  • Moose gave up 3 quick runs, but the Yanks got his back this time around and scored 6. But Buck just doubled to start the second..
Moose going for his 16th win.

  • Small (very) size, but ARod was up with 3 down, and hits a 3 run HR. Of course, this would’ve counted toward the “not clutch, 3 run differential” stats.
Also, Nady continue some kind of hot bat by homering. And Gardner tripling to score one.
Moose not doing well at all.. as th bottom of the lineup both got on base (both ~.220 hitters) and top of the lineup coming right up.

  • Reverse jinx? DeJesus flied out to shallow center, can’t tag up, and Aviles, the 320 hitter grounded into a double play. Moose got out of that one..

  • Nice of Beckett to show up today. Talk about an unclutch performance, Josh gets the nod today.
Sorry display by our supposed ace.

  • Becks not following his great game te other day – putting them in a 6-0 hole and the first half of the inning isn’t even over yet.. (and batted around)..

  • Beckett’s in so much trouble that Buchholz is headed to the bullpen. Wow.

  • Bannister taking one for the team? NOt looking good so far, though he had a good run at some point, but I’m too lazy to look up precisely.. but he hasn’t been good for awhile though..

  • Well, at least I can ignore all baseball today, and I know that I can do that just a few minutes into the game.
Wonder if Beckett is hurt, though he might just have had a bout of suck. Who knows.

  • Wow. Not the score I expected to see joining the game in the first with Beckett pitching…

  • Bannister is a horrendous pitcher.

  • Put the Sox against a good team, Paul, and all bets are off.
Besides the smoke and mirrors that was the Rangers series, this team is infuriating.

  • Giambi slams. 10-3 Yanks.

    Lar August 17, 2008, 2:05 pm
  • Bash from the stash.. ah, good old John S..

    Lar August 17, 2008, 2:07 pm
  • Not to be a terminal wet blanket, but looking forward I’d be surprised if the Sox win more than six of their next 14 games, including today’s shitfest.
    Check back in two weeks.

  • Bannister still in, despite 10 runs in an inning+. Saving the bullpen much?

    Lar August 17, 2008, 2:08 pm
  • 2 more hits and finally they take out Bannister. Tried taking one for the team, but…

    Lar August 17, 2008, 2:09 pm
  • Bannister hasn’t gotten out of the third or fourth in five of his starts, and in six others he hasn’t made it six innings. He’s an awful pitcher, his last two months have been almost immeasurably pathetic, and he still has a job. That’s Kansas City for you – he barely deserves to be pitching in AAA, much less the Majors.

    SF August 17, 2008, 2:10 pm
  • Though “only” 6 of those 10 runs are ER’s..

    Lar August 17, 2008, 2:10 pm
  • The amazing this is that yesterday Hillman left Soria on the pine, despite a tight game and despite this POS making the start Sunday. He left his best relief pitcher waiting for no good reason, just because you don’t bring in your closer in a tie game on the road. Just dumb, predictable “by-the-book” managing that shows Hillman to be no different than most thick-skulled managers.

  • Just heard Paul Byrd’s post-game comments on nesn. “I overthrew some pitches… wanted to hear the crowd cheer when I struck someone out. … that’s not my game, I need to make better pitches…” [generalized quote, from memory].
Seems like a good perspective coming into Boston. Try to be great for the fans, but realize that you have to do what you can do. That will get the job done.

  • Beckett doesn’t have his stuff today. Even when he gets ahead of batters 0-2 he leaves a curveball hanging. Aardsma coming in after 2.1. Red Sox fans still applaud him.

    Atheose August 17, 2008, 2:32 pm
  • Pitching is weird and unpredictable, and Beckett’s career sort of demonstrates that. He’s having a good year, don’t get me wrong, but wouldn’t you call him the #3 of this rotation right now? He’ll get the first start in any post-season series because he’s had the most dominant beginning to a post-season career maybe ever, but Lester and Dice-K (maybe this is arguable) have been better this season. Although maybe that just points out how strong the top of the Sox rotation is.

  • What did we do, trade pitching staffs with Texas?
    McNeal, out.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 17, 2008, 2:57 pm
  • wow! John Sterling just blows Cody Ransom’s first homer as a Yank, calling him Xavier Nady. Good to be paying attention.

    Nick-YF August 17, 2008, 3:44 pm
  • Will the real Josh Beckett please stand up?
