Last week we took a trip out to the ballfields in Red Hook, Brooklyn, to watch the local Mexican beisbol league in action. It was such a pleasant time, we decided to head back for more this Sunday. And so, with victories for the Yanks and Sox in the bank, SF and I, along with the SF Family, headed out for the Hook. Here’s some of what we saw (and tasted):

SF Junior sporting the colors. Kid’s got an arm. And he’s a lefty!

Swing batter, batter!

Lonely on the bench.

Temaxcalapa’s first base coach

Here comes the deuce….

Cover the bag!

Angel (or Carlos or Juan) in the outfield

Tough day at the office.

Calls for a snack. Here’s a taco.

And see you next week!
I saw some of one of their games a few weeks ago during a trip out to the food stands. It’s a really easy bike trip down from Park Slope, and the food and the environment are great. I hope we don’t lose this when Ikea opens and brings all of that traffic with it.
We had a truly fun time, thanks to YF for bringing a few mitts along. YF’s own glove appeared to be a truly vintage piece of equipment, circa 1950 or something. Isaac, my son, was not comfortable with the righthandedness of it. Time to start building arm strength! Paging Scott Boras!
Very cool YF. What a great day weather wise also, must have been awesome. NJ has some semi-pro teams, but nothing as colorful as what you show us above. Matter of fact one of the best semi-pro teams around has Bob Klapisch on it’s roster, many of you know him from ESPN.com.
SF if Isaac starts throwing some lefty heat give me a call, we could always use another hard throwing lefty at my HS. It’s not an awful bus ride from NY to NJ everyday! LOL. I am kidding, recruiting is against the rules.
Cool pics, YF.
From the looks of his shirt, it seems that young SF isn’t yet soiled by his father’s team allegiance… Yankee fan in the making???
Isaac hasn’t taken much interest in sports in general. But he sees Shea Stadium whenever we leave the city as we typically flee via the Whitestone Bridge, so I am hedging my position by talking about the Mets and how they are a New York team, in case he shows no interest in rooting for a team from a city in which he doesn’t live.
I can’t believe he’s that big since it doesn’t seem that long ago since the baby pictures you posted. Time goes so fast that you don’t even realize it.
He’s a big kid – at my waist (I am 6’1″) and not even three.
