Vulturesturtle

They’re everywhere, picking apart the corpse of another season

Question: Who is next to play the part of the turtle?

  • That’s a “good looking” turtle there. (hint)

  • …ok, we get the symbolism…off to the side and out of camera range, so not making it in the picture are 2 other animals just as unlucky as the turtle…they are a rare breed of goat [goatus scapeadus]…the names of these poor unfortunate critters were “wallace” and “jackson”…

  • Joe Turtle?
The NY Daily News reports that George Steinbrenner is determined to fire Torre and replace him with Lou Piniella — unless Torre resigns first or Cashman can somehow convince Steinbrenner to change his mind.

As a Sox fan –fully embracing the schadenfreude that my season has been reduced to — I have to say firing Torre and replacing with LOU PINIELLA of all people makes me very, very happy.

  • Peter Abraham gives a little insight as a Yanks’ beat writer http://www.lohud.com/blogs/2006/10/torre-getting-fired.html
    * The Yankees become A-Rod’s team, not Jeter’s. Piniella is an A-Rod guy and if he is the new manager, A-Rod won’t be going anywhere. Jeter, Posada, Bernie and Mariano would be furious.
    * Brian Cashman is a figurehead and George Steinbrenner and his toadies still run the show.
    * The coaching staff will change dramatically. I’m not sure Mattingly and Guidry would stay or whether Piniella would even want them.
    Here’s rooting for Lou!

  • Wow, I knew the hand-wringing would commence en masse today, but this is brutal. I suppose the fact that the Yanks have failed to win a post-season series since the 2004 collapse isn’t sitting too well with folks in the Yankee camp.

  • …paul, i can’t disagree…you got to believe that major changes are in store for the yankees…i think bernie’s gone anyway, but i’m not sure that jeter, posada, and mariano will react negatively to lou…they are classier guys than that…i think they may silently stew a bit because of loyalty to torre, but with those guys the team comes first….however, if arod starts feeling like he’s king-s— because of lou or not, that will cause some issues…
…i’m not sure how lou will handle the coaches…remember that he was a teammate of guidry’s, although i don’t know how much that will weigh in any decisions…
…finally, i agree with you that george still runs the team…cashman works hard to politic with other gm’s, but we all know that george makes any final decisions…
