You Heard It Here First

The NYT reports today that Joe Girardi has indeed been offered Willie Randolph’s vacated bench coach spot, throwing the managerial line of succession into disarray—just as we had predicted in our recent “Willie & Mel” post. (Okay, it didn’t take Nostradamus-like powers to see it coming, but we’ll take what we can get.) The Times also reports that Mel’s departure is not certain. We sure hope so. Joe, Joe, Mel, & Donnie? We’ll take our chances with that braintrust.

  • Not a bad set of minds there. It’s the front office, especially the top of it, that should worry you.

  • Girardi would be a great addition. Has he accepted? You gotta figure Girardi will manage a team in the not so distant future, so what better place to develop his chops than under Torre?

  • Actually as long as Mattingly is involved with the team, you’re going to be wishing for a World Series. You haven’t won one with him yet.
