  • Porcello to the Yankees, come think good thoughts!!!

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 2:43 pm
  • Porcello or LaPorta is what we’re aiming for. Right?

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 2:46 pm
  • Jim Callis reminds me so much of Edward Norton in Fight Club. It’s fascinating.

    Andrew June 7, 2007, 2:47 pm
  • LaPorta is off the board as the Brewers take him early. Doh!

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 2:48 pm

sorry trisk. brewers just took laporta with the sixth pick.

    sf rod June 7, 2007, 2:49 pm
  • Everyone seems to agree that this is a surprising pick.

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 2:52 pm
  • Rockies pick casey weathers

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 2:53 pm
  • Not sure why Brewers take LaPorta when they’ve got Fielder. But they say don’t draft for need in MLB.

    YF June 7, 2007, 2:53 pm
  • Damn you Brewers! Where the hell is LaPorta, a college senior, going to fit on your team?
Rockies take someone I know nothing about, except he’s also from Vanderbilt.

    Andrew June 7, 2007, 2:54 pm
  • speculation that they could use him as trade bait next year.

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 2:54 pm
  • at the same time people are predicting a short peak for the overweight Prince Fielder. Perhaps, he becomes trade bait in the future right before his arbitration-eligible years run out?

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 2:56 pm
  • LaPorta to the Brewers, surprising. But him going that early isn’t. They have been saying all along that he is a HIGH 1st Round talent, just could be difficult to sign him.

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 2:57 pm
  • Porcello is still on the board.
    D-Backs pick Parker.

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 2:59 pm
  • Good thoughts gentlemen, if we all wish for it we stand a chance. This kind is just that good. It would be a blessing!

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 3:00 pm
  • I worry about the Giants taking Porcello. Them and the Tigers.

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 3:01 pm
  • So if the Yankees don’t get Porcello, who’s good that’s left?

    Andrew June 7, 2007, 3:02 pm
  • Yeah it’s a long shot, but a guy can dream…LOL

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 3:02 pm
  • one of the things I find interesting about the ESPN coverage of this is how restrained and relaxed it is compared to the NFL draft. None of the commentators are over-talking. It’s nice.

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 3:04 pm
  • Bumgarner–best name so far.

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 3:05 pm
  • Let’s see where Frazier from Rutgers goes, another NJ guy.

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 3:09 pm
  • Ahhhh the Canadian is off the board.

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 3:10 pm
  • went and saw vitters last high school game (not a stalker, so cal just has a ton talent right now and the game was 3 min from my doorstep). more scouts than parents at the game. he’s solid, but is gonna need to spend some time in the gym or hit a growth spurt.

    sf rod June 7, 2007, 3:10 pm
  • Top HS hitter in the draft, pretty cool that you got to see him. That’s the one part of NJ baseball that lacks, top tier hitters. We have some kids that will go late, but no top tier talent as hitters.

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 3:12 pm
  • I think Brad Mills son just went…

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 3:22 pm
  • a ground hog just got selected. this means several long winters for the reds.

    sf rod June 7, 2007, 3:32 pm
  • “I think Brad Mills son just went…”
Yep, confirmed here. Looks like he posted some sick numbers in college…wow. “.458/.556/1.033, with 38 homers, 22 doubles, 123 RBI, 43 walks, and 22 strikeouts in just 240 at-bats…”

    Scott SF June 7, 2007, 3:34 pm
  • Yeah SHOCKER Peter “I’m not a big homer” Gammons said Mills son was the best pure power hitter in the draft. Just once I want to hear Peter say something that is related to the Sox is bad or AVERAGE! LOL

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 3:39 pm
  • No game thread for Sox-A’s?

    yankeemonkey June 7, 2007, 3:41 pm
  • trisk- gammons doesn’t think clemens will work out. that’s talking bad on a related sock….right?

    sf rod June 7, 2007, 3:45 pm
  • LOL Rod, yeah that’s about as close as it gets.

    John - YF (Trisk) June 7, 2007, 3:47 pm
  • sox up 1 – 0 on ortiz’s 11th homer in the first.

    sf rod June 7, 2007, 3:47 pm
  • according to selig the loss angullys dodgers have made a selection. i’m not familure with that team.

    sf rod June 7, 2007, 4:00 pm
  • The Tigers are on the clock. Will they take Porcello? The big question of the moment…

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 4:33 pm
  • The Tigers are on the clock. Will they take Porcello? The big question of the moment…

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 4:33 pm
  • crap
    they do.

    Nick-YF June 7, 2007, 4:36 pm
  • Damn! Why do our Yankees have to be so good that they draft last all the time?

    AndrewYF June 7, 2007, 4:50 pm
  • please tell me that wendell fairley plays while wearing a monocle… with a single flip down shade…

Yankee Fan In Boston June 7, 2007, 4:52 pm
  • yanks took a kid with elbow problems. has injuries become an organizational philosophy for the yanks?

    sf rod June 7, 2007, 4:59 pm
  • The Yankees also took a kid who’s almost 7 feet tall and can throw 99 mph when healthy.
His elbow problems are completely fixable with TJ surgery. Shoulder problems you don’t really recover from.
But the Yankees, in the very near future, might set a record of major leaguers on their roster who’ve had TJ surgery, starting with guys like Sanchez, Melancon and Horne.
I kinda still wish he took Harvey. Now the Mets will get him.

    AndrewYF June 7, 2007, 5:11 pm
  • I went to Fitch High, and Harvey (senior), or Hawk as he’s called, is a great baseball coach. That kid was good when he was 12, much less now.

    Regular_Brad. June 7, 2007, 5:30 pm
  • I grew up in Mystic.

    Regular_Brad. June 7, 2007, 5:31 pm
  • Actually 30th selection marks the lowest the Yankees ever had for their first draft selection.
