“Aces” Up: Sox-Yanks Gamer II

Jon Lester gets his fifth start of July today in Yankee Stadium and is in desperate need of a confidence boost. His first start of the month was against Oakland and was a well pitched game in a no-decision. Since then, he has had a truly tough month, culminating in his last start against Toronto — a four-inning outing — where his game score was negative three.

C.C. Sabathia gave up three runs over seven innings — two off the long ball — his last time out in a contest the Yankees lost against Oakland in extras. It’s FOX baseball beast time. Comment away.

yes, it’s true krueg…this is a direct result of player/owner greed getting in the way of what the folks who actually pay the bills, the fans, might want for coverage…fox pays big bucks to mlb for the privilege of f-ing with us every saturday…i understand the whole blackout concept, but it’s annoying after paying the satellite service $160 bucks that i can’t get the yankee game once fox decides which of the several games scheduled that they are going to air…we were doomed when the yankee game was delayed…no way fox is going to interrupt the cartoons they had scheduled [the simpsons] for us to see the late starting yankee/sox game…thanks again bpud…i blame you for this shi*…fox should give up baseball anyway…clearly they don’t really care about it…with them it’s all about football…the silver lining here is that i didn’t have to listen to macbuck all afternoon…

  • Teix takes Padilla deep to tie it in the 8th. Absolutely perfect. The fact that Padilla is on the Red Sox now is just a bonus. So happy to see Teix tag him again.

  • Pedro Ciriaco, Yankee-killer, gets an assist from Granderson.

  • Another failed comeback…

The Yankees are 0-1,000,000 when trailing in the last inning.

Because they are not champions. Champions find a way…at least once in a while.

  • Another failure.

This team is garbage, first round exit city.

  • So I admit it was nice to see them take one series from the Yankees this year at their house, but I do legitimately worry that LL will think this is some kind of turning point where somehow magically Lester and Beckett won’t pitch like crap going forward (even though Lester pretty much did just that early in the series, I think).

  • Pedro Ciriaco is apparently Ozzie Smith and Ty Cobb rolled into one when he faces the Yankees.

  • it’s hard to get too worked up over this series as a yankee fan…the yankees were a whisker away from a sweep but for granderson’s ballet dance on ciriaco’s fly ball in game 2, and ciriaco’s imitation of luis gonzalez in game 3…thems the breaks, and i could say the same thing about the falling down ump not actually seeing the bunt attempt/hbp coulda been another baserunner for the sox…i agree with devine that while the sox made some progress picking up a game on the yanks and a game in the wild card [i think], i’d hardly call it a turning point…yet anyway…they’re still miles away from showing that they’re anything other than a .500 team, with a very difficult schedule ahead of them…

  • With Ortiz back this week, I believe they’ll have their full line-up for the first time really all season. In my view, if Beckett and Lester get their s%*t together, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they make a run with more than 2 months to go here. They’re not that far out of the wildcard standings even if there are a number of teams in their way. I really don’t see them as a .500 team with the talent they have. Ellsbury, Crawford, Pedroia, Ortiz, Gonzalez makes for a superlative top half of the order even if Crawford remains a big question mark. I would never sleep on a team with that talent and I think they are at least as good as the WC teams they are chasing with the exception of the Angels.
