Get Down Tonight: KC-Yanks Gamer V

Chien-Ming Wang improved to a team-best 12 victories with his six-inning, three-run performance last week in Baltimore; the week before, he pitched seven innings, allowing four runs for a win at KC.  He’s back on the bump tonight looking for three in a row as Odalis Perez, who beat Texas in his last outing but gave up four runs in seven innings in his previous outing, against the Yanks.

There’s a bit of juggling in the line-up, with Abreu and Posada getting the night off; Duncan is in right field.  Lineups follow.  Do a little dance and comment away.  Let’s-Go-A-Rod.

  • Wang with a 1-2-3 inning, 10 pitches. Perez nearly matches that in 14 pitches, sandwiching a Melky double that the Yanks do not take advantage of.

  • Wow, everyone but me must have a social life. Just got off work, and came in to see Wang on the mound in the top of the eighth. He gives up a double to lead off the inning and Joe comes out to get him, but what a nice performance. 1 run, seven hits in seven innings.

  • up in Yonkers NY. There is a classic thunderstorm going on right now. It’s likely to hit the stadium soon. Pretty impressive!

  • Myers comes on to face German, and gets the K. Now Vizcaino is on to face Butler.

  • Teahen walks.
Gordong breaks his bat and hits a grounder towards the right side hole, but Andy Phillips follows up Cano’s slick glove work with a nice diving grab of his own and a flip to Vizcaino that ends the KC eighth.

  • Damon gets on base to lead off the Yankee eighth on a hard grounder outside of German that the third basemen throws a bit up the line, drawing Gordon off the bag for an E5, though it could have been a hit.
Now Melky lines a single to right and pushes Johnny to second.

  • Woops.. Molina grounded out to lead off the eighth; one away when Damon reached.

  • Jeter grounds to Grudzy who flips to second for one; Pena throws it over Gordon which brings Damon home and Jeter advances to second.
ARod up; he lines the first pitch 10 feet short of the track to end the eighth.

  • Rivera on to work the ninth. Rain is falling. Smith pinch hits for Buck, and is down on three pitches, the first two swinging, the next taken on the outside corner.
Pena takes two balls, then takes a strike. The next pitch is a strike swinging. The 2-2 is fouled; the next 2-2 is a fly-out to center.
Rain is really coming down now. Gathright fouls off a pitch, then grounds out 3-1 to end the game. Nice work from Mo.
Ball game, Yankees 7, KC 1.
