What could be better – baseball is back. Oh, wait. The Sox are starting Tim Wakefield, who we detest. And their lineup looks like it is a product of rounds 15-24 of most rotisserie drafts. And they are playing the formidable Texas Rangers. Ugh.
Comment here.
Thanks for everything Wake.
Now retire.
Well then.
for the record, my rotisserie draft had better players available in 15th-24th rounds.
moment of silence before the game for sheppard and the stein at fenway. not sure what to think about that.
sorry guys…i’d be whining like a little baby if the yanks had to field a similar lineup due to the injury catastrophe the sox are facing, if “catastrophe” adequately describes how extreme the situation has become…i’m not keeping up with the status of currently injured players and when they will return, but i still think there’s hope if the team can get healthy in time to make a run and doesn’t fall too much further behind…no fan wants to win because the guys on the other teams got hurt…
“…moment of silence before the game for sheppard and the stein at fenway. not sure what to think about that….”
well rod, you should feel good that your team realizes that life is more important than the game and our rivalry, and recognized a moment to demonstrate some dignity and class…a time to forgo the petty silly side of the rivalry to acknowledge the passing of 2 important participants from the other half of that rivalry…
Shhesh.
Tim Wakefield has outstayed his welcome by A LOT.
on the bright side – the bullpen didn’t suck. that is all.
Wake is tipping a near 6 ERA, and getting older every second. At what point is a parting of the ways inevitable? I know he’s done great service to the Sox, and he seems, at least superficially from what we learn through the press, to be a good, decent guy. But he’s just brutal. Couldn’t the Sox at this point match his production with a less-than-$4M player? Is Doubront that much worse?
Ah, Doubront is pitching tonight, so I guess we will find out. Buchholz pushed back to get a rehab start. Yay.
Doubront is good – he has a curve that was supposedly not a great pitch, and broke it out against the Rays- it was really good.
I’m really late here, but classy move by the Red Sox, I guess I don’t know if I would expect anything different —

I agree, SF.
I mean, at this point, Wakefield is just a platoon pitcher. Terry Francona has been utilizing him so incorrectly that it’s hurting the team, and nobody sees it.
Wake’s attempt at a comeback isn’t exactly what everyone thinks it is!!
Did you know that lefties bat a little bit worse against Wakefield. His ability is so exaggerated.
In fact, I bet he’s relying on the knuckball to fool the hitters more often this year than before. I’d call that luck. Let me see if I can find a fangraph to support this idea…they have hundreds, I’m sure one of them will work.
Good thing the Red Sox have the best offense in baseball, so pitching Wakefield isn’t that necessary of an evil right now…why is this place so empty??
PLATOON HIM!! PLATOON HIM!! PLATOON HIM!!!
Yes! either that or trade him for one of those ambidextrous pitchers.
Or – according to fangraphs – his fastball is his best pitch, and one of the better ones in baseball, he should use it more ;)

haha.
The Yankee game on Friday night was epic. As is Yankee Stadium. One of the best nights of my life. Hands down…
Looks like I didn’t miss much around here???
i heading to the stadium this thurs 7/22…my daughter’s first trip, so we’re gonna take the tour and all that stuff…going with my son and one of my daughter’s friends…should be fun…
If you haven’t been there before DC…it’s going to blow your mind.
I’ve thought of making the trip down, as the guys in my lab are always going, but I just can’t bring myself to make the trek.
You’ve got a really good shot at seeing # 600 from A-Rod dc – hope it pans out that way.
Krueg man, I was really happy for you on Friday (and endlessly annoyed at myself for choosing Saturday’s game over Friday’s!). In the end I got to the Stadium for back-to-back games in which our starter left hurt before the 3rd inning. Nothing to compare to the Sox woes for sure, but certainly not encouraging. On top of which, as if we didn’t need more proof that AJ is a raving moron.
Have fun Thursday dc!
It was an amazing experience, capped off by the Swishalicious walk-off…he got the pie about 50 feet right in front of us. It was awesome IH, f-ing awesome.
Got to see Mo come out and pitch, back-to-back bombs, game tying HR…I think we stayed and celebrated with the people around us for at least 3 New York, New Yorks!!!
Oh, and not only were the seats incredible and free, the guy who got us the seats also had connections at the Stadium and we got free food and free drinks as well. I must have some seriously good karma to end up with all of it…
Being surrounded by all those YF’s was so fun. NYC is the greatest. We are seriously thinking about moving up there when my wife graduates now…although they need some serious AC in the subway stations!!!
New gamer thread boys???
Totally new perspective now that I have been in the Stadium…so cool.
1-2-3 first for PHranchise…
Sean O’Sullivan??? Crush this douche…
SWISH-BOMB!!!! 1-0!!!
Tex walks and ARod hits a double to the gap!!!! 2nd and 3rd with 1 out for Cano!!!
Intentional walk to Cano…HIP HIP GS???
2-0…almost a DP for Hip Hip…2 outs, 1st and 3rd for Curtis…
Granderson K’s…he really hasn’t done very much so far this year…very average player. I thought he was going to be a difference maker.
Torii Hunter is an idiot…doubled up on a pop fly to Cano???
Hughes has lost all his confidence…getting rocked. Nice job front office!!! Let’s go ahead and ruin Phil too!!! Way to learn your lesson with Joba idiots…
2 on with no outs in the 3rd…here we go. Total implosion.
Thus begins the slow death spiral of the 2010 Yankees…
serves me right for drafting a yankee on my fantasy baseball team. granderson blows.
He’s no Ellsbury or Cameron…oh wait…have they even played this year troll boy???
aww kruegy. you’re right, he doesn’t blow. maybe a cute fanboy nickname from you might turn his season around. how’s about grandersauras, or granderguy, or granderdude? well, you’re alot better at it than i am.
as to your cute ellsbury/cameron quip…. neither of those guys cost us austin jackson. so you’re right, ellsbury and cameron are no granderdude.
you’re still a turd slurper.
Enjoy 3rd place loser…
“He’s no Ellsbury or Cameron…oh wait”
i know baseball knowledge isn’t your strong suit so i took the time to do some comps for ya and figured out granderson’s most comparable sox counterpart is jeremy hermida. thank god the sox didn’t throw away prospects or move young players out of position for hermidas sake.
come on, “loser” is the best you got? what about “loserlicious”? you’re better than that.
loserlicious.
That’s funny.
Sorry for the doubler.
You guys stop being girls.
Today is a day to celebrate!! Break out those annoying soccer horn things, and take to the streets. Wave a flag. Shoot off some fireworks. Have a bbq. Shout from the rooftops.
TIM WAKEFIELD IS HEADED TO MOP UP DUTY!!!!
hahahahah. I literally hope he gets buried in the back of the bullpen and I only see him when the Sox are up by 10 or down by 10.
Would “loserlicious” be a good name for the Sox at this point?
How about…
third place-a-licious
or
non playoffs-a-licious
or
overrated-a-licious???
I like those! Thanks for the idea rod!
(sorry to the cool SF’s…)
Krueg, I’m fully aware you’re flame throwing to one person, but you know this isn’t over…yet.
In other news, the Rays are in talks about Jason Werth. Ouch. They’d obviously send Upton, but if they sign Werth, they’re better, and they’ll pick 7 times in the first round next year with picks from Pena, Crawford, and Werth plus their own.
Ouch.
I know dude, that post was not for the rational folks…and by the way, Wake is due for a good start!
Wake is due for a good start!
To his retirement days…
I totally understand blind hatred of a player…nothing anyone can say changes it.
Rocking Pineiro…5-0 in the 3rd…
Well…we spotted Vazquez a 6-0 lead…doesn’t matter because the loser gives up 4 straight hits, including a HR to such household names as Frandsen and Wilson to now make it 6-3 with no outs in the 5th. Gotta love javy fucking Vazquez…
Nick Johnson what?
It’s so common when a starter gets spotted five or six runs in the first for him to give them all back in the next five..He relaxes too much and just throws strikes thinking it’s out of reach, or that he can dial it back up when he needs to, but he never can.
Matsui sure missed that RF porch.
lots of day baseball today!
Thank god. I can’t stay up for these west coast swings.
I hear ya!
Platoon him!!! (who, I have no idea, but I thought I’d just throw that out there)
Crazy game…thankfully Shields sucks worse than Javy and Joba!
There are Oakland fans blowing Vuvuzelas during the Sox game right now. So not only is soccer a mediocre sport, but it’s shitting up other sports too. Thanks a lot.
Can of corn pop-up to Beltre, lost in the sun. That makes three errors already this game.
Lowrie throws the ball a bit high and Youk comes off the bag, and then gets tackled by Davis. Ugh this is not a good game for the Sox.
oh how i want to like jed. it’s just hard to root for a guy when he lives on the DL.
Why does Dusty Brown suck so much? Passed ball last night, and another today, both on balls that should have been easy to catch and with runners on base.
I really hate this team right now.
