Boston Math: When 406 = 1016

How do you jam a few more bodies into Fenway? Expand the .406 Club, according to the Red Sox. A proposed plan would bump seating from 606 to 816, with standing room for 200. (Those championship rings don’t come cheap!)

Says their application to the city: “The interim steps taken from 2002 to 2006….are part of an ongoing commitment to improve the fan experience and neighborhood presence while evaluating the long-term options for renovation and Fenway Park’s ultimate future.” (Our italics)

Hmm.

  • I hear the Sox are strong-arming the city into allowing them to move into a brand new stadium on the west side of Manhattan. Now THAT would be an ultimate future – the Sox in my own backyard!

  • Well, that might change some minds about Bloomie’s West Side Folly over at the NYT, but somehow I just don’t see Big Stein giving that one the Pinstripe seal of approval.

  • I still regret not going up to Boston and burning down Fenway the way I promised some friends before the ALCS. Shame on me.

  • At Yankee Stadium all one has to do is toss a match towards the oiled-up combover in Giuliani’s box and the whole place would go up in flames like a tinderbox. At Fenway, you’d have to do more work to get at the alcohol-infused lighter fluid that doubles as any random bleacher creature’s blood supply if you wanted to torch the place.
