A Crick In Your Neckett: Halos-Sox Gamer I

Josh Beckett has been scratched tonight due to a stiff neck, and David Pauley gets the emergency start. Pauley saw action as a starter in Boston in 2006, the results of which are best left buried in history. In three starts in Pawtucket this year, Pauley was 1-1 with 2 earned, 8 ks, and 3 walks in 15 and a third. Beckett is ailing from the same bug that bit Tek, and Amalie Benjamin reports that if Tek isn’t available and should something unfortunate befall Kevin Cash, Dustin Pedroia has volunteered as the emergency backup catcher.

Jered Weaver takes the mound for the AL West-leading Halos and was knocked around in his last two starts against the Royals and the Mariners. Game time is in one hour, lineups follow, comment away.

    TJ April 22, 2008, 6:51 pm
  • That would pretty much turn around a so far crappy day.

  • I just got in and see PAULEY is pitching? Beckett with a stiff neck? how bad is this?!!! AHHHH PANIC!

    Dionysus April 22, 2008, 7:29 pm
  • Not too bad so far Dio, but it’s only the first inning.

    rootbeerfloat April 22, 2008, 7:32 pm
  • I meant Becketts neck rbf. He’s not going on the DL again is he? I will have to hurl myself out my window.

    Dionysus April 22, 2008, 7:33 pm
  • WTF I feel the same way Dio, I did a double take when I saw him pitching instead. Wow, Youk just made a great play.
Pedroia as a catcher? HEHE that’s a funny mental image.

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 7:34 pm
  • That was a nice quick inning.

    Dionysus April 22, 2008, 7:35 pm
  • I almost WANT to see Pedroia as catcher, but only if we mic him so we can hear what he’d say to distract teh hitter – because you KNOW he’d talk and you KNOW it’d be hilarious.

    Dionysus April 22, 2008, 7:36 pm
  • OMG, I want to see Pedroia at catcher. Best part: he wouldn’t even have to squat back there!

    yankeemonkey April 22, 2008, 7:47 pm

Pedroia keeps it going with a single.

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 9:13 pm
  • Ellsbury has split center field with Coco, and still has 50% more homeruns than Ortiz.

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 9:14 pm
  • I thought Jacoby doesn’t have power? BWAHAHA

    Dionysus April 22, 2008, 9:16 pm

Ugh, two on and no outs. Why is Tavarez still out there?

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 9:23 pm
  • Tavarez shoudla been pulled right after figgins got on. *grumbles*

    Dionysus April 22, 2008, 9:24 pm

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 9:24 pm

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 9:51 pm

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 9:53 pm
  • GODDAMNIT, Okajima gives away the lead.

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 9:55 pm

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 10:12 pm

Nope, 2-0 count to Pedroia. Jacoby still on first. PLEASE steal now.

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 10:13 pm
  • Why isn’t Jacoby on 2nd base right now?

    Atheose April 22, 2008, 10:13 pm
  • Hello all… Exciting game we got going. Sad the Sox could easily have seven runs, just if Guerrerro doesn’t become superman and the ump makes a correct call… Them’s the breaks.Dinger from Pedroia would be nice. :-)

    Paul SF April 22, 2008, 10:14 pm

This, Nation, is your Farm at work.

    Dionysus April 22, 2008, 10:33 pm
  • it’s probably time to add jed to that list too. don’t forget clay and mdc. masterson is coming soon. oh it’s good to be young.

    sf rod April 22, 2008, 11:35 pm
  • I was mostly just refering to the Farm’s contributions to this particular game, sf rod.
But, yes, MDC, Clay and even Lester (who’s improving) deserve to be on the list.
Lowrie I wont add until he gets a bit more playing time. As for Masterson, he sure looks good right now.. so does Hansen.. even Bard is shaping up as a releiver. And then we’ll get guys liek Anderson, Kalish, Hagadone.. goody goody gumdrops!
Anyoen remember when our farm was one of the worst, most desolate tracts in the game? Yeah. Theo rules.

    Dionysus April 22, 2008, 11:43 pm
  • Nine total bases for Jacoby Ellsbury tonight.
Seriously, has there been a Sox rookie with this much electricity since Fred Lynn?

    Hudson April 22, 2008, 11:50 pm
  • I can’t believe we won that game.

    Jackie (SF) April 23, 2008, 1:35 am
  • Jacoby’s speed changes ballgames. When he was on first base late in the game Pedroia got to a 2-0 count thanks to the pitcher trying to hard to keep Ellsbury off 2nd base. Having him on base in front of the heavy hitters is going to be a joy to see for years to come.
Also, Pedroia and Ellsbury went 7 for 10. Seven hits from the two guys batting in front of Ortiz and Manny. It’s tough to lose ballgames when that happens, even when your ace pitcher gets scratched at the last minute.

    Atheose April 23, 2008, 8:25 am
  • By the way, it’s a damn shame Okajima gets a Blown Save for his solo homerun given up in the 8th, especially after he got out of that horrible situation in the 7th.
