It's not every day it's your birthday. It's not every day you hit a homer in a major league baseball game. So it's more than a little special when you combine the two.
Congratulations to Eduardo Nunez on a once-in-a-lifetime moment! Happy 24th!

The best thing that could happen is Nunez has a solid two weeks and the team scores a bunch of runs. The Yankees need a new leadoff hitter at the very least. Jeter has been awful AND he’s getting by far the most plate appearances. Gardner is the perfect leadoff guy. If anything, swap him and Jeter and see if Jeter can do more with seeing more fastballs.
Apparently there are ‘rumblings’ that a lineup change is indeed coming for Jeter.
Hopefully Nunez has a representative two weeks and then they trade him…for something.
If they trade Nunez, they’re relying on Pena. And he’s worse.
I fear it’s big money on Reyes this off-season.

Jeter to DH?
Please forget Reyes. Please.
Or Jeter to retire. I think it depends how the second half goes for him.
On Reyes, he’s not great, but he’s very good and young. It’s not my money and he’s shown he can deal with NYC. A 4 or 5 year deal would be perfect.
If there were better options, I’d be all for them. Who is better and as easily available this off-season?
Does Jose Reyes pitch? If so, let’s sign him! Pitching should be the focus, not offense.
Nunez has been solid…no doubt. Will we see enough in 2 weeks to decide if he is the future? Obviously Jeter is on his last legs, or leg as it were, but man is it going to be ugly when they move him in the order, let alone from SS???
Jeter to RF, give Nunez a shot at SS, focus on pitching as John says. Pena has been defensively very impressive last season (and in one game this season – ha!).
If they could develop one starter every three or five or ten years, the pitching would be much better off. Cashman never has. Not one.
So instead, they’re dropping even more money on middling pitching this off-season. Hell, remember when the system was supposed to be stocked with pitching? Look who’s pitching tonight…
Call me crazy but Jeter is so calculated and prides himself on being the perfect teammate don’t you think he’s already mentally prepared himself to go quietly towards the bottom of this order and quite possibly a lesser role? He has spent his entire career keeping himself in the good graces of Yankee fans. Why would he jeopardize his legacy (a la Posada)by putting up a stink? Sure he’s a legend, but he’s the most rational, thought out, calculated player of this twitter crazy, saying what comes to the tip of your tongue generation…Sure internally he might be saying f*ck this sh*t I am Derek Jeter, but does anyone honestly believe he’d publicly protest any move? I doubt it. Matter of fact I am very confident that never happens.
Generally agree with you John, the the “Evil Empire” theme music in his first PA of the 2011 season was an interesting window into his relatively mild and quite veiled, though nonetheless very public, prefered form of protest…

Man I hope so brother…
I don’t think Jeter would ever be DFA’d. If it came to that I think the Yankees organization would give him the opportunity to respectfully retire. DFA’ing him would be a huge insult to someone who has meant so much to the franchise.
I’m interested to see what happens if (when) they move him down in the lineup. That’s going to be an awkward/uncomfortable situation.
