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:29 pm
  • C’mon Alex

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:29 pm
  • Now comes the time when Rodriguez does, uh, nothing.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:29 pm
  • A-Rod out. And that’s why we hate that Jeter bunt.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:30 pm
  • Damon stranded at third. Hope that doesn’t come back to haunt us.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:30 pm
  • With Rivera on the mound I wouldn’t worry too much WE.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:31 pm
  • Ugh. Shoulda been a k. Now it’s an infield hit. Nice try by Mo though.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:34 pm
  • Yeah! Lets go Mauer!

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:35 pm
  • Where was that?!?

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:38 pm
  • Just out of curiosity, when was the last time Rivera gave up a homer?

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:38 pm
  • And now 3-2. Come on Mo!

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:39 pm
  • Uh-Oh…

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:40 pm
  • MAUER TIME!

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:40 pm
  • 1 down.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:42 pm
  • Thanks Rondell.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:42 pm
  • Don’t you walk Hunter for a force at home and to set up the dp? Not crazy about this…

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:43 pm
  • Lets see how future Yankee Tori Hunter does here…

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:44 pm
  • Come on Mo. High and in off the plate here.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:44 pm
  • 2 down!

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:45 pm
  • Damn. It came back to haunt us.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:46 pm
  • Awful. Yanks done in by a couple of cheap turf hits by Castillo.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:47 pm
  • oh no mo.

    sf rod April 15, 2006, 10:47 pm
  • sucks

    walein April 15, 2006, 10:47 pm
  • YEAH! Morneau! TWINS WIN!

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:47 pm
  • LMAO
    Papelbon > Rivera

    Hudson April 15, 2006, 10:48 pm
  • That was disappointing.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:48 pm
  • Nick_YF just called me from a local sports’ bar to say—“Awful.”

    walein April 15, 2006, 10:48 pm
  • hey now…not just turf hits. johny “d” and matsui helped out.

    sf rod April 15, 2006, 10:48 pm
  • Easy Hudson, let’s not get crazy here.

    Brad April 15, 2006, 10:49 pm
  • Papelbon=Papelbon>foulke>Can-o-Beans

    walein April 15, 2006, 10:49 pm
  • Nice to see some other Sox fans enjoying this. Mo blew that one, huh?

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:49 pm
  • Wang vs Radke, tomorrow at 4. Let’s hope we can salvage.

    YF April 15, 2006, 10:49 pm
  • Papelbon=zero blown saves
    Foulke=zero blown saves
    Rivera=1! (and counting)

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:50 pm
  • Alwasys a great thing when it works out like that. Torre going to him for five outs because of how awful the latest Brave castoff is, and the season is only two weks old.

    Brad April 15, 2006, 10:51 pm
  • I repeat, Papelbon > Rivera (in ’06)
    Yankees = cellar dwellers

    Hudson April 15, 2006, 10:51 pm
  • FWIW however, that last pitch should have never been hit. It was on the hands and up.

    Brad April 15, 2006, 10:52 pm
  • Not to mention, the game was really lost when Matsui went to third instead of second to prevent the winning run from being in scoring position.

    Brad April 15, 2006, 10:53 pm
  • Red Sox – 1st place
    Yankees – last place.
    HOO HAW!

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:53 pm
  • Oh Hudson. That’s like saying Curt Schilling is a greater pitcher than Randy johnson…it’s just not true…no matter what Curt Schilling says about that.

    walein April 15, 2006, 10:53 pm
  • Man, Sox fans come out of the woodwork like cockroaches around here after a Yankee loss.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:54 pm
  • Yes it it Walein, and you know it.

    Brad April 15, 2006, 10:54 pm
  • Man we should have won that.

    walein April 15, 2006, 10:54 pm
  • Career, no. Now, yep.

    Brad April 15, 2006, 10:55 pm
  • Brad has a good point there. I thought the same thing.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:56 pm
  • WE: I’ve been here all along.

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:56 pm
  • Ummm…Brad…it isn’t true.

    walein April 15, 2006, 10:57 pm
  • In the spirit of unity, I say both to Yankee and Red Sox fans (and Blue Jays fans, who lost today to, as if they’re going to be any better than third).
Today was a sucky day for both of us, let’s just call it a mulligan, shall we? Let’s both pretend that today just didn’t happen.

    Hunter April 15, 2006, 10:57 pm
  • I know matty.I wasn’t thinking of you.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 10:58 pm
  • I’m for that, Hunter. Tomorrow I’ll rip on y’all for losing a three in a row…

    mattymatty April 15, 2006, 10:59 pm
  • walein, If Mauer was still at first, he doesn’t score on Morneau’s single, and it’s tied. They would have had a chance to get out of the inning at 5-5. Anyway, it doesn’t matter now.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 11:01 pm
  • Okay Walein, We’ll agree to disagree, but neither are as good as Beckett right now. Choosing between the two is like choosing between getting hit by a truck or shot in the head. Both are going to suck.

    Brad April 15, 2006, 11:03 pm
  • I have to laugh. My neighbor, who’s a Twins fan just called. I’m taking a beatin’.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 11:04 pm
  • G’Night guys… Better luck all around tomorrow. And of course, by all around I mean in Boston.

    Brad April 15, 2006, 11:05 pm
  • Guess I’ll go to bed and lick my wounds.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 11:07 pm
  • walein, just for the record, I agreed with Brad on the Matsui should have thrown to second, not the Paps is better than Mo comment. Little too early to throw out THAT statement.

    whatever April 15, 2006, 11:19 pm
  • Papelbon:
5 for 5 in save opportunities
    6 strikeouts, 2 hits
    0.00 ERA
    Rivera:
1 for 2 in save opportunities
    3 strikeouts, 5 hits
    5.40 ERA

    Hudson April 16, 2006, 3:47 am
  • Hudson,
Were all of 11 games into the season.
If we can go by this does that mean that Chris Shelton, of the Tigers, who’s hitting .467, with 5 2B, 3 3B, 7 HR, and 15 RBIs is a better player than Manny Ramirez, who’s hitting .205, with NO extra base hits of any kind, and 2 RBIs?
You would be wise to wait until at least the All Star break to start throwing out wild declarations that this player is better than that player, etc. It’s a long season Hudson.

    whatever April 16, 2006, 9:52 am
  • Yes, for once I’m going to have to agree with WE. Mo is proven, and as much as I adore Pap and think he’s the best man for the job right now, you can’t just say he’s better than Mo. At this moment, he’s better, but WE (gasp!) brings up a good point with the Manny/Shelton comparison. We just don’t know yet. But I must say, it was very nice to wake up this morning and see that Yanks-Twins score, especially after how badly the Sox played yesterday.
