Encore!: Yanks-Nats Gamer II

I think it would be fair to say that Bernie’s outperforming most people’s expectations this season, especially in the month of the June. He and Robbie Cano, in fact, have been key in keeping the Yanks afloat as the rest of the team struggles through injuries, inconsistent starting pitching, and A-Rod’s post-stomach virus monster slump. So, here’s to our old man in right field. Even if this is temporary, it’s been great to be reminded of Bernie in his prime. Let’s hope it continues today as Chacon goes for the Yanks against the Nationals’ Ortiz. Comment away!

  • I bet you Joe was super happy to move Bernie into the 2 hole today.
Gator: Gonna bat that black spanish guy behind the surfer today?
Joe: Yeah Gator. His name is Bernie Williams.
    Gator: Quiet guy.
Joe: Yup. He’s a real quiet guy.

  • walein has a whole collection of Gator-Torre conversations. He should publish a book of them.
In good for team-sad for a good guy news, Aaron Small has been cut. Apparently, he was gracious on the way out and even apologized to Torre for not getting the job done. You can never take 2005 away from Aaron though. Hope he finds another team to picth for.

  • Small by all accounts was a very, very nice guy, and a really big family man. I wish him the best, he contributed a lot and was one of the biggest reasons the Yanks were able to claw back last year and make the play-offs.

  • I’m off to the beach; GO YANKS! Have a good weekend everyone.

  • A-Rod is waking up!!!! A go-ahead homer, but it’s only in the 5th, so I guess it’s not valuable…

  • Jorge!!!

  • Damon 4-4 with a salami.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 3:23 pm
  • Hey Attack! How’s it doing? I’ll be here for 5 minutes and then gone. Gotta say that I’m pretty psyched about Damon’s year so far.

    Nick-YF June 17, 2006, 3:26 pm
  • Hi, Nick! Agreed about Damon. No game feed here on the west coast. I’m watching the Italy/US cup game, and checking the internet every now and then.

  • Chacon having trouble.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 3:35 pm
  • Smith in for Chacon, NY leading 9-4, with men on 2nd and third and two runs in for the Nats this inning.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 3:37 pm
  • 9-6 now. Single from Schneider off of Smith scores Ward and Zimmerman. Still one out. Those runs are Chacon’s.

  • T.J. Beam making his debut for NY.

  • Soriano works a long at bat and gets a single to left.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 3:58 pm
  • Vidro flies out to left to end the inning. Nice work by Beam.

  • Mike Stanton is pitching for Washington in the top of the seventh.

  • you guy’s gotta be happy cashman stuck to his guns on the one year deal for cha”con”. glad the trio of small/wang/chacon didn’t show up this year.

    sf rod June 17, 2006, 4:12 pm
  • Yes, Small was disappointing and I don’t know what to expect about Chacon for the rest of the season. Wang has been surprisingly effective and is the second best starter on the team.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:20 pm
  • Proctor in for Beam. Fick singles to score Guillen. One run game.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:34 pm
  • Proctor with a big strikeout to end the inning. NYY 9, WAS 8.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:39 pm
  • Williams is 0-5 on the day with the strikeout to lead off the top of the eighth.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:43 pm
  • Jeter doubles to right center. IBB to Giambi to get to ARod. What does that tell you?

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:45 pm
  • First base was open with one out. Make ’em pay, Alex.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:46 pm
  • Crosby is running for Giambi. Double steal?

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:47 pm
  • ARod flies out to right for two away. Jorge up to try and provide some insurance.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:49 pm
  • Posada hits it to deep center but not far enough. Inning over.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:50 pm
  • Top half of the inning, that is.
Proctor faces Soriano to lead off the bottom of the eighth.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:53 pm
  • Proctor’s velocity is way down. The Yanks really really really need some help in the bullpen right now. This is getting out of hand. I think Proctor has been in more games than Jeter this year.

    RichYF June 17, 2006, 4:54 pm
  • Proctor walks Soriano. No outs to Jose Vidro with the tying run on first.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:55 pm
  • 1-1 draw in world cup play as USA ties Italy.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:56 pm
  • Mo in for Proctor? Proctor looked awful. He got bailed out. His control is gone. Put that man on the DL or give him some days off. Jeez. Mo for another 5 outs? Did Torre watch last night or what?

    RichYF June 17, 2006, 4:56 pm
  • Vidro flies out to center. One away. Ward up for the Nats.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:58 pm
  • Mo looked so good last night. Only one long at bat that I recall.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 4:59 pm
  • Soriano steals second.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 5:02 pm
  • Soriano steals third and scores on Jorge’s throwing error.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 5:05 pm
  • Tie game.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 5:05 pm
  • And the game blows up. Gah. 11-9 nats. Rivera didn’t have it today.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 5:09 pm
  • Cairo will hit for Rivera with two outs in the top of the ninth after Cano Kd and Cabrera grounded out to first.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 5:15 pm
  • Cairo singles to keep hope alive. Johnny Damon is up.

    attackgerbil June 17, 2006, 5:16 pm

  • Tough, tough loss…but enough good things happened today to make me not kill myself and those around me.
Small and Erikson DFAed. Sorry Smally, I love ya to death, but this was a great move, trimming some of the obvious fat from the pen, and showing that someone (Cash?) in the office isn’t asleep at the wheel.
    Also: A-Rod!!
