Curt Schilling goes for win No. 7, and the Sox go for win No. 2 (on the day, of course). A great win by the bats and Josh Beckett this afternoon. Let’s hope the sweep is just as easy, breezy in the Windy City. Sorry for the brevity, but it is Frday night, after all.
Comment away!
This ump is already inconsistent as hell–Curt’s first two pitches were called balls, despite being better than the 2 strikes called to Lugo.
Good to see Pedroia in the lineup. Did anyone else see the stat how Lowell is batting .451 in 15 games when hitting in the 5 spot? Beautiful stuff.
What was Manny jumping at
Curt looks like he has a fresh haircut.
The foul ball… was about 1/2 a foot away from snagging it. The foul was a yard away from hitting the foul-pole.
Schilling K’s him up, 2 down. He hit 92 on the radar gun.
No Yanks/Bengals thread tonight?
This ump is a dick–Curt has a COMPLETELY different strike zone than Danks.
I knew it was the foul ball. Seemed to me that it was something he had no chance at.
Schill gives up the two out double.
Erstad doubles on a ball that looked foul. No camera had a good view of it though.
Curt with the backwards K.
Definately a choice filled evening. Pats are on here in NC against the Panthers.
We’re not watching a lot of pitches. Lowell crushes a 2-0 pitch but it’s 15 feet short. 15 pitches, 5 outs for Danks.
Youk with a liner past third.
Youk continuing to bring his A-game today, 3 for 3 on the day. Kielty flies out to right field on the first pitch, however.
Danks is making quick work of the lineup. This is what I feared at the end of game 1 when we started putting all of the extra runs on the board. It makes me feel like we will be struggling for runs this game.
Juan Uribe takes a 1-0 lead. And Schilling was looking so good…
Gonzalez slips a single past Lugo’s glove, but even if he caught it he would have been safe.
Schilling is throwing first-pitch strikes, getting ahead in the count. Toby Hall flies out to end the inning.
The WGN announcers are annoying.
Danks making quick work of us again. This game may only last an hour at this rate.
Seems that Schilling is having a hard time with the batters this inning. Having to throw a lot of pitches after he has gotten two strikes. The hitters have done a good job of fouling off pitches.
One-run deficits seem enormous with this lineup sometimes — probably because, as the Globe reported this morning, the Sox are among the league losers in homers this month.
Schilling at 51 pitches, 38 for strikes.
We have definately appeared to transform into a small ball team. We do not hit homeruns often.
Yeah, he’s not making it into the seventh. Really this season, he seems to be no better than a more affordable version of Roger Clemens…
I agree Paul. Schill appears to be an average pitcher this year. You can tell that he is old, consistency has become an issue with him.
Pedroia with a leadoff walk to start the 4th.
Holy cow. Papi takes the first shot to right field to give us a 2-1 lead.
Cather sat up inside and Papi just truned on that.
Manny almost takes a ball for a ride down the right field line.
Manny with a ropy back up the middle to single.
Still no outs.
hey rob try this found it a couple days ago… you gotta go to sopcast.com and download the program for it to work but u can get the nesn broadcast http://livefooty.doctor-serv.com/American_Sports.html the sox game is on the channel 8 link
Danks is starting to miss his marks.
Cool TJ..I will see what it give me.
Lowell doubles to left center, Manny comes all the way around from 1st to score.
3-1
its great rob its the first time i can watch 2 games in the same month let alone the same day :)
Holy crap Lowell is an RBI machine, playing Manny from 1st.
Crisp with an RBI double. 4-1
Floyd coming in to pitch.
God Bless Coco! He knocked Danks out of the game!
im surpised he came out considering the low pitch count…
Cash singles to right, throwing error by Dye allows Cash to advance to 2nd. Another run scores.
5-1
Cash gets his first Sox hit, scoring Kielty and sending Crisp to 3rd. 5-1 Red Sox.
Lugo pops out to short.
DPod up…10th batter of the innning.
Pedroia grounds out to 2nd.
Inning over
pretty weak first hit by Cash…
on a side note, i love that line in Major League where Bob Euker is talking about Dorn and says something to teh effect of, “he’s hitless tonight but has(dripping with contempt) several foul tips…”
That was a good line in the movie Ric.
Nice inning by Schill coming off the long sit.
Papi going off tonight!! 1st pitch AGAIN tonight to deep center field.
Manny walks
Lowell definately seems more comfortable hitting 5th than Drew.
Lowell walks. 1st and 2nd, no outs.
YOOOOOOUUUUUUUUKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3-Run BOMB!!
9-1
This game is officially over. I think it’s time to give Gagne some practice!
I believe that Youk also hit that on the 1st pitch.
Kielty tries to play the game and pops out.
The ChiSox finally get an out.
The WGN announcers are saying the pitchers are not getting enough pitches over the plate.
Perhaps they haven’t noticed, but the pitches that have been killed have been pretty decent sized meatballs. The only one that really wasn’t was Papi’s first shot which was an inside pitch he turned on.
Lowell should have been in the 5 spot all season, his average is above .500 now when hitting there I think.
This game is officially over. I think it’s time to give Gagne some practice!
Please don’t poke the sleeping baseball Gods. Please?
Lowell definately is a better protection piece than Drew.
I agree SF..
Perhaps we are starting to turn the corner and putting the hitting together finally.
>>Lowell definately is a better protection piece than Drew.
I should note that it appears to be the case this season. If Drew were hitting for his normal numbers it may be the other way around.
it aint over til its over. lets just win and make thay magic number smaller.
Curt at 81 pitches.
Papi slaps a ball just left of 2nd for single beating the shift. Big guy is definately hot tonight.
Manny grounds into a DP to end the inning
I am willing to bet that Drew will be applauded for big hits in the coming months.
Hinske now in left field
I sure hope so SF. I keep waiting for him to break out of his funk. I really like the guy, just has been real frustrating to watch him.
Pats up 17-7
Brady looks pretty sharp tonight.
>>If Drew were hitting for his normal numbers it may be the other way around.
You mean hitting .284, with 21 HR and 62 RBI? Those are Drew’s career averages, and Lowell well ahead of two of them, and is on pace to hit more than 21 HR.
12 batters retired in a row with Schilling issuing a 2 out walk.
In my ignorance, I honestly thought that Drew averaged more RBI’s.
Cool, Sox 20 Chisox 4 so far for the day… (Who do they think they are, Texas?)
MDC warming up.
Lowell is the MVP of the Sox, offensively, so far this year if you ask me. Not that anyone did. Oki is the surprise star of the pitching staff, but there are many impressive contributors (Wakes, Beckett, Paps at the top of my list along with Hideki).
I think if Drew were closer to his averages he would increas in RBIs due to hitting behind Papi and Manny.
I think that is a fair assessment Hudson. Lowell seemed to be the only one who has stayed consistent all season long, and was really at times the only person to drive in runs.
I think you’re right Rob, but I also think he’s lacking power more than anything. His .261 average isn’t bad, but he’s just not hitting the ball hard. He’s hitting .328 this month, but has just 6 extra-base-hits (4 doubles and 2 triples) and 5 RBI’s.
I honestly think that Drew’s shoulder is not 100%.
MDC in now to pitch.
Solid night by Schilling with only one mistake in the pitch to Uribe.
Schilling at 98 pitches, going out for the 7th. If he can get through this inning he’ll have an extremely attractive game line.
Schilling’s fastball is back up to it’s normal speeds (he hit 93 on the radar gun in the 4th) and his splitter is splitting. This is the Schilling we’ve missed all year.
Nevermind, Gameday shows Schill still in the game, even though MDC is clearly the pitcher on mlb.tv. The Gameday people have been sleeping on the job today.
Uribe lines out to Pedroia, Pedroia throws to 1st to double up Dye.
according to Gamecast, Schillis at 109 pitches… dude, id be fired from my job for such incompetence.
B7th over
9-1 still

Re: Blowout wins

We hope you have not used up your runs for the weekend all in one day.

theyve calculated his era to 7 innings and everything…
Just showed that Cash was hitting .174 at Pawtucket.
He promptly doubles down the third base line.
>>We hope you have not used up your runs for the weekend all in one day.
There have been times this year when 20 runs was good week.
Cash stranded on 2nd. Top of the 8th over.
Snyder in….
8th inning over, Snyder issued a walk, runner was stranded on 1st.
Hinske doubles to right, Papi in to 3rd. No outs.
Top of the 9th.
Another pitching change by the ChiSox
MacDougal pitching for Chi.
Lowell singles up the middle. Drives in Papi, his 90th RBI on the season.
Youk grounds to 3rd, Hinske held at third, Lowell out at 2nd. Youk beats throw to 1st. One out.
Kielty strikes out. 2 down.
Crisp strikes out on a nasty breaking ball to end the inning.
10-1
espn boxscore still has schilling at 7.0 innings
2 down
Gagne getting some work tonight. Maybe help his game out a little bit.
Gagne allows a 2 out single by Dye.
Aaaaaand Gagne refuses to give Boston a 1-2-3 inning. At least this game is well past reach of him blowing it.
Sox magic number headed down below 30… Although Gagme just allowed a 2-out hit and a 10-run comeback is not out of the question.
gagne with a K to end it. Magic number is now at 29 pending the outcome of the Yanks game.
Ahhhh, EGag gets the K for the last out.
Nice job by the B-listers in the pen (3 innings of shutout relief) following a quality start by CSch.
Doesn’t look like the Yankees are going to play… No?
Appears that the power is starting to return for Papi. Hopefully we build on this tomorrow and the offense keeps hitting. Would be nice to be pinging on all cylinders prior to our series with you know who.
Gagne has been looking VERY good lately, despite everything. I think he’s coming around.
Well after over a 4 hour rain delay, we are about to get going in Detroit. Michael Kay is bashing the MLB for going ahead with the game – saying the umpires must have had an agenda in doing this because kids at the game have been sitting for 4 hours and will now be going home at 2am or later. Leiter is agreeing with him. I think they’re pissed they had to stick around more than anything.
Game should get started in 5-10 minutes.
With Sox rolling and Mariners looking to win, this game is very big…of course, they all are and have been for the Yanks for 2 months now.
If a thread is started on the Yanks game, I’ll be happy to provide updates…though I imagine I may be commenting to myself tonight.
Eck is the best analyst ever… A Three-Run Johnson?!
Damon on 1st after hitting a hot shot off a drawn in Inge at 3rd
Melky batting second since Abreu is out so Jeter batting third. Shelly Duncan getting start in right tonight…should be interesting. Gotta believe 4 hour delay for 45 year old Clemens has got to hurt.
Yanks game underway
Whoa…Melky chops to a charging Polanco who can’t get to Damon (who paused on way to second) so he threw to first but it pulled the 1st baseman off the bag so Damon safe at scond, Melky on first, Jeter up with no outs, but…more importantly, Polanco’s record 147 straight error-less games is over.
This may the latest Clemens has stayed awake this season.
Jeter bounces into what should have been double play but Inge dropped the ball – evntually gets Damon at third but not in time to then get Jeter at first. Really sloppy play early here. 4 hours on the pine doesn’t help I’m sure. A-Rod up, one out two on.
A-Rod is usually watching pole-dancers by now…
2-0 to A-Rod
Damn – tried the double steal but Pudge nailed Melky at third. Perfect throw.
MIller almost hit A-Rod in the crotch with a fastball. That would have had him down for a veeerrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy long time if it was an inch closer.
A-Rod grounds out.
Well, unless a thread gets started or someone joins up here soon, I may have to abandon my post and watch the game without the laptop.
I can’t believe this game got started tonight. I’m glad though, because I want to see Beckett vs Roger on Wednesday.
Unsuccessful double-steal, Melky out at 3rd. A-Rod grounds out to first, no damage.
STATISTIC OF THE NIGHT: ARod almost has as many homeruns (42) as JD Drew has RBI’s (45)
Leiter notes that Clemens has not won consecutive games against the same team since August 2002 (!).
Hey, welcome Atheose. I think stat of the night may be 4-hour delay, but the A-Rod stat is a close second.
Clemens gives up leadoff double to Granderson…I am seriously concerned re: Clemens with this delay.
Did you hear that lifetime BA for Sheffield on Clemens??!!?? .611 !! Too bad Sheffield isn’t in the lineup (thank you God).
2-Run dinger for Ordonez.
*fist pump*
grumble…
If it was Mussina who had to wait 4 hours he would have filed a lawsuit against the umps…and prosecuted the case himself. Clemens gets out of the inning but the 2 runs are in damnit
Yeah, Moose always has excuses. ARod should definitely come out and say that Moose isn’t carrying his weight on the team. Turnabout is fair play.
Matsui just got so lucky on that call – it was a strike. Leiter and Kay say the same
YEsssssss Andy!
Phillips halves the lead to 2-1 on a deep fly bacll to the right center field gap scoring Matsui from second. Inning over, Clemens shuffling to the mound
I love it – Channel 9 running a poll: If Mussina has another bad start, should he be pulled from the rotation?
I’ll take a mini poll right now of yankee fans on this thread:
The answer is YES!
Clemens K’s Pudge.
Kay and Leiter actually having a very interesting conversation off of footage of Guidry showing Mussina how to throw a slider (pretty good teacher for that) on whether you can teach an old pitcher, especially a creature of habit like Moose, new tricks. Leiter emphatically says yes and is talking about Glavine, Clemens, etc. and the pitches they picke dup late and how they continue to make small adjustments.
I normally don’t like Kay at all, but this is interesting.
And Clemens K’s Inge. The old man sure knows how to bear down.
Time to check out populated Yanks blogs…
I cant beleive this game is actually beign played. The Yanks musta bribed someone to keep them from ahving any DHs before the Sox series.
I put up a Yankees gamer for those interested.
