Well, the Sox’ bats breathed new life into Brad Radke’s sagging career, after doing similar things for Jaret Wright and John Wasdin. Now they’ll try to work their magic on Carlos Silva (yes, that’s a 7 at the front of his ERA). The Yankees lost already today, so first place is back within reach. There’s no better time than now for our new-look team — goodbye, David Riske; hello, Javier Lopez — to realize that this collection of talent has no business winning just six times in 15 games.
Comment away!
Wakefield’s not getting the same corner Silva got…
I thought all that insanity about getting Mirabelli back was to avoid moments like this, no?
Don’t get me started on that… We lost Bard’s good bat and his youth to get Old Man Mirabelli’s better (but still not perfect) glove and nonexistent bat…
1-0 on the squeezed walk, passed ball and two groundouts…
One hit through two innings for the Sox. Not a single ball hit hard in the 2nd…
whoa whoa whoa, Mirabelli is far from nonexistant at the plate!
… it just takes 30 games (6 Wakefield starts) for him to emerge from normal slumps.
Damn you, Kubel!
lol, airk
Kubel HR makes it 2-0 Minnesota. What the crap?
Wake’s pitching pretty well tonight. As usual, our offense (minus Loretta and Varitek tonight) is nowhere to be seen..
yeah, the good news is that the twins will probably not score another run in the next 5 innings.
You guys would all agree that “minus Varitek” might not be a bad thing?
wwell, yet another instance of me being flat-out wrong.
Not likely, when the alternative is ‘Belli, Walein….
no, i don’t agree walein. Tek is picking up his average every day now. He’s just had bad luck so far this year — essentially a normal start minus any token hot streak. It happens.
Also, Morgan just put it down on you guys!!!! Wakefield, right after Joe says that the “twins will do this to you, move people all around” Wakefield got a pitch out and they threw the guy out!
Tek’s definitely been more of an asset than a burden over the past two weeks. Two out of the last three weeks, he’s led the team in BA. His average is roughly the same as Papi’s now…
2nd passed ball for Mirabelli. No harm though, next pitch is the K.
3-0 Minnesota :-\
People at work are fighting me for control of the remote… Something about some championship series game or somesuch nonsense…
Watch out Paul SF…Isolanationism is king!
Crisp out on the first pitch…how do the coaches and Tito make him stop? I would love to see a stat comparing his pitches per ab when the bases are empty compared to p/ab with men on.
Well this game is zipping along nicely…
Wow, Coco is hitting .194 with runners on base. Only 36 at-bats, so there’s some sample size issues, but wow…
I am in Sox Detox. Back in a day or two or so. I need a break. Enjoy.
WTF?! I have Wake throwing today in my fantasy league. This is probably one of the few times I’m rooting along w/you guys.
this game has the feel of one where Wakefield pitches a complete game, giving up 4 runs, yet the Sox still lose.
Not the offense though, just Wake.
Now 4-0. I’m not even watching anymore, and I still feel suckerpunched. What happened to this team over the last two weeks?
They spent too much time hanging with the Yanks ;-)
This is Bullshit! Ortiz smokes a home run that hits off a speaker dangling from the roof, and it’s a single.
Remy is right. The Metrodome is a joke. These games shouldn’t count, says I!
When the Twins come to Fenway, an enormous plane (not an airplane, mind you) should be held, via crane, over right field.
63 pitches for Silva through 6.
you have to like that its 4-0 twins, but you can still hear the sox fans chear Trot’s single.
Remy mentions that Silva has thrown first-pitch strikes to 19 out of 23 batters. Impressive.
This injury is horsepoo. The Sox are going to win this game, I’m telling you.
hmmm
The Twins need to lose the pinstripes and adopt a Sox-esque home jersey. I feel strongly about this.
Their “TC” hat is aces, I must say.
Tavarez warming up…..
Men on base, Crisp out on the first pitch AGAIN. Learn from your mistakes, Coco.
That was impressive. Two singles, then two shots to drive them in and both guys screw it up. Coco got a first pitch fastball he should have driven, but he popped it up. Mirabelli got a hanging curveball he should have hit out but couldn’t wait quite long enough to do so. In short: ARG!
yeah, Covelli is over-anxious
Tavarez pitching — someone just hold the chloroform over my mouth, please.
Francona just couldn’t wait to get This Guy (you know who I’m talking about) into the game, huh.
He’ll strike oth the side three straight innings, now that there’s no pressure, thus ensuring a spot in a high-pressure situation where he’ll choke…
Not quite, but what was that? Three outs on eight pitches?
Youk starts the rally!
Wow, E-3 loads the bases… Makings of a big inning here,…
Let’s go Manny!
Manny K’s w/ sacks packed….
… until Manny strikes out…
argh….Trot, not what we needed…
Lowell comes through in the clutch! 4-2 Twins.
Hope lives on! Lowell single makes it 4-2…
Coco loads em up again! This is more like it…
Tek, first pitch swinging……
leaving three stranded…..and swinging on the first pitch…you are KILLING me tek…KILLING me
Tek fouls out on the first pitch… I’d be pissed, but I doubt Mirabelli would have done better…
and in a PINCH HIT situation!!! WTF!
Now that its only two runs, I wonder if we’ll see Tavarez blow up…
Right on cue, the base hit…
In comes Javier Lopez, so I guess we’ll see early what the kid’s got…
Walk on four pitches, none of them close… This sounds familiar…
Lopez issues a walk on 4 pitches. ummmmm
arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Bleck, base hit, and we get an out thanks to Morneau’s greediness…
And the double play. No ER from him, just Tavarez’s on 1st.
I gotta take optimism out of this where I can, right?
Then the DP… So not too too bad. But not good either…
That was me.
Last chance for the bats… We’ll have some good hitters in this inning…
Blech.
Alex Cora is our last chance…
At worst, Cora will go down fighting.
Cora keeps it goin!
A breath, but still quite a-ways to go.
He’s really done a good job for us. Would it be so terrible to start him at short more often? He’s sure-handed on defense…
It’s up to Manny Ramirez.
Papi RBI!!! Don’t give up!
Yah Papi! Still clutch…
Aww, Manny!! :-(
K. twins swwep Sox for first time since ’94.
*sweep
Oooof, nice gut punch at the end there. Ick.
What a lousy stretch. The only thing I can think to say is I’m glad they’re getting it out of the way now…
Sure am glad we got Javier Lopez though. Really turned this game around :-P
