This morning on the way to work, I overheard the sports report on 1010 WINS, New York’s pre-eminent newsradio station.  The update at 815 stated, in no uncertain terms, that today’s Yankees home opener was "the one that counts".  Now however much the Yankees want that to be the case, I am guessing the Angels and the Athletics might have something to say about such revisionism.

The arrogance.

  • Finally, SF and I agree! I always decide what to think on the basis of what some crappy radio station says. Unless the people on the FAN contradict WINS of course.
Now, what can we say about Boston on the basis of WEEI? I guess Boston’s reputation as an intellectual center is just a myth.

  • All sports radio sucks. I live in Philly, so I’ve got the ultimate suck here, WIP (yes, only three call letters). Until this year they did sports “updates” once an hour (at 50 minutes past… wtf?) which consisted of:
    1. an advertisement
    2. an Eagles update (football season or not)
    3. the current weather (no mention of what might occur later)
    4. another advertisement.
Further they’re openly rude to just about anyone, and they never mention anything that doesn’t involve Philly sports, unless it involves some personal story about how their uncle or cousin was drinking a lot and… well, anyway. its utterly intolerable.
WFAN and WEEI are high literature compared to WIP.
