“Annan Pledges Support for Cooperstown”

New York (AP) — Citing the continued inability of the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee to reach a satisfying and fair outcome in its balloting, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan pledged to send a team of monitors to oversee future elections and restore public confidence in the voting process. “We’ve been successful in Ukraine, Iraq, and Palestine, so we figure we can handle a few geriatric ballplayers,” said Annan. Yesterday the Hall announced that, in its second consecutive election, the Veterans Committee had failed to elect any from a pool of worthy candidates.

  • Actually, rumor is that Kofi has asked Jose Canseco to lead a team of “chemists” to Sub-Saharan Africa, where they will use growth hormones and compound anabolics to “pump up” emaciated children. Then Jose flies to Iran with a nuclear inspection group, on which he will serve as an expert consultant based on his own experiences evading detection while increasing offensive power.
