Friday Night Lights: O’s-Yanks Gamer I

Baseball on a crisp spring eve. What could be better? (The same, of course, plus a victory for our Bombers.) The peregrinating Pinstripers return tonight for the first in a series with the Birds of Baltimore. Bob Sheppard, the wonderful ageless wonder, will be back in his announcer’s chair, and we hope this is a sign of good things to come. On the hill will be Chien-Ming Wang, workmanlike in his last start, and ex-Met Kris Benson, who stifled our boys but good last year while playing for the crosstown rivals. We can only hope the departure of a certain someone has cost him his mojo. We’ll find out. Consider this your open thread for comment on all the action.

  • And Roberts out on the first pitch. How about 26 more of those….

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:10 pm
  • And our first look at Makakis. We’ll probably be seeing a lot of this guy over the next decade, so get your scouting books ready.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:12 pm
  • Two down! Another grounder. Tiger burning bright.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:12 pm
  • And Melvin Mora dribbles one out to The Captain. First inning done on 7 pitches. Doesn’t get much better than that.
(PS: Yes, that was ANDY PHILLIPS AT FIRST BASE!!!)

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:14 pm
  • 1-2-3 for Wang, 1-2-3 for Burnett.

  • And finally one in the air. 6 up, 6 down.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • Wang looking good so far. Picking up where he left off his last start.

    whatever April 21, 2006, 7:28 pm
  • Benson looking professional. Moving the ball around. Staying around the strike zone, or not far off it. Changing speeds. Working quickly. Nice to watch.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:30 pm
  • Burnett throwing smoke. Manny K’s.

    whatever April 21, 2006, 7:30 pm

    NickYF April 21, 2006, 7:31 pm
  • Matsui w/ the one out walk.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:31 pm
  • Any chance Matsui offers Anna Benson a quick peek at his porn collection?

    SF April 21, 2006, 7:34 pm
  • Amazing that Cano has not walked (though he did get robbed on two 3 ball calls, so he should have 2).

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:35 pm
  • But that was bad. Swinging at junk way out of the zone. Benson’s no dummy, except maybe in the matrimonial department.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:36 pm
  • Willie Harris sighting in Toronto!

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:38 pm
  • And Wang draws another grounder, 5-3. That’s #6.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:39 pm
  • Ugh. But Millar nails a double to center off a pitch right down the middle.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:39 pm
  • Hmmm…Death valley saved us on that one…

    whatever April 21, 2006, 7:40 pm

  • Ground out #7 (of 8). 2 down.

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:41 pm
  • Wang suddenly has lost his control. Time to beardown. 2 on.

    whatever April 21, 2006, 7:44 pm
  • There are more comments regarding the Sox/Jays in this thread than there are comments regarding Yanks/O’s in the other one. Offered without comment.

    SF April 21, 2006, 7:44 pm
  • Wang up in the zone the last couple. Could be trouble. And here comes the Gator. Mechanical issue?

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:44 pm
  • 1-2-3 for Beckett. 0-0 in Toronto. Top 3rd.

    whatever April 21, 2006, 7:45 pm

  • Flirting with real trouble here.

    whatever April 21, 2006, 7:46 pm

    YF April 21, 2006, 7:49 pm

  • what was the bad call. I’m again not watching

    NickYF April 21, 2006, 7:54 pm
  • Hey YF, whatta think? Should I shitcan the Sox comments? Thought someone might want to know what’s going on with our two big AL East rivals.

    whatever April 21, 2006, 7:55 pm
  • Nick, Jeter fielded a slow grounder on the run and had to throw across his body resulting in a high throw to first that Phillips jumped for, and looked like he got his foot back down on the bag, but the runner was called safe. Meanwhile, Wang didn’t cover home on the play, and another run scored, all the way from second. On an infield hit no less.

    whatever April 21, 2006, 7:59 pm
  • 2 on, c’mon Alex!

    whatever April 21, 2006, 8:02 pm

  • Greetings and salutations.
Woohoo! Cano! What a time to join the thread.
Hey YF, I emailed the address you asked me to earlier. Did you receive it, and the follow up?
I re-wrote the scripts. I can now generated .ics for any team in about 5 seconds based on the .csv files that MLB posted for each team.

    attackgerbil April 21, 2006, 8:24 pm
