NEW YORK (Reuters) – Wang Chien-ming won his fifth consecutive game to pitch the New York Yankees to a 1-0 road victory over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.

  • It does read awkward by way of western familiarity, but it is a forgivable, culturally respectful error if it was really an error. In Chinese, surnames are written first followed by given names.

  • Of course, it wasn’t his fifth consecutive win either. Unless that’s the really big error. But this stuff happens all the time. Remember when ESPN erroneously called Schilling a former Cy Young award winner?

  • All I know is that it’s not hard, a. To Google a guy’s name, and b., Check his gamelogs in the first three weeks of the season.
    I’m pretty sure Reuters has access to the Interwebs, even in Europe.
