Chase the Raynbow (I’m sorry): Sox-O’s Gamer II

The Sox are a game back of TB as of the Yankees’ 1-0 loss to the Rays. (Can’t even enjoy it when they lose, tsk tsk.) Today it’s Dempster (watching this guy pitch usually kind of sucks, but he has several good outings a year with tons of K’s) vs. Scott “not Corey” Feldman…who has been a bit better this year than his previous MLB track record. More East beasts battering one another at 7 ET/4 PT.

  • Nick Cafardo, a fucking moron, is talking about the Red Sox needing a bat and Michael Young possibly being the answer. Michael Young is 36, slashing .278/.344/.404 and an infielder. While that is not awful, where is he playing when he comes here? Taking starts from who? Drew, I guess? The OPS doesn’t shift much. Moronic idea.

  • Drew pops one…out of the ballpark to right for 3 runs! A great 2-out rally. 4-0 Sox.

  • Dempster gives up three straight singles to start the 5th. Then corners and none out, he K’s McLouth and gets a DP off Machado (who he K’d before that if the ump weren’t blind). FRICKEN AWESOME.

    4-1 Sox after 5.

  • I’m excited to see the playoff race between the Sox and Rays. It’s all I have to work with.

  • Drew bops another one out, this time for 2 runs. 6-1 Sox.

  • 6-2 after Dempster leaves at 6-1 with runners corners 1 out. Breslow gets the next two, but the runner at 3rd comes in on the forceout/would-be DP for out #2.

  • As for the playoff race, gerb, count me slightly pessimistic on the Sox’ long-term chances against TB/BAL (especially TB) pitching. If Buchholz is back and awesome as ever this season, then now we’re talking.

But still…just incredibly happy to be here, in 2nd place and close, given expectations. I doubt I’ll be able to say the same if they end up in the play-in game and lose.
