Your Delta Tau Chi Nickname is…

I ask for a moratorium on calling Alex Gonzalez "A-Gon", or "A-Go", or anything with "A-" in the nickname.  There’s only one guy who deserves that, and it’s that Rod down in New York.

So, any suggestions for our new shortstop?  ("Steroid Boy" is already taken, YF, coincidentally also by a Yankee…)

  • I’m guessing “Gonzo” will appeal to SF. As in, “If you boot two balls before May, you’re….”

  • How about “temp”?

  • Why is the letter A so special… he’s been A-Gon for a while, and it fits for Latinos with the whole first initial of first name last syl-abble of last name thing that was started half a decade ago. A-Rod is a queen, so if anything, the A relativity is a negativity. Don’t get hung up.

  • On my site today, I have done a preview/look at the AL East hitter. I have made projections for many of the players, at least one from each position for each team. If you have a minute, please take a look at it at http://www.SethSpeaks.net.
    thanks,
    Seth

  • Thanks, Seth. That’s interesting work, but let’s try to keep the thread on topic here.

    YF February 1, 2006, 10:28 am
  • Seth is absolutely bullish on Giambi. I like it. Seems he’s projected to put up similar numbers to Manny. Makes you wonder if Seth was trying to stir the pot.

  • How about Alex “Get Tejada NOW!” Gonzalez?

  • How about Alex “I-Love-My-Agent” Gonzalez?

    walein February 1, 2006, 12:35 pm
  • Why would he love his agent? The Sox reserve the right to cut Gonzo right up to opening day and only owe him 500,000$ Actually EEI is reporting this morning that the Sox can cut him all the way up to April 15 and pay a pro-rated salary to him for time served.
For a guy who said he was seeking 5mill/year and got 3mill for one year, and even that’s not guaranteed – I’d say he’s not really all that happy with his agent.
This goes right along with my thoughts the entire time – The Red Sox are not done moving people just yet. Just a hunch, so don’t attack me for making baseless claims.
Also, is Seth really Jason Giambi? Or, perhaps Seth is John. Either way, I stopped reading at that point.

    Brad February 1, 2006, 1:06 pm
  • So, let me get this straight Seth: The Red Sox are not going to have a SINGLE person hit for a .300 average this year? Manny is suddenly going to drop that much? Why? Just your guess? Just a hunch you have? Meanwhile, .75 of the Yankees staring lineup will be hitting over said average? Yeah, I suppose you are absolutely correct. In fact, I’d be surprised if Manny, Varitek, Nixon, OR Crisp even come close to hitting like, say, Robinson Cano.
Spare me your blinder riddled projections. From the looks of it, the Red Sox have one of the worst linups in the leauge, and suddenly there are 15 better hitter in the AL East than Manny when it comes to average. Seth, one of the great things about Manny is just that. He has ALWAYS hit to all fields for average in combination with the HR’s and OPS.

    Brad February 1, 2006, 1:17 pm
  • As far as I can tell Seth’s a Twin fan. That’s about as objective it gets in relation this rivalry. Brad, it’s time for you to deal with reality.

  • Alex “If Cashman Had Picked Me Up Then He Wouldn’t Have Gotten Any Credit Because He’s A Two-Bit Flunky” Gonzalez?
    Too cumbersome?

    SF February 1, 2006, 1:58 pm
  • How about Gonz-glove, or GG. He will flash the leather , and he’ll do it really soon.

  • I dont know, but i hate how The Yankees have to have a nickname for everyone on their team, There a bunch of f***ing losers who have to nickname their players so they get more print in the papers, losers!!!!!!

    Anonymous February 1, 2006, 3:19 pm
  • I like Alex “Whiffle Bat” Gonzalez, personally because if this guy has an OPS over .600 I am going to eat my hat.
Or better yet, how about Alex “T-Ball” Gonzalez, because the only way he is going to get a hit against Yankees pitchers is if he uses a T-Ball T.

    Joe February 1, 2006, 5:52 pm
  • Well Brad, I wanted to be paid 5 dollars for everytime I posted on this site and my agent was able to get me 0 dollars, but that has more to do with the fact that SF & YF were offering to charge me $5 everytime I posted…so, my agent did pretty well.

    walein February 1, 2006, 5:59 pm
  • How about Groid?

    walein February 1, 2006, 6:07 pm
  • I know. I’m sorry. I’ll send that money to you right away.

    walein February 1, 2006, 6:07 pm
  • Okay, so between Joe and the annonymous (I’m assuming) Sox fan, each side of the rivalry has been poorly represented in this thread. I really, really hate people. In general. not just those two, but they made me kind of mad.
PS Ever go on Sox sites anon? We have nicknames for a lot of our guys too, duh.

    Laura February 1, 2006, 6:44 pm
  • Hey, thanks Laura, always glad to help. I notice you didn’t even try, so keep up the great effort and don’t feel too bad when Whiffle Bat T-Ball breaks your heart at a critical point in a game.

    Joe February 1, 2006, 7:55 pm
  • Joe–I frequently comment on this site and others, but only if I have something to add to the discussion. I couldn’t come up with anything worth posting on this thread. I don’t like to make my own personal nicknames for players until the season starts. It just bugs me when people say rude things about other teams. It’s what gives Sox fans a bad rep, and, honestly, I had never talked to a Yanks fan online who had anything reasonable to say until I started visiting this site. Guys like YF, Nick, Spidey, and even to some extent John, when he’s not being irrational, don’t deserve to be grouped in with the likes of you, at least from what I’ve seen here. As for Gonzalez, I’m well aware of his limited hitting abilities, so I’m not expecting anything too huge from him at the plate this year, but I hope that your heart isn’t broken when one of the Yanks grounds into a game-ending double play highlighted by an excellent defensive move from Gonzalez this season. Anyway, maybe I was harsh in my first comment, but my point is basically that if you don’t have anything worthy to contribute, don’t say anything at all.

    Laura February 1, 2006, 8:47 pm
  • It was a joke, Laura. You need to get a sense of humor. Or maybe you are a bit touchy because you think what I wrote is true?
Either way, go have a drink, calm down, and count the days until pitchers and catchers.

    Joe February 2, 2006, 12:18 am
  • Nick,
I have definitely bookmarked the spot and place where you said I need to be realistic about the chances of a Sox player hitting for average.
There is no way I’m not throwing that back on the boards a few months from now.

    Brad February 2, 2006, 1:25 am
  • Joe-
1.I’m fifteen and therefore am not old enough to drink.
2.It was a mean spirited joke. And it wasn’t funny.
3.Maybe I took it badly. I had a long day yesterday (do you remember high school??) and maybe I was a little tough on you. I’m sticking to my point though. It still bothers me that people are badmouthing each others’ teams without actually saying anything of substance. My first comment was actually directed more at the anonymous Sox fan than you, but you responded to me and I got kind of mad. And I stick by what I said about Gaonzalez.
4.SF–what is the point of this thread? As Joe so kindly pointed out, I haven’t contributed to the nickname discussion. Shouldn’t we at least see the guy play before we give him a nickname? Or is this just for humor purposes? Because this at least made me laugh, even if it seems to ba a pointless exercise.

    Laura February 2, 2006, 6:31 am
  • The thread was meant for a little fun, that’s all. (Animal House reference, a dig at A-Rod, what’s not fun about that!?).
    Everyone needs to chill…

    SF February 2, 2006, 7:00 am
  • Bradley, I was just joshing. I like Seth’s projections because they favor my team, but I’m not sure they’re accurate. In general, I find the projection systems out there fun, but I don’t put too much stock in them.

    Nick February 2, 2006, 7:54 am
  • He’s not gonna be on the team long enough to require a nickname. If anything, his provisional nickname should be “Jake.” As in “Jake and the Fat Man.” Because he and Wells are teaming up as trade bait for O-Cab.

    pstar February 2, 2006, 10:54 am
  • Wow, Nickalaus. Did I just get the Bradley? I’ll guess I’ll go to my room! hahah.
Of course, I had to throw the “hahah” in because it seems our newcomers have gotten out of control today.
Smile folks, it nearly fifty degrees on Feb 02 (unless of course, you live on Zeptar 12 with John),..

    Brad February 2, 2006, 2:59 pm
  • Ah, man, apparently I beat up on a teenager. Now I feel lower than 15 myself. And I mean inches.
Let’s see what the season brings. It’s all well and good to predict, but the facts will speak for themselves, starting in 58 days.
    My apologies, Laura.

    Joe February 2, 2006, 11:05 pm
  • I’m trying to come up with a movie pun here… Manny & Alexander? Too obscure.
