The Mayor’s Cup is on!
After a many-year drought that left many thinking the Sox were cursed, Boston has finally begun winning championships with regularity.
Obviously, we’re talking about the Mayor’s Cup. The quest for a repeat begins now.
Or an hour ago. It’s the top of the third, none out, and Coco Crisp on first. Comment away!

Listening on XM, and the Twins announcers didn’t realize the Sox had signed Bobby Kielty. Apparently the research staff is still warming up, too.
HAH that’s pretty funny Paul. I’m watching mlb.tv and it is GREAT to hear Remdawg again, not to mention watching Dice-K do that little shuffle he does when the ball and glove are at the apex of his wind-up.
Okajima comes in and K’s the first batter, before giving up a LONG fly ball to left field.
A pitchers’ duel going on here. 0-0 top of the fourth.
A strike-3 foul-ball goes in and out of the catcher’s glove, but the ump calls Papi out.
Lowell clonks a 2-out single.
Yooooouuuuuuuk with the two-run homer!
Tek makes it back to back!
I didn’t realize Chase Wright was pitching for the Twins. ;-)
Good job jynxing pitchers’ duel, Paul!
Yep, all we need is Coco and Kielty to homer too…
I’m headed out to get some food, back later… happy cheering Paul!
GOD BLESS COCO! 2nd base stolen. Okay, now I’m really gone.
You know Kevin Slowey (sp?) is tired: Coco Crisp just drew a walk. Amazing! Also, this may be the only time we see Crisp (two hits, two walks this spring) with an OBP above .320 this year.
Now Crisp steals second.
Erstwhile Sox shortstop Alex Gonzalez has a broken knee. Owww.
Into the silly time of the game — Velasquez drives in Thurston, 4-0.
THE HOTNESS is now catching.
Nice DP.
I don’t think I realized you’re a woman, NSTB, until you started fawning over Kotteras in a previous thread.
Either that, or you’re a gay guy, in which case I just made an ass out of myself.
THE HOTNESS is batting and THE HOTNESS just hit a double! Be still my beating pants.
Yeah, I’m a girl. And that’s kinda funny, every blog I chitter-chat at, everyone thinks I’m a guy. One time I was talking up my lipgloss and threw everyone for a loop, they thought I was a drag queen.
Crisp drives in the Red Sox’ fifth run! He’s on fire!
I think the assumption, unless you have an actual girl’s name for a handle, is that everyone is a guy. I imagine there’s some latent sexism there, but I’m no psychologist.
So Kottaras and Crisp are in the “good spring” category, at least for the first couple games.
Lowrie batting! I love when the prospects play. He’s facing Joe Nathan, so I’d love to see another RBI here…
Lowrie walks. As he is wont to do.
Now Crisp steals third on a Ginter strikeout.
Crisp is playing for something, I wonder where he’ll be come July.
No shutout today. Home run off Tavarez makes it 5-1.
I bet he could be an extremely useful trading deadline chip. I’m guessing he’ll get more at-bats than people think, and do well enough to be worth something to an NL contender.
Asardsma pitching. I’m interested to see how he does.
Twins announcers mention he’s No. 1 on the all-time alphabetical list of ballplayers.
Who = “THE HOTNESS”?
I believe NTSB is referring to George Kottaras — who, I’m not gonna lie, is not an unattractive man.
Kotaras is THE HOTNESS, of course. He and Jacoby make up my dreamteam- Jailbait Sox.
Lowrie, my new fave prospect since Buchholz is likely in the rotation, is up with two men on and one out.
Thanks, NTSB, now I’m disturbed. Also, they’re both over 18, so I’m not sure they’re jailbait?
Lowrie strikes out. :-P
True, they are nice and legal.
And this game is boring as hell now. At least MG (My George) got a base-on-balls.
lol, I was just figuring you were some kind of old to be calling young-20s guys “jailbait.” j/k
Yeah, I’d forgotten how deadly dull spring training games get after the fifth.
Nah, not that lecherous- I’m only 5 years older than Jacoby.
nstb, how does the husband (i believe you mentioned him in a gamer last season) feel about your sox crushes?
OH NO HE DIT’ENT!!!
MG just hit a 3 run bomb. THE HOTNESS takes no prisoners…! (in spring training)
Watch out Dougie, your big fat .202 batting average is on notice.
My drooling for Jacoby and George is just that. Plus, he’s as cute if not cuter than the two of them combined. He’s THE HOTNESS in his own right, I lucked out.
The Red Sox need Kottaras to keep hitting like this.
Random note: Lee Gronkiewicz on the mound. He’s the Sox minor league pitcher BP projects to have the best MLB numbers this season.
No more ‘Wicz-es’, I can’t spell them.
my girl fawns on kyle snider, and i just don’t get it. i couldn’t be further away on the “style of dudes” chart from that guy.
Kyle Snyder, hmmm… not seeing it. Must be an acquired taste.
Of course, Gronkiewicz gets shelled. Nice win though, as meaningless games go. Good to see Crisp and Kottaras hitting against actual big-leagueish pitchers.
Kottaras is doing his damndest to makes us strongly reconsider Dougie. After all Georgie hit the bomb tonight!
Honestly, I think it might be a good idea. So long as George can catch the knuckler (I hope he gets at least two spring training starts catchign wake.. just to see) his offense HAS to be an improvement over Doug.
my girl fawns on kyle snider
My ex was in love with Timlin, and my current has a huge crush on Beckett, especially after his performance in October. Her mom likes Varitek.
No Yankees gamer? Pfft.
Shelley crushes one for a three-run homerun. Quick 1-2-3 inning for Wang.
No Yanks gamer?? I wanted to write “Shelley!” but I’m guessing I’m outta luck.
No Sox gamer either…Lester and strike-throwing don’t seem to mix.
Yikes, that’s definitely the Lester I remember. Hopefully he’s saved some suckitude for the regular season.
Oh, I wouldn’t worry, Andrew. Dude has never thrown strikes consistently.
Just got in fellas, if you want a gamer (late of course) let me know I will put one up for both sides.
Lester sucked (2 hits, 4 walks, 5 runs–4 earned), but the offense pitched in and the Sox came out on top 7-6. One more victory to Mayor’s Cup!
