When they pitch they don’t hit, and when they hit they don’t pitch. That’s just the way it’s been for the Yanks this year. Last night they blew another classic outing from the Rocket and some fine pickup work from the pen, losing 2-1 in 13 to the Angels. Melky Cabrera K’ed 5 times, including one in the bottom of that final inning, with Miggy on 3rd and only 1 out. In the top half of the inning, a 2-base error from Miggy had allowed the Halos to assume the lead off Jose Vizcaino. Our Hero grounded weakly up the middle to end it. You can only be “clutch” so often. Anyway, we’re still wondering what Miggy is doing playing first base. This was a game where that, and the lack of a bench, killed.
The Yanks will look to make ammends today with the Wanger on the hill. He faces Ervin Santana. It hasn’t been a good week for Yankee hitters vs. guys named Santana, but maybe that changes today. We hope.
I think people are underrating the effect of Giambi’s injury on the Yanks. He’s a big loss. There are going to be games when A-Rod and Jeter and Jorge are not going to do it. Who’s going to pick up the slack.
But yes, this poorly constructed bench is killing us. It reflects poorly on Cashman but I still hope he stays at the helm.
keep hoping you guys cause that is all that you have right now.
Of course, the Santana home-away split doesn’t make any sense. But for another game I hope it holds up.
Holy shit! Michael Kay makes a point I agree with! Says Cano gets blamed for laziness because of his effortless style. No one was talking about it when he was playing well. I agree.
So ARod is now at 30 dingers and 86 RBIs. In 85 games. Boggle.
such a quiet day for such an impressive game. unfortunate.
Kotchman makes a nice catch falling into the stands.
Nice, Miggy. Single to left scores two more. ARod up. Two outs, first base empty, runners on second and third.
ARod takes the first pitch to the warning track in left center to end the seventh.
Pyro comes on for the eighth inning. Kay notes that he hasn’t allowed a run since torching his kit.
Ball game. Yanks blank the halOs.
Now no baseball for days. God I HATE the All-star break.
Did I mention that I hate the all-star game?
And the all-star break?
I am very thankful for the ASB. The last month and a half of average baseball the Sox have played leaves me looking forward to the days off, the lower stress interlude.
I don’t care for the game or the idiocy surrounding the determination of home field advantage, though.
