Edward Mujica to the Red Sox

If you don’t follow the NL, you might not know this guy is a pretty darn good relief pitcher who hit a significant bump (injured) this past September. This is what I call “Just in case Uehara got Foulked this past postseason” insurance. 2 years.

  • Uehara, Tazawa, Breslow, Mujica, Miller, Bradenhop (whose acquisition I neglected to mention earlier this offseason). Awwww yeeeeah, bullpen. Now fucking DFA Morales (or send him to AAA for starter depth if that’s at all possible)…and maybe get Workman geared up to start? Not sure what their Workman plans are, but they need to do jack shit about pitching. Offense: 1B (unless they trust Carp/Nava), 3B (I think they’ll probably stick with Middlebrooks), CF (I think they’ll plug in JBJ, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see them head in another direction). They COULD start playing tomorrow and be fine, but I think they’ll probably sign Napoli (though he had a crazy-high BABIP, like Salty) and one other FA before it’s all settled.

  • Well, they need to do jack shit about pitching except maybe trade one starter (Dempster? Peavy? Lackey???) for value that makes sense. Wouldn’t be the worst thing to have a starter in the wings. I’m thinking Lester, Buchholz, and Doubront are all but untouchable given talent/price/age, but ya never know what insane trade someone might offer.
