First Rule of Manny Trade Talk

If you’re a Yanks fan and you want Manny to get traded, don’t talk about Manny getting traded lest he actually doesn’t get traded.

A closely related fact is that Manny never seems to get traded. This is why I believe Jon Heyman when he writes today:

"Talks picked up this week, but all things considered, folks who have
spoken to Boston are saying now it appears "less than 50-50" that
Ramirez goes anywhere."

Translated: In 2007 I have to watch Manny hit another 5 bombs and drive in another 4 bazillion runs in a three game series against my beloved Yanks. And I thought the holidays were coming early this year.

So, there you have it: Manny ain’t going anywhere. There’s not a chance we see Manny playing anywhere but in Boston next year.

  • And then there’s this, from a certain pitcher we know quite well here at YFSF:
“I think Manny is less than comfortable playing in Boston for whatever reason, that’s his right. I think it’s gotten to the point now where there’s some thought that even though Manny might stay, he might not be here if he does. And I think the belief is that trading Manny and bringing somebody in would be more valuable than having a Manny here that didn’t play. I don’t know that to be a fact. That is pure speculation on my part. I live with the guys, I have some insight. I don’t know for sure. I do know that I’ve spoken with Manny. Manny does want to be traded. Manny wants to play somewhere else.”—Curt Schilling

  • Blah blah blah. Can we just get a pre-recorded message and then dub-in the respective year going forward with this?

  • Manny stays, Manny puts up the numbers the way he always has, Manny goes, Manny does same thing for another team.
    He’s just crazy like that.
Schill might be a bit paranoid.

  • You’d have to be suicidally unhappy to walk away from $40+MM…
