So our newest hurler takes the mound tonight in his major league debut against the offensive-minded Texas Rangers at the Fens. And the above phenomena sound just about right as the residue of watching a virgin knuckleballer testing his wares in the shadow of the Green Monster. We wish him luck, we’ll be watching as we sit down to a home-cooked dinner.

  • Ellsbury’s a scratch just before gametime.
Zink gets through the first on 12 pitches.

  • “Let my Cameron go … ”
Line from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Jason Bay looks like Alan Ruck’s character Cameron from that movie.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 7:26 pm
  • Welcome to the big leagues, Charlie – have some run support!

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 7:28 pm
  • Batting through the order in the first.

    rootbeerfloat August 12, 2008, 7:29 pm
  • Holy sh*t, this is awesome!

    Devine August 12, 2008, 7:29 pm
  • No, wait. Two 3-run homers for Big Papi in a single inning is what’s awesome.
    I repeat: HOLY SH*T!!!

    Devine August 12, 2008, 7:33 pm
  • Sox making sure Zink has pleeeeenty of run support.
    ORTIZ AGAIN!!!!! 10-0!!!

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:33 pm
  • I LOVE YOU PAPI!!!!!

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 7:34 pm
  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I have Papi and Pedroia on my fantasy team, so my rough count for Points Per Inning is sitting at roughly “a billion” for this game so far.

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 7:34 pm
  • Holy crap two homers in the same inning for Papi!
    Slump = over.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 7:34 pm
  • This is incredible!

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:34 pm
  • The Sox doubled their run count in the 4 minutes between my posts.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 7:36 pm
  • Uh, what’s going on?! I put the kid to bed and come out to this? I have been waiting to see an inning like this for weeks, and I MISS IT!!!!

    SF August 12, 2008, 7:37 pm
  • Youks gotta be pissed making 2/3 of the outs that inning – both Ks!

    David (SF) August 12, 2008, 7:37 pm
  • They have to be giving Youk a ton of shit in the dugout for making 2 of our 3 outs via strikeout in an inning in which we scored 10 runs.

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 7:37 pm
  • SF – Maybe it’s you. Spend more time tucking that kid in.

    rootbeerfloat August 12, 2008, 7:38 pm
  • How effing awesome was that inning?

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:38 pm
  • I bet that’s the first time Youk has struck out twice in one inning!

    rootbeerfloat August 12, 2008, 7:38 pm
  • I kept meaning to go turn on the radio to hear the calls, and runs just kept getting scored before I could!
If I were Tim Wakefield, I would be pissed.

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:39 pm
  • 9.00 WHIP for Feldman. Not usually good for the ultimate results.

    SF August 12, 2008, 7:40 pm
  • Chien-Ming Wang would be pitching a shutout with a WHIP like that!

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:41 pm
  • I have Ortiz in my fantasy lineup, mostly on the bench for this year.. well, glad I put him in today!
Looks like this game is over. Well, if Zink gives up 10 runs, I wouldn’t mind too much.. ;)

    Lar August 12, 2008, 7:41 pm
  • Two on to lead off the second. We might need those runs…

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:42 pm
  • Ok, I will go away for a minute or two, I am not a good influence.

    SF August 12, 2008, 7:43 pm
  • Charlie apparently gets nervous when he’s 10 runs ahead after 1 inning.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 7:44 pm
  • Drew makes the catch in foul territory. Now two down with runners on second and third.

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:45 pm
  • Well, phooey, single plates the pair after all.

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:46 pm
  • 15 runs are needed.

    SF August 12, 2008, 7:46 pm
  • If there’s one team not to get complacent about a big lead with, it’s this one.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 7:47 pm
  • This game has all the makings of a scary blown lead. It’s all set up: erratic knuckleballing rookie against bombsquad from Texas. Over/under of 25 runs tonight!

    SF August 12, 2008, 7:48 pm
  • I hope Zink knows the bull pen can’t be counted on to hold less than a 7 run lead.

    rootbeerfloat August 12, 2008, 7:49 pm
  • Yay! Four more like this and the Sox will be up 50-8. That would probably be safe.

    SF August 12, 2008, 7:51 pm
  • Well, at this rate, the final score will be 80-8, so no worries!

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:51 pm
  • Okay, as long as the Rangers keep this pace, we win 10-9.
Unless the Red Sox intend on keeping their pace up, in which case…80-9.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 7:51 pm
  • Hehe, same track, SF.

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:52 pm

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:52 pm
  • I feel so…unoriginal.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 7:53 pm
  • More likely: The Sox somehow manage not to be able to touch Feldman for the next four innings.

    Paul SF August 12, 2008, 7:53 pm
  • It better not rain.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 7:55 pm
  • Looks like that’s how it’s going to be so far, Paul. Hopefully Zink won’t let them back in the game in the meantime, but even my Soxfan pessimistic streak can’t feel TOO worried.

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 7:55 pm
  • You mean, doing their impression of the Yanks? =P

    Lar August 12, 2008, 7:56 pm

Lowrie with his second double in two innings!

    Devine August 12, 2008, 7:58 pm
  • This game is going to get delayed, it looks like, but hopefully not rained out.

    Dwight Schrute.

  • Wow, replays show Ortiz’ second homer was actually a double?
About time one of those calls went our way, instead of the other way around.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 8:12 pm

    David (SF) August 12, 2008, 8:20 pm
  • david- both pitches were low.

    sf rod August 12, 2008, 8:23 pm

    (Kidding)

    Devine August 12, 2008, 8:26 pm
  • Lowrie grounds out to end the inning, left’em loaded. 12-2. Down to a 36-6 pace.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:27 pm
  • 8-pitch inning. Much cleaner, I like it.

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 8:32 pm
  • Dude, the Rangers infield *stinks*.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 8:34 pm
  • Bob Zupcic.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:35 pm
  • GOD BLESS COCO!
It’s been a long time since I’ve said that.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 8:35 pm
  • AFLAC Trivia question: Who was the last Sox player with a last name starting with “Z”. Zupcic is my guess.
Guess what: Kevin Cash is a really shitty hitter.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:35 pm
  • it’s another bad nite for atheists. hamilton strikes again.

    sf rod August 12, 2008, 8:45 pm
  • 9 run lead and shrinking. Zink gives up another hit, two on and one out in the fifth. One swing and it is a six run game!

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:45 pm
  • Your Red Sox Z players:
    Paul Zahniser Pitcher 1925-1926
    Al Zarilla Outfielder 1949-1950, 1952-1953
    Norm Zauchin First Base 1951-1957
    Matt Zeiser Pitcher 1914
    Bill Zuber Pitcher 1946-1947
    Bob Zupcic Outfielder 1991-1994

    sf rod August 12, 2008, 8:48 pm
  • someone remind me how many innings the game needs to go before it’s an official game, even if it rains?

    rootbeerfloat August 12, 2008, 8:48 pm
  • Gapper plates two, now it is 12-4, two on in scoring position and only one out. Glad the kid has a big lead, he isn’t that impressive right now.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:48 pm
  • sorry, that only plated one, hence the 12-4 score.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:49 pm
  • 21 combined hits and we’re just one out into the fifth. Red Sox have as many hits as outs, 12.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 8:50 pm
  • Zink exploding. The Sox picked a great night to score 10 in the 1st.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 8:50 pm
  • Another gapper. 12-6, man in scoring position. Yank him, Tito, he is pitching terribly. This is now a ballgame with so many frames left.
Just terrible – a 10 run lead in the fifth inning and it isn’t safe. Unbelievable.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:50 pm
  • Yikes – SF do you have another kid to tuck in?

    rootbeerfloat August 12, 2008, 8:50 pm
  • Let’s see if Zink can “earn” this “win”.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 8:50 pm
  • Zink has zilch left.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 8:50 pm
  • Awwwwwww, damn it, Coco.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 8:51 pm
  • Coco, what the hell!? Make the f*cking catch with a six run lead. You shouldn’t even try to make the quick pass to the throwing hand – the guy is on second, not scoring, and you HAVE A SIX RUN LEAD.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:51 pm
  • Yeah, uh, gone?
Gone, yeah. Sucks for Zink. Should be politely applauded instead of cheered as he leaves.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 8:52 pm
  • Seriously, there is no excuse for what Coco did, whether the guy got the call wrong or not. Awful baseball. Embarrassment.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:52 pm
  • Lopez. We’re going from a guy whose last name starts with a Z to a guy whose last name ends with a Z.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 8:53 pm
  • More than half the game has to be covered by the bullpen.
    *gulp*

    Devine August 12, 2008, 8:53 pm
  • Well, it was nice to meet you, Charlie.
Now go back to the minors.

    SF August 12, 2008, 8:54 pm
  • In all fairness the Rangers are a kick-ass offensive team. Could have been worse for Zink.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 8:54 pm
  • EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

    Devine August 12, 2008, 8:55 pm
  • Need a double play here.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 8:57 pm
  • Okay, the K. Uno mas to preserve our suddenly-tenuous 5-run lead. Please?

    Devine August 12, 2008, 8:58 pm
  • This is shaping up to potentially be one of the more pathetic losses I have ever seen in my life…
Still, if we only have 12 when this ends I will be very suprised, so I am optimistic. That’s what two championships do: they make you only slightly concerned about blowing 10 run leads, as opposed to fatalistically certain they will be blown.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:00 pm
  • 2-run game. Wow. I’m gonna go ahead and leave work now.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 9:02 pm
  • Wow, and suddenly it’s a 2-run game. Jesus.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 9:02 pm
  • 12-10. Unf*ckingbelievable.
This is the type of game that just makes you feel like your team is nothing but a pile of shit destined for a ditch. I don’t care what kind of offense Texas has, a ten run lead after four innings should be safe at home, under every possible circumstance.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:03 pm
  • Why did Tito micromanage that inning and remove Lopez? I just realized he faced two guys. What the hell?
    Fucking Tito…

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:04 pm
  • Pen is off to a rousing start.
    That’s 3 of 3 inherited runners scoring.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 9:04 pm
  • I come back from a meeting to find that we’re in an actual game now. What the hell?!

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 9:05 pm
  • Umpire seems to blow a call on a flyball to Coco that got dropped on a transfer to the throwing hand, that opened the inning up and the Rangers took advantage. Perhaps a bad call, but Coco had no play to make there other than the catch, and it was colossally stupid for Coco to try to whip-transfer that ball. This inning is not just on the ump, but also Coco. And Tito. And Zink.
    Awful all around.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:09 pm
  • screw instant replay, set up electric fences so fans can’t interfere.

    sf rod August 12, 2008, 9:09 pm

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 9:10 pm
  • Youk! 14-10.
I set the over/under at 25 a long while ago, I think the overs are going to have it.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:13 pm
  • Youk picks Ortiz up with a homer of his own.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 9:16 pm
  • It’s all Lar’s fault:
    >>>Looks like this game is over. Well, if Zink gives up 10 runs, I wouldn’t mind too much.. ;)
Not to be a broken record, but the first baseball game I ever saw was in Fenway against the Brett-era Royals — final score, 18-12. This reminds me of that game some 30 years ago.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 9:17 pm
  • Well, two runs is better than none. Normally pushing the run total to 14 should make you either laugh or feel comfortable, but not tonight.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:19 pm
  • So Aardsma for the 6th, then Delcarmen/Okajima/Papelbon? I’m assuming it will be a 3-run game by then.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 9:21 pm
  • Just to remind us of this thread early in the game:
    15 runs are needed.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 9:24 pm
  • Wow, Delcarmen in… 2 innings for him tonight?

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 9:26 pm
  • Why does Lopez get yanked after a terrible play/call by the umps, a K, and a dunk that dropped in front of Bay, but Aardsma gets six batters having only retired one?
    Zombie managing.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:27 pm
  • Wow, Charlie Zink is not a major league pitcher – not yet at least.
Was the knuckler just not knuckling?

    Ben (YF) August 12, 2008, 9:28 pm
  • I know you manage with a slow hook with a ten run lead, but when that lead hits six with 15 outs still to get you have to start managing differently, which Tito did not do. He didn’t do it up three, either, and now he hasn’t done it up four. The players obviously have to execute, but Tito has botched these last two innings amateurishly.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:29 pm
  • Charlie Zink is 29 and hasn’t ever made it to the Majors. For a reason. Though a small sample, Zink’s knuckleballer looked lame in comparison to Wake’s. Barring injury catastrophe or a fill-in spot in the last week of the season if the Sox are utterly dead or have clinched something, I don’t imagine we will see him again.
And now it is 14-12, tying run at second with none out.
Fuck this game and this team tonight. Fuck them.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:31 pm
  • Shit.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 9:31 pm

    Ugh.
    14-13.
    One out, man on 3rd.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 9:32 pm
  • Now I am of the mind that we will be lucky to only lose this game by three or four.
Win or lose, one of the absolute worst games of the year.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:32 pm
  • We’re running out of relievers, too. Timlin pitched last night, but I guess we could use him.
What the hell… grounder goes off Youk, Pedroia grabs it and fires home but it’s too high. Good try by Cash at the tag.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 9:34 pm
  • Wheels … coming … off … all the way off.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 9:34 pm
  • Good night. For the sake of my sanity and computer, good night.
Utterly demoralizing, embarrassing, you name it.

    SF August 12, 2008, 9:35 pm
  • Losing 15-14 now, 2 down, one on.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 9:37 pm
  • Wakefield didn’t establish himself in the majors until he was 28. Hough and Phil Niekro were 28 too.

    Ben (YF) August 12, 2008, 9:39 pm
  • This is a fucking embarrassment. This sucks ass.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 9:47 pm
  • Coco is caught stealing but it’s a blassing in disguise cause Pedroia was at a 1-2 count. He gets a clean slate next inning.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 9:48 pm
  • And now Covelli CS.
Where’s that women’s tandem platform diving?

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 9:48 pm
  • Here’s what’s ridiculous: We have 29 runs on the board, and MLB gameday has two video highlights posted, Papi’s first homer and Youk’s homer.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 9:50 pm
  • Coco goes horizontal but misses it–Hamilton to 2nd. Two defensive mistakes by him tonight.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 9:57 pm
  • I feel ashamed right now.
I just hope they do too.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 9:58 pm
  • Worst.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:12 pm
  • Game.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:12 pm
  • Ever.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:13 pm
  • Washington should just walk Papi.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:14 pm
  • Tying run on base with no outs! Time for Youk and Lowell to come through.
Can’t believe I’m still watching this game.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 10:15 pm
  • “it was actually really cool seeing girls dive completely in sync.”
It was. And even cooler was, in HD, you could see the Chinese womens’ hair fluttering in sync during the tumble to the water.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:15 pm
  • Those Chinese girls were creepy… almost identical twins, with the exception of some minor facial features. All the other teams had different body types than their partners.
Rangers make an error, one-run game.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 10:18 pm
  • E1, Pedro scores, go-ahead run on 2nd.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:18 pm
  • Well, back within one. Still nobody out.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:18 pm
  • Yes, they were creepy.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:18 pm
  • Lowell Ks looking.
    Bay’s up.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:19 pm
  • Down goes Lowell. Care to do anything good, Bay?

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:19 pm
  • Phelps about to swim, for all those interested.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 10:20 pm
  • Need a little of that post-Manny excitement from Bay.
    Pronto.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:20 pm
  • FC was not my idea of something good.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:21 pm
  • Bay underwhelming. 2 outs.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:21 pm
  • Bay underwhelming. 2 outs.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:23 pm
  • Phelps gets gold #4, breaks a world record in the process. Now the greatest olympian in history.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 10:24 pm
  • Sucks.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:25 pm
  • “Now the greatest olympian in history.”
    I’m sticking with Dan Gable.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:25 pm
  • They couldn’t have pinch-hit for Lowell as long as they were taking him out? Did he injure himself during the at-bat/in the dugout?

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:30 pm
  • Losing by one would be the only way this game could get worse.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:34 pm
  • Oki is keeping us in this.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:35 pm
  • Well, there are still two innings of at-bats left to tie this up or win it… I’m not giving up, but part of me is so disgusted I almost feel the Sox don’t deserve to win this one. I guess we’ll see Paps for the 9th.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 10:35 pm
  • Nice inning by Oki. I’m still confident that the Sox win this one. Have you all forgotten who the Rangers’ “closer” is now?

    stuck working August 12, 2008, 10:35 pm
  • Jacoby was a scratch with a sore tailbone after a HBP. He’s on deck to pinch hit.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:37 pm
  • Covelli F8, continues to underwhelm. The only starter w/out a hit.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:38 pm
  • I’ve not given up, but I agree in part, Hudson. They deserve to lose, and I almost (almost) want them to.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:38 pm
  • Jacoby walks on 4 pitches. Drew up.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:40 pm
  • Hope is such a b*tch.
    COME ON, DREW!

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:41 pm
  • Strained right oblique forces Lowell out. He sustained it during the AB, Joe C says.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:41 pm
  • Whoa. Casey’ll see some playing time, huh? Jeez.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:42 pm
  • Paps warming.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:43 pm
  • IN LIKE ANY OTHER BALLPARK!!!

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:43 pm
  • We need you here, Pedro.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:44 pm
  • Think Ellsbury should steal. Ugh, two strikes already.
    PEDROIAAAAA!!!!!

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:45 pm
  • PEDRO!!!!!!!

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:46 pm
  • Yes, still following this grotesque game, and yes, Pedroia just tied it up.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 10:47 pm
  • Oh, oh. Walking Papi to face Yooks.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:47 pm
  • MOTHERFUCKING LASER SHOW PEDROIA TIES IT!

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 10:47 pm
  • OMG, LIFE RULES AGAIN!!!
    YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!!!

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • Oh, my.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • YOUKILIS! THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR IBB’ING ORTIZ!

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • Only Coco didn’t hit the ball hard (or get walked).

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:50 pm
  • And to think Youks Kd twice in the 1st.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:51 pm
  • sick…

    SF August 12, 2008, 10:52 pm
  • … this is the craziest game I have ever seen.
    Good god.
    YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUK!

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 10:52 pm
  • I think I might have called this:
Oh, oh. Walking Papi to face Yooks.

  • Double-Homer Nights From Ortiz and Youkilis Save Disaster
Unless Papelbon effs it up…so I guess there is one more painful way to lose this.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:53 pm
  • Riverdance boy is in.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 10:53 pm
  • That’s one.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:56 pm
  • One on, error I’m guessing.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 10:56 pm
  • Wow, pitch right down the middle called a ball. He throws the same pitch again and he gets it right.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 10:59 pm
  • if they hang on this will be the very definition of an ‘ugly win’

    ponch - sf August 12, 2008, 10:59 pm
  • Into the gap. Tying run to the plate.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 11:00 pm
  • Devine what’s wrong with you?!?!

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 11:00 pm
  • wtf,

    SF August 12, 2008, 11:00 pm
  • I have aged 15 years in 4 hours. C’mon Paps. END THIS!

    Bostondreams August 12, 2008, 11:01 pm
  • That’s 2.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 11:01 pm
  • Do NOT do this, Paps. Finish it, already.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 11:01 pm
  • only one inning w/out a run tonight.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:02 pm
  • Please just end. Please.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 11:03 pm
  • Oh thank God. I feel tired, almost like I’m sore.

    Devine August 12, 2008, 11:03 pm
  • Holy hairy balls. It’s over.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:04 pm
  • whew

    SF August 12, 2008, 11:04 pm
  • Hot damn, they pulled it off. Pretty cool. But hard to be as happy about it as I should be.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 11:04 pm
  • Sorry to get your hopes up YFs.
    Wait. No, I’m not.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:04 pm
  • Mercy.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:05 pm
  • Well, that was fun.
And by fun I mean “never ever do that ever again, thanks guys”.
Most exhausting random regular season win ever.
    *collapses*

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 11:05 pm
  • We led, 10-0, and get a comeback victory.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:05 pm
  • Ballgame. Can’t believe we won that.
    Tampa Bay losing early.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 11:05 pm
  • Marte walking a tightrope. Twins w/runners on corners, 1 out, Delmon young up … and Paps’ favorite pitcher coming in.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:08 pm
  • By my count, there were about 54 baserunners in this game.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 11:10 pm

  • Well, that was fun.
And by fun I mean “never ever do that ever again, thanks guys”.
Most exhausting random regular season win ever.
    *collapses*

    Exactly. Great comment.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 11:11 pm
  • And Mariano Rivera gives up a game-tying 3-run homer! First blown save of the year.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 11:11 pm
  • Not to be lost in this was a very nice 1.2 innings by Oki.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:11 pm
  • The Twinkies just tied it up, 6-6, on a D. Young homer.

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 11:12 pm
  • Wow.
And here’s another nice thing. Tampa playing in Oakland had to be watching this. That’s a little more pressure on them, too.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:13 pm
  • The shot of the Texas manager after Youks’ second homer was hilariously grim. His whole body language screamed out: “It sucks to be me” (or: “Is Applebee’s hiring? Because right now I’d like just about any other job”).
Also liked the NESN call by Remy’s sidekick whatsisname: “Are you KIDDING me?”

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 11:16 pm
  • Remy’s sidekick = Don Orsillo

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:19 pm
  • So, who gets sent packing to activate Byrd … Lemme think, last name starts with … A … B … C … D … E …

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:21 pm
  • By the way, Olympians Shawn Johnson and Lolo Jones are from my hometown.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:21 pm
  • I keep wanting to give up on this team, but they have the third-most wins inthe AL and fourth-most in MLB. Tonight proved they still have a run in them and some untapped life. Yeah, I don’t want to do that again, but that was a huge, huge win the way it unfolded.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:24 pm
  • I’m just realizing, what with the Wildcard race, I actually should be rooting for the Yankees to beat Minnesota.
    But I can’t do it.
(Meanwhile, Twins reliever Dennys Reyes is possibly the only major leaguer with a wider face than Bobby Abreu. Wider by about 40%. Just sayin’.)

    Hudson August 12, 2008, 11:26 pm
  • Tonight’s game ties an AL record, most combined runs scored in a game. Previous record was Red Sox 22, Philadelphia A’s 14 on 6-29-1950.
(thanks to empyrealenvirons for finding this page for me)

    Ron Newman August 12, 2008, 11:30 pm
  • Phelps, etc, win gold in the 800 free relay. and, ho hum, another WR.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:31 pm
  • OK, gotta get on with life.
We’ll be, um, recalling this one for a while.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 12, 2008, 11:33 pm
  • Not only a world record, but they beat the record by over 5 seconds! Tremendous.

    Atheose August 12, 2008, 11:34 pm
  • Phelps is completely and utterly ridiculous. I’d really like to see him go 8/8/8 – 8 races, 8 golds, 8 WRs. And I think he can do it.
Following the Yankees game – it’s just not a good night for pitchers, is it?

    Micah-SF August 12, 2008, 11:48 pm
  • No. And I take back my early horay for Ortiz – my opponent has Youkilis. Still better than a wash, but not by much.. haha..
